Honestly, to me it seems like the volus originated with someone saying "Wouldnt it be awesome if there were volus in MP?!" while drunk, and then the MP devs just ran with it and churned out volus characters before anyone sobered up.
I agree, except for the part where they only needed alcohol to get to that point.
I'd explain all the reasons volus is a lore breaker for the people that don't think so, but honestly, I've done it a hundred times in the past few days in the MP forum. Just sick of it right now. Quickest and to the point part: Volus have been denied a seat on the Council for 2,700 years because they can't provide quality ground troops. If they could do it, they would have long before now.
Well no duh, overall they don't even remotely hold a candle (as any standing army) compared to the turians, asari, salarians, and humans. Or even batarians and quarians. Or even the remaining krogan if they all banded together.
But that doesn't actually provide a good argument, imo at least, that individual volus can't be very effective to a team of ops in a more support capacity. When you look, you see that volus have very low defenses (so they need to stick with group, to... defend them, just like the volus race themselves with armies), BUT they have amazing support abilities, basically making many of them little medics.
Seeing 2-3 other players be volus in a team, yeah is ridiculous lore-wise, but I don't really see it as some great offence if there is one very special Adept or Engineer (maybe Vanguard though...

haha) that boosts up the rest of the team's capability. The turians can't defend them anymore, with this war, so I'm not actually surprised that a select few actually took the invasion seriously and trained themselves to their best ability, even if that doesn't, in-lore reach up to the abilities of other races.
So yes, its a joke, but one I can actually go along with in good humor and interest.
But I need to respect your decision from here on, sorry about sounding agressive about this. I think seeing that people shun ITers in MP, and then seeing someone in an IT thread saying they'd avoid players who play a class that doesn't fit with their idea of the lore, got to me.
