Watching my boyfriend play through the series (he's now doing loyalty missions before the Reaper IFF point of no return in ME2)...

I really don't think the ending is to be taken literally at all. The hints are bloody everywhere. In ME1 to an extent, but especially in ME2.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware discussed having their own new flavor of 'Revan twist', years before ME3 came out, and when they were greenlighted for ME2 (when finished ME2, they were already writing and starting development for ME3).

God. I would've thought this would be the one thread where I wouldn't see ridiculous volus defending. This whole theory is based around having paid attention to lore and realism.

General non-IT-or-BSN reaction to Volus, from Youtube:

"I feel like I should relinquish my testicles after this but OH MY GOD HE HAS TO STAND ON A BOX IN THE APPEARANCE CUSTOMIZATION SCREEN THAT IS SO ****ING ADORABLE AW!!"

"It is a great (breath) day for volus people!"

"I...I thought it was a joke"

"Wow, they are *unbelieveably* fragile. Good on BW for making that realistic and believeable at least. Looks interesting though, and thanks for uploading!"

"So godlike. I am crying right now."

"I just scored first place in a public silver game with the other players playing turians and vorcha. He is not ultra-durable but he has alot of great utility powers and is a great teamplayer."

"I'm sorry, but this is the stupidest form of fanservice I've seen in Mass Effect yet. Volus don't fight. They just don't. They hire turians to do the fighting for them. It's in the Codex, for ****'s sake."

Actually IT involves an adaptable lore, that shows, from ME1 onward (ME2, DLC, books, comics, ME3, DLC) that many layers of lore can create unforseen events, which in hindsight make sense. 'Realism' isn't really part of it.

Not really a defense of volus here, but I saw IT as more that. I don't think they planned from ME1 to have Shepard indoctrinated, but it could have been a possible story thread out of a longer list.

They won't give a paid dlc to fix the problems with their ending. But they'll give people who just want to make a joke out of the mass effect series a bunch of volus for free. I've lost all hope in Bioware today. The only thing that could make up for this atrocity is if Harbinger is the main character of the omega dlc.

I had to search hard on the comments to find a negative one, but they are there.

And I get the arguments against them, but I guess I'm just more broadminded (for better or worse?) about lore and its placement in an IP, is all.

He probably is, in a way.

Black Arks.
Omega.
Possible Crucible information.
Cerberus and possible TIM information.
Harbinger.
Collectors.

It'll be ok.

At least it further adds to the theory that MP is actually happening in-universe as a VR Simulation.

Though quite how useful it would be to train with Volus, I have no ide.

Retaliation's still not out for PS3 yet :(

SHH you Control lover!

Harbinger is the only true Reaper! The rest are all indoctrinated automatons, who don't even realize they are :)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Again, they're more in a support role. Sure they can jog for a bit and handle a gun (even hanar could hold guns in their own way..), but so many of their abilities are oriented towards assisting the group they're travelling with.

It's clear that a volus on his own is an easy baloon to pop. A volus with an elite guard of 3 protectors? He makes them all better and more capable.

QFT.  This is just unbelievable.

Oh well.  Saved me a bunch of money I guess.  I was going to put a deposit down on one of these.  But then I thought, "nah, better wait and make sure this volus thing isn't real.  Hate to spend all that and then not be able to take Mass Effect seriously anymore."

Well, we know for a fact that Bioware was going with indoctrination up until November 2011 because of Final Hours. Volus in MP is disheartening but I wouldn't lose faith yet.

I like how a race that can't finish a sentence without needing to stop and catch its breath can outrun a banshee.  Stevie from Malcom in the Middle being amongst the most elite warriors in the galaxy makes perfect sense because it's A Support Role™.

Yeah, this feels like you're massively overreacting.

But I guess if this ruins Mass Effect for you, have at it.

Yeah, I wouldn't take them seriously at all.

But hey. I don't have to play one. Krogan Sentinel FTW.

There is still good in him. Leave Harbinger alone. He's just a Reaper. He has ideas. Posted Image

Ideas! Wonderful ideas!

Too bad that was screwed up the instant it developed a solution for the Leviathans, and any hope was lost when it became an arrogant Leviathan-Reaper!

Again, my own theory and I'm stickin to it! ;)

Control is probably possible, but don't listen to a Reaper Ghost Child to obtain it.

Have you read my other posts? I'm one of the biggest game lore buffs around, to the point where I even annoy myself with it.

EDIT: Oh this thread is hilarious. Just the things people are saying. I love this forum, even when I hate it. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/343/index/14424333

Codex entry says the volus provide auxiliary troops to the Hierarchy, how about that lore?

The four characters today are the turian Havoc soldier, turian Ghost infiltrator, volus adept, and volus engineer.

Boom. Checkmate. I actually even forgot this detail.

The volus just could never, ever, manage a proper military on their own. Doesn't mean those with certain expertise can't fight in a small group.

Yes, the running and other stuff are details that are only included for gameplay reasons, but lore-wise, yes, volus 'can' fight. Just most suck at it.
