No, I mean volus are an ultra rare.  Literally.  It's a black N7 card.  So hopefully they won't be as widespread as I feared.  Because honestly, I simply can't play with them.  If there's a volus on the team, I'm finding a new team.  They DESTROY immersion for me.

Quarians appearing while I had them wiped out in a RacistShep playthrough destroys my immersion too.
And 3 batarians working alongside humans like they're 'equal'.
And asari all having the same face.

Oh well.

I dont think they are ACTUALLY ultra-rare. I got one in my very first pack and they've been in about half of the games I've played.

A Volus is not supposed to fight the enemies straight up, there abilities are mostly support. Especially that shield recharge is very powerful when combined with the Damage reduction at the end of the tree and makes you able to keep your entire team up though some serius fire.

It takes some skill and coordination though to make the Volus work, you cant run lone wolf and your team should know that as well so they dont leave you in a bad spot (yay for cloak though).

I've seen a volus in every mp game I've played today and so far only 4 and they were 4 separate accounts.

We're playing the best of the best. Turns out a small handful of volus, in a galaxy of many billions, are some of the best. Obviously, they're nowhere near the numbers that exist of Turians, Asari, Humans, Salarians, and so on, but those races are being decimated before our eyes (well not Salarians yet but... that's another subject), and I'm sure recruitment is open for ANYONE who can prove themselves in this 'VR Sim'.

The thing is, I doubt even the best of the best of the volus could fight anywhere on the same level as even the most average of humans. Yet there they are in MP doing it. Not only that, but they can run, which due to the bulk of their suits and the atmospheres of pressure inside, shouldnt really be possible.

I really don't agree here. While 90+% of volus are like this, I'm sure there's a minority that has amps and armored suits up the wazoo for personal protection, and a minority of those are actually able to use them effectively.

Are we gonna see some superpowered Volus class? Nah. It's enough that some have high biotic and tech ability. But they're clearly not able to do some things, like take cover properly, or do a real heavy melee.

The running/dodging is just being picky imo. It's a bit immersion breaking but most of how MP works IS (waves of seemingly VR enemies? is this a war against the Reapers or an arena match?).

The dodging thing isnt being picky. Turians and Krogan are too bulky to dodge. Volus should be too.

And while I agree there may be some volus who can fight, you'll never convince me there are volus good enough to be dropped in with special ops teams.

Exactly. Volus are clearly support, that require having allies actually do some of the heavy lifting, in order to be effective.

I'm sure if elcor arrived, they'd be more 'tank' and hanar would be a 'lone wolf strangling enemies in the background'.

I think the point is that all the races have some strength they can bring to a battlefield (even if it is very limited, as it would be with volus), but it is only the massive threat of the Reapers that encourages this.

This is a VERY good thing, and its part of how this cycle WILL be able to throw off the Reapers, once and for all. We're not some huge empire with servant races that topple super quickly - we're a united galaxy that takes in all that can help, and they WILL help. Even these handfuls of volus that see their homeworlds succumb.

I think all races have someone 'good enough'. All.

But would elcor, hanar, and volus have very limited use outside of a VR Sim? Absolutely. But billions are dying and just like C-Sec needed humans to fill in the holes, the fall of capital planets requires anyone and everyone apply (and for some races, very rarely get in).

As for dodging, they're a rolling ball, not 'bulky'. I don't like it, but I can dig it.

Honestly, to me it seems like the volus originated with someone saying "Wouldnt it be awesome if there were volus in MP?!" while drunk, and then the MP devs just ran with it and churned out volus characters before anyone sobered up.

I agree, except for the part where they only needed alcohol to get to that point.

I'd explain all the reasons volus is a lore breaker for the people that don't think so, but honestly, I've done it a hundred times in the past few days in the MP forum.  Just sick of it right now.  Quickest and to the point part: Volus have been denied a seat on the Council for 2,700 years because they can't provide quality ground troops.  If they could do it, they would have long before now.

Well no duh, overall they don't even remotely hold a candle (as any standing army) compared to the turians, asari, salarians, and humans. Or even batarians and quarians. Or even the remaining krogan if they all banded together.

But that doesn't actually provide a good argument, imo at least, that individual volus can't be very effective to a team of ops in a more support capacity. When you look, you see that volus have very low defenses (so they need to stick with group, to... defend them, just like the volus race themselves with armies), BUT they have amazing support abilities, basically making many of them little medics.

Seeing 2-3 other players be volus in a team, yeah is ridiculous lore-wise, but I don't really see it as some great offence if there is one very special Adept or Engineer (maybe Vanguard though... haha) that boosts up the rest of the team's capability. The turians can't defend them anymore, with this war, so I'm not actually surprised that a select few actually took the invasion seriously and trained themselves to their best ability, even if that doesn't, in-lore reach up to the abilities of other races.

So yes, its a joke, but one I can actually go along with in good humor and interest.

But I need to respect your decision from here on, sorry about sounding agressive about this. I think seeing that people shun ITers in MP, and then seeing someone in an IT thread saying they'd avoid players who play a class that doesn't fit with their idea of the lore, got to me.

/sigh

Still having disconnection issues. Just got one during Extraction. Thanks, BT. I'll be glad when I'm rid of your terrible service next week.

In other news, the new weather features really make maps more interesting. Firebase Dagger during a storm is really eery, especially with Collector enemies. And damn are those Scions hard to kill, even on Bronze!

so it was too gamebreaking to add Harbinger's voice into the game, but it was fine to add volus as playable characters. Maybe IT is giving these people too much credit.

TBH I can headcanon around that.

Harbinger:
-doesn't see normal ground troops as worthy of his direct intervention, or his speech
-he sees special ops (MP) as worthy of his direct intervention, but not his speech
-he sees human colonists worthy of Ascension, his direct intervention, and his speech
-he sees Shepard's henchmen worthy of his direct intervention, and his speech
-he sees Shepard himself, worthy of Ascension, his direct intervention, obsession, and direct references in his speech

Arrogant SOB. Always have to 'prove' something to him, and the reward is turning into a genetic slurpee.

Its very true that these could just be a standard ad overlay as you said but i have only seen it with the symbol of earth and of the citadel... each has the light beam running through the middle .. top to bottom...

now... if you were to find another sign with the light beam that had no picture of the citadel or earth i would be 100% convinced this was bs... but i cant find one anywhere... so im inclined to believe it as a representation of the crucibles energy beam... seeing as the line is drawn on and over the sign and not behind it...

i'll continue to believe this myself.. but if your upto it i challenge you to prove me wrong lol
good luck on your mission cadets....

I understand that but they're still walking dangers to themselves.

Which is why the Quarians more typically avoid ground battles at almost any cost. The groups we see in ME2 are veryyyy select military, and ME3 was a very unique situation for them.

And that's really what I'm getting at here. I can accept volus directly joining the war, because fighting the Reapers is a VERY VERY unique situation for this galaxy's cycle. They'll take any effective fighter they can get, and yes, I think probability allows for a small minority of volus actually being effective enough, in a more support capacity in battle.

I cant make fun of the MP team, who works separately from the SP team and believe in IT?

Or I cant say that if meant to be taken literally, the endings are stupid?

Because IT doesnt stop me from doing either. I of course DONT think the endings were meant to be taken literally, but if it turns out they were, then they are extremely stupid.
