Well, maybe the little decisions like the Rachni, who basically say they'll save you at the end, and other things like what's been mentioned in the last few pages, and more, will ultimately end up having a big impact. Hopefully, Bioware delivers
"and when the time comes we will add our voices to yours" - Rachni Queen.
I know I must be sounding like a broken record, but Rachni Queen is my greatest disaointment and hope in many ways. Here is even an idea for how a scene where the Rahcni Queen saves Shepard could play out.
Shepard is lying in the rubble only half awake when suddenly the Rahcni Queen appears above him, looking down at him.
Shepard losses counscous again, ending up in the forest from the dreams. The kid is standing there with his arm stretched out waiting for Shepard and Shepard walks towards it. But slowly a hum starts to sound, rising until it becomes a melody, vivid colors washing through the grey forest, obscuring the kid and the melody rising to a pitch just as Shepard just as he wakes up.
At first Shepard is confused, but looking around the Shepard sees his the Rachni Queen squad, some watching him and others shooting at what we presume is Reaper forces. As Shepard regains focus we see that Rachni are holding of a tide of Reaper troops advancing on the position and just as Shepard staggers to his feet a Ravager takes a shot at him.
The Rachni Queen intervenes saving Shepard even as she falls over, mortally wounded. At the same time we hear a shriek from the other Rachni and they run wild charging the Reaper forces and riving them off.
Perhaps a few last words from the Rachni Queen, quickly laying down what happened in his mind before dying, Shepard looking at it with a sad expression before beeing extracted along with the squad.
That could be a beatiful and sad sequence. The death of the Queen or even the entire sequence playing could be based on your decision in the chamber, the Destroy choice not playing it or killing the Queen as Shepard breaks free himself.
But if played, the fact that the player would know that his wrong decision cost the Queen her life would be harsh, even more so knowing that she saved Shepard from a fate worse than death. And there would be a certain beauty to the Rachni Queen who Shepard saved against all advice, dying to save him.
Maybe a bit too elaborate a sequence for something which many might never see, but hey I can dream...plus I really want to hear the Rachni Song, even more so "see" it as they see it and that could happen in uncounscious Shepards mind.
Even if we dont get something like this in ME3 I hope saving the Queen and by extension the Rachni is a cannon choice for ME4. Sci-Fi really needs more friendly, hive mind, bugs
