I've been lurking in this thread as well as the previous IT thread for 6 months.  I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy all the discussion.  Its my hope that BowarEA is attempting to pull off the greatest storyline in gaming history by giving us little pieces of the IT puzzle slowly.  I don't think they anticipated so many of us "getting it" from the beginning.  Of course this could just be wishful thinking on my part... Either way Mass Effect is my favorite gaming IP of all time.  :D

It's probably a safe bet to say it's everyone here's favorite IP!

That is one of the Silence/Silents from Doctor Who behind him.

You completely forget they have ever existed when you look away from them, though you will subconsciously remember what they told you and thus can be influenced to do what they want.

could be a foreahadowing of the keepers because they're pretty forgettable. While they don't really speak they are supposed to do what the reapers want. Plus we're supposed to be on a dlc with the citadel...supposed to...

Not sure it relates yet but noticed an article while I was looking at the city:

Here's the motto from the city. Coincidental connection?

Motto: "Y ddraig goch ddyry cychwyn"
("The red dragon will lead the way")

(what's red that we've been talking about that leads to the breath scene?)

So last night I learned how Jack Harper became The Illusive Man. Read the graphic novel (or comic book) called Mass Effect: Evolution. Now I know for sure not to pick control or synthesis. Anyone who comes into contact with the Arca Monolith basically gets indoctrinated. Although if I remember, his friend got the most of it, turning him into a husk. TIM's eyes did turn from regular human eyes into indoctrinated ones by the end.

You know, I've officially figured out my thoughts on the endings.  I'll be okay if they confirm that IT is only a valid interpretation rather than what they intended.  I'll be VERY okay if they confirm that IT was their intention and they say that they'll do more with it.  I will NOT be okay if they say that IT was their intention, but they're not going to do anything with it.  In the case of the first, IT will remain headcanon, and that's the end of it.  If it's the second, we'll see what Shepard proceeds to do.  If it's the third, it's actually worse than the original endings because if IT is canon, but they don't show us what happens next, then the Reapers are still out there, and we don't know what happened to Shepard.  At least in the originals we knew that the Reapers were defeated.

Trust me. I did a full playthrough of the series. Based on all the evidence I found, the ending is an indoctrination attempt by the Reapers. It's not meant to be anything else. Although that's not really considered "official" though. They'd rather provide the clues and have us figure it out. You know, engage the audience, instead of tell us everything single detail through the use of some DLC content. Bioware's games are known for their "attention to detail". By that I mean how they basically scattered all these clues throughout the series and have us put the pieces together.

Looked up the lyrics on "Inhale".

Come one and all and see the broken man, talking to himselfHe sits and waits for something better, he'll never find it hereThe people touch his hair and pinch his cheek; he can't even feel itThere it goes again, he's listening to someoneHe hears the bitter laughterAnd all he wants to know is...
Why------ does any of it matter? (I can't take it anymore)You've gotta try------ the inhale that makes the exhale so much better
He wipes his hands on anything in reach, he never feels clean He shakes at night because his nerve is gone, every muscle hurts Come one and all and see what happened...that broken man is me
There it goes again, I can hear it louderIt doesn't feel good anymoreAll I want to know is...
Why------ does any of it matter? (I can't take it anymore)You've gotta try------ the inhale that makes the exhale so much better
NOW I KNOW I DISAPPEAR!I CAN'T FIND MY WAY FROM OUT OF HERE!EVERYTHING IS FADING ON ME!SOMEONE TELL ME... someone tell me...Someone - tell me
Why------ does any of it matter? (I can't take it anymore)You've gotta try------ the inhale that makes the exhale so much better
WHY?! YOU'VE GOTTA TRY!!

I'm having a field day with this Cardiff stuff and trying to find something that someone might intrerpret related to IT. So I went with the motto of the city and noticed after the last HMS Cardiff was decommissioned another called Dragon would take it's place. It has a stealth system:
Stealth featuresThe most distinctive design point of the Daring[/i]class is their sleekly designed straight edges and superstructure free from clutter. This is designed to give the ship a low radar cross section - commonly called stealth features. Speculation by the press suggests that this design gives the ship the radar signature of afishing boat.[15]

reminds me of the Normandy

So; my playthrough is now taking me through ME2. And Joker said something that made me wonder: "Cerberus is about a three-headed dog, the guardian of hell and yet there's only one guy running it". Since TIM is indoctrinated and 'Cerberus is an idea'; possibly related to the three choices we make?

Actually, i believe they are named Cerberus because Cerberus was the guard dog of the gates of Hades, who the Romans calledPluto, which is the planetoid that the Charon Relay, the gateway to the galaxy, orbited. So basically it's them saying they are the guardians of Earth/humanity to make sure no threat passes through the gate.

which way?  Threat from Earth to the galaxy or treat from the galaxy to Earth?  Plus Charon was the ferryman taking people from the living to the dead

Oh  interesting. Remember how we have to pass through the Charon Relay to do Priority Earth?

"Haros" is the modern Greek equivalent of Charon, and usage includes the curse "you will be eaten (i.e. taken) by Haros", or "I was in the teeth of Haros" (i.e. " I was near death/very sick/badly injured.")

Since they're pro-human, they mean threats towards humanity from the galaxy, and in this case Charon is a relay so fits the description of gate more than ferryman, though Charon guided people through the gate so it can be both here. Intersting with the Haros refernce though.

Cerberus's job was also to keep the people already in Hades from leaving.

That is true, and the Cerberus in ME wants to keep humanity away from the rest of the galaxy, the races I mean, so it can fit too.

Does anyone know why the other VI is called vendetta?  For vigil. The overall description fits. But for Vendetta I wonder if it was meant for the Protheans and indoctrinated Protheans instead of Prothean/reaper?

And here's my London (UK?) relevant article.

"British forces have denied rumours that they released a plague of ferocious badgers into the Iraqi city of Basra.
Word spread among the populace that UK troops had introduced strange man-eating, bear-like beasts into the area to sow panic.
But several of the creatures, caught and killed by local farmers, have been identified by experts as honey badgers."

... Sorry, I'll stop now.

Yes, you are correct. Most of our solar system is named after the Roman gods. Rome and Greece had the same gods but called them by different names. People tended to know those gods by their Roman names until they started naming planets after them, then the gods that got a planet named after them tended to be called by their Greek names instead to differentiate between planet and ancient deity. Charon is a real moon of Pluto, and the story in Mass Effect is that when we got there we discovered that "moon" was a mass relay encased in ice. When it was understood that it was a transportation device and it connected us to alien civilizations, Jack Harper (later known as The Illusive Man) spread some pro-human anti-alien propaganda. One of his most famous lines was a play on the Greek mythology angle: "We need a Cerberus for the Charon relay." That's how Cerberus got its name.

No, we don't know. It's a common theory that there's something wrong with Vendetta. Either the original Prothean he was designed from was indoctrinated, or the Reapers had already tampered with him, or something. The thing that really makes me doubt him is that the temple in Thessia has one of the strongest "ringing sound" (symptom of indoctrination) in the game.
