Anyway, what was everyone's concensus on that bit of Reaper noise that I believe Doomsday found, that sounds like "The Child Lies" at the start of the beam run? Do we thing it's just paredolia, or does it mean anything?

I don't understand why a Reaper would say " The Child Lies". Totally support Harbinger, made of Leviathans, saying " Serve us" though.

Neither do I. It really doesn't make sense to me, but I have to admit It does sound uncannily like human speech. However I read what it was supposed to sound like before hearing it which is always fatal. Afterwards you can never hear anything else but what you expect.

Maybe it's another 4th wall breaking message from Bioware? Or maybe the theory that the goop inside a reaper is still in a state of horrible awareness is correct, and they're trying to save Shapard from their own fate?

State of Mind including how much you paid attention during ME3 and even ME2. ME1 isn't really as relevant here beyond understanding all the details of indoctrination that were constantly given in game which sets up ME3 perfectly.

There is defintely a wrong answer and ME2 proves it by the sheer fact that saving the base sets you up for disaster right out of the gate. Can you even have a best outcome destroy if you saved the base in ME2? I don't know. Never saved the base. Hated Tim. Didn't trust him. Would never let him have that technology by choice. And this is only two choices. Destroy. Do not Destroy. ME3 used themes from the entire series - geth/quarians/control and salarians/krogans/synthes (which I refer to as DNA Meddling).

Oh and let's not forget Destroy from ME2 Heretic station. If you don't destroy it that can really screw you in ME3 if you try to save the quarians/geth. So that's another example of not choosing destroy in ME2. Both rather relevant.

You ARE given the answer. Even if you don't realize it and choose the wrong answer, you discover the ramification in which case "those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

That's not quite as black and white as the Collector base. What the virus does is change them back to how they were before the Reapers altered them. Put another way: You unindoctrinate them. It's not brainwashing, it's undoing the brainwashing that had already taken place.

The other consequence is more Geth alive and more Quarians dead in ME3 (vs the othe way around), which for me is another plus, as if I had to choose, I'd choose the Geth everytime.

@Banshee - I don't see how your comment says anything other than "You're wrong and I'm right.  Sorry".  I post in this forum to get away from that kind of crap.

That's probably because that's pretty much how I intended it to sound. And nothing you say will ever convince me otherwise.

Not trying to make enemies here, but I had to say it.

Well you didn't really though.  I can't be bothered with an argument, post whatever response you want, or don't post anything, I don't care.  But if you post stuff like that then you will make enemies.  And you already know that.  The thing is, you're happy to infer that someone's an idiot if it makes your point.

I wasn't trying to "convince you otherwise".  I was saying I think it's good.  I already stated that virtually no-one else does.  But yeah, you wanna claim that intelligent and reasonable people hate the ME3 ending as a logical deduction, and thereby infer that I'm neither?  10/10, you did it.  Well done.

Actually, I am not trying to say you're not intelligent or reasonable, because one stupid mistake doesn't make a smart person stupid. I'm just saying that I can't fathom how the literal ending could ever be seen as good. It breaks so many narrative and gameplay elements it is absurd. However, I envy your ability to do that to a degree, even if it makes no sense to me. Does that make sense to you?

Davik doesn't believe literal. More of a deception/IT hybrid where choosing destroy is actually activating the crucible.

That group you speak of it few and far between. It's an overwhelming minority. Mostly because of IT and other personal interpretations. There is almost no one who like the face value endings.

Shepard: "How exactly does the Reaper artifact give you proof of the impending invasion?"
Dr. Kenson: "It showed me visions of the Reapers' arrival. Much like your prothean beacon I imagine."
Dr. Kenson: "The Reapers are coming Commander. That much I know for certain."

Endings aren't meant to be taken at face value. Count on it. But how much is real and unreal? That's the question.

Some say it's grasping at straws but I do hear serve us, and it's funny because it's not the first time Harbinger says it.

To me it sounds like "Xanatos", which is an alternate spelling of Thanatos, the Ancient Greek name for Death.  I agree that it's probably nothing, but they might've chosen it to sound like this just to give it a cool "Die!" vibe.

Perhaps, but it certainly doesn't feel like that a lot of the time on BSN.  It's certainly a lot easier to hate on something that to praise it.

Yeah I guess that does make sense.  Still seems like an attack but not to the extent that I had assumed.  I'm making something out of nothing I guess (it does seem to be my most prevalent character trait on these forums...)

I kind of have the opposite problem.  I can't seem to play Mass Effect anymore because I don't know if I should like the endings or not.  If IT is true, they're frakking brilliant.  If it's not, then I'm disappointed.  BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHICH ONE I SHOULD BE!!!!

I'm still astounded that people say 'if IT is true' because when you play the game and pay attention, all the evidence is there to support that IT IS TRUE. People who don't see it are just not able to for any of a myriad of reasons too long to list. But it is supported as truth through symbolism, themes and in the end, the choices. There's just so much that supports it and actually, if you try to show anything that supports control or synthesis as the choice, I don't think there is a thing in game that does. All things in game support that they have disasterous outcomes. Granted, to say that this supports IT being true might seem like a leap in logic, but the ending only makes some kind of logical sense if you view it through IT. Otherwise, it becomes absurd. Nothing about it makes sense. Nothing about it fits with anything in game if you are being literal about it. A starbrat appears and gives you two new magical choices? Seriously? LSD time. But people are so caught up in the game that they don't say WTF?! and question it - well, they do but they play along anyway. But really it's WTF?! and then stop. No playing along. Something is very wrong the minute that brat appears. Actually, before then we see things we should question, but when the magical platform floats down and lifts shepard into some new place (kind of reminds me Alice going down the rabbit hole) you know something crazy is going on. It's too 'magical' to be real. We've never seen anything like this in game. It's like you are in a dream. Dreams have very strange things happen and we don't question them in the dream, but when we wake up, upon remembering we think 'WTF?!" - From the moment that glowing platform appears, all bets are off and nothing is as it seems. Not that it was before that when Tim was there, but this is a whole new kind of crazy within the construct of the game. Most everyone who plays it knows it and it's why so many hate the ending even if they like whatever they chose. Why? Because there is something very wrong with it. It's not real.

Just to be clear, the weird "child lies" noise I'm talking about happens during the evac as they run into the Normany doors. "Serve us" happens later.

This. Exactly. I generally just say "If IT is true" so as to not sound arrogant or overconfident though. And there is always the possibility, however small, that Bioware failed and is simply trolling us.
