The best ending to any game ever. Of all time.
Already the soundtrack makes this ending great. "Suicide Mission", one of the best tracks of the trilogy.
Everyone thinks it's "Suicide Mission", but it's actually "The End Run".
"Suicide Mission" plays on the floating platforms while travelling to the Proto-Reaper, which is also really epic!
Both so good. If the Suicide Mission track played during high EMS Destroy instead of that God-awful, depressing piano music it might almost make it bearable.
Almost.

I literally just tried that
That said, "And End, Once And For All" is another one of my favourites, though I like the original better than the EC version.

I think even a quick cutscene of Shepard being turned into a husk post synthesis and Garrus having to shoot him and then just dropping his rifle, heart broken, would have been powerful. Everything just falls apart and the crucible is destroyed.
Or an indoctrinated Shepard getting picked up then wreaking havoc. I have this image in my head of Shepard ordering joker to get close to the where the crucible docked, then walking into engineering, shooting everyone as Tali slowly raises her hands like "Shepard, what-" as he drops her too, before overloading the core and obliterating the Normandy and damaging the crucible beyond functioning.
Not that Arians script doesn't blow this idea away.
Indoctrinated Shepard probably would not go about shooting the Normandy crew. Reason why Harbinger didn't shoot down the Normandy was because an indoctrinated Shepard will need the Normandy and it's crew. Hopefully for the reapers once they have Shepard than can use him to indoctrinate the rest of the crew. If Shepard and friends can unite the galaxy imagine how much damage they can do working for the reapers.
How do we know that is what would happen? The reapers already showed us their evil plan:

Maybe the trauma of the endings has given me an aversion to it. I might have liked it in another context. Right now it just evokes glum bewilderment.

Since the majority of "the end run" is also the last part of suicide mission..i would not really differentiate between those tracks. Suicide mission starts playing once you launch the suicide mission (passing omega 4 relay) and is then played during different parts of the whole mission. But it is definitely one of the most epc tracks out there. Not only for games...
For the through the relay part, you're thinking of "Jump Drive" and "Crash Landing". The first plays when going through the relay, and the second when clearing the debis field, destroying the Black Ark, and, well, crash landing
They're all very much different tracks, even Suicide Mission and The End Run, but they use the same theme. And consistent musical themes are very important, and something Mass Effect has always been good at.

I can relate. When the music starts picking up (Joker evacuating) I can't even watch or listen to it, because that's when the sequence takes a turn for the worse.Eryri wrote...

Dont the notes scribbled on that page about the endings say they were supposed to feel victorious and uplifting?
The music in the end is neither victorious nor uplifting. It is sad and depressing, and while it is good music, is completely out of place in the ending sequence.

What i mean is..right before you fly through the relay, when everybody is shown on their posts (jacob saying the drive core just lit up like a christmas tree and so on) "suicide mission" starts playing. It stops once you actually pass through the relay. Then at some point it starts up again..this pattern repeats. That"s why everybody associates "suicide mission" with the suicide mission. Since it is the longest track and includes most of the other tracks played during the mission.

Does that refer to the original pre-EC endings without the Destroy epilogue? How odd. You're right the music is completely inappropriate if that's what they were trying to convey. Either someone in the music department didn't see the memo, or those are not the endings. Fingers crossed for the latter.

the results for the eigth poll are out. The list has been updated and I would like to encourage you to participate at the ninth poll and my long-time survey about your choice at your first playthrough. Spread the word!
I also made another survey on a totally unrelated topic that still needs to be resolved.
And please think about a way to incorporate Anderson's behaviour in London and the datapad hinting that the beam is a huge con into one of the IT's Top Ten points. I'd also appreciate it, if you could provide me with links.

Oh right, I forgot it did that. I'm pretty sure that actually is part of the Suicide Mission track there, just like the very beginning of it loops when Shep gives his speech.

Yes. The game's story is immersive and unforgettable. It was released back in 1996 or 1997 so I'm not sure if you can find it anywhere. But if you can, it's totally worth every second spent playing it.estebanus wrote...
