You know, I actually like Jacob and Kaidan. It doesn't mean there's something wrong with me, right? (Bonus points if you recognize what Mass Effect spoof I took that line from)

I think one of the reasons people don't like Jacob is because he really keeps his distance from the player no matter what. While other characters open up to you at one point or another, Jacob keeps to himself, even after he shaggs your femshep dynamite style.

And further more i think that devs making him the way he is in ME3 - is pure genius, especially in romanced femshep case. It is not you who who romances Jacob. Jacob romances you. Think about it.

Talking of voices, does anyone know for certain what the voices are in the background of Shepard's dreams?  I've heard they are the voices of the people who Shepard was unable to save (e.g. Mordin).  Is this true?  Would explain why they build up to become more audible as the dreams progress.  Might also explain why some have claimed that we can hear them the last time we're on the Normandy (after Cronos).

Can anyone confirm?

Yes, in the dreams Shepard will hear the voices of dead squad members as a whisper.

Ex: "Does this unit have a soul", "You're the only friend I have made in ten years."
If you have subtitles on it will show the words.

I had subtitles on in my game but didn't notice that

Yeah, you only hear voices from people who have died.

Heres a compilation of all the voices if you're interested.

Creepy...maybe that's why I didn't have a lot of voices cause I saved a lot of people

Thanks for all the feedback and links guys.

Btw here's a list of the whispers from a thread 7 months old.  The 005-7 quotes are Miranda and 014 is some alcoholic floozy.

Here's a transcription of all the voices I could find for everyone wondering. It's located in an audio file called nordrm_talking_dead_a_D_Int. I will list who's voices I recognize.

A ton of them just whisper 'Shepard' so here's a list of that first. Also they are very very very hard to make out, so sorry that so many are not listed.

006 Unknown Female: I wanted you to have a normal life, marriage, children, things I could never have.
007 Unknown Female: *sob* Finish this, you promised me.
014 Unknown Female: Wars can be won or lost in the editing room, and this war needs to be won.
016 Ash : I don't know who you are, not since they got their hands on you.
017 Kasumi? : I always have time for you Commander.
018 Kelly Chambers: Under your leadership we can't fail.
019 Kelly Chambers: Please call me Kelly, it's such an honor to work under you Commander Shepard.
020 Kasumi: I'm the best theif in the business, not the most famous. Need to watch my step to keep it that way.
021 Miranda: I don't have what you do, that fire that makes someone willing to follow you into hell itself.
022 Miranda: I'm still human Shepard, I make mistakes like everyone else.
023 Miranda: It's just a fact. My reflexes, my strength, even my looks, they're all designed to give me an edge, no point in hiding from it.
024 Ash: Whatever you come up with you can count me in.
025 Ash: Now go back and get the lieutenant and get the hell out of here, you know it's the right choice LT
026 Ash: Screw that, I can hold them off. Go back and get Alenko, you know it's the right choice LT.
027 Ash: That won't happen, go get him commander I'll see you all when you get back.
034 Padok Wiks (Salarian rep for Mordin): And somewhere deep in the fabric of reality that choice will be remembered for eternity.
035 Same as 034: Thank you Commander, somewhere deep in the fabric reality all actions are recorded and remembered.
036 Same as 034: All I've ever done my entire career is destroy the natural course of the universe.
037 Same as 034: Some souls die in battle, some die in their sleep, and some die for no reason at all.
038 Same as 034: With war on everyone's minds our people are on edge.
039 Mordin: Must counteract sabotage, stop me if you must.
040 Mordin: Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
041 Mordin: Shepard *inhale* excellent timing, good to have you here.
042 Mordin: No appologies, did what was right, hope you do the same if neccessary.
043 Mordin: Wanted you to know I'm willing to do what's neccessary.
044 Mordin: Personal interest negligable, sang a little, multispecies productions for cultural exploration, Gilbert and Sullivan, always had me do the patter songs.
045 Wrex: My people have a saying, seek the enemy of your enemy and you will find a friend.
046 Wrex: I know how this will end but I will not back down, I can't, face me in single combat Shepard, let me die with honor.
047 Wrex: One day there will be payback for all that my people have suffered. One of us will see that day.
049 Wrex: I know what you did...Shepard.
050 Wrex: I should have been this way back on Virmire, but I made the mistake of trusting you, believing you were my friend, I was a fool.
052 Wrex: We're curing the genophage no matter what it takes. Everything my people will ever be depends on it.
057 Eve: Your courage for my people will be remembered. *cough* You won't be alone in your fight.
058 Eve: You just spared our race another genocide commander.
059 Eve: Are you here to kill me?
060 Wrex: You're picking that thing over us?
061 Grunt: Shepard is my battlemaster he has no match.
062 same as 061 change he to she
063 Grunt: I am Grunt if you are worthy of your command, prove your strenth, and try to destroy me.
064 Garrus: It's so much easier to see the world in black and white, grey, I don't know what do to with grey.
065 Garrus: I got fed up with all the beuracratic crap on the citadel, figured I could do more good on my own.
066 Garrus: I like to expect the worst, there's a small chance I'll be pleasently surprised.
067 Legion: Shepard Commander.
070 Chakwas: I understand, good luck Shepard. I hope we'll see each other again.
071 Chakwas: I watched them die. They were processed, rendered down into some raw genetic paste and pumped through these tubes.
072 Chakwas: I've lived a full life, no regrets. I'd like to see the crew gets the same opportunity.
073 Tali: If we don't think about the needs of the whole crew, people could get hurt, even killed.
074 Zaeed: Won't do any good, hell of a fight Shepard. Should have seen it *dies*
075 Zaeed: Looks like I was the only one to make it out alive.
080 Samara: I'm sorry Shepard. By the justicar's code, there's only one way to save Valair.
081 Samara: Farewell Shepard.
082 Samara: It has reminded me of what is truely important, why I swore I'd lay down my life.
083 Tali: I'm sorry.
084 Cortez?: Welcome aboard Shepard.
085 Kaidan?: I just want to know, is the person I'd follow to hell and back still in there? somewhere?
086 Zaeed: I've survived this long watching my own back, no time to worry about anyone else.
087 Zaeed: Good get it out of the way so we can concentrate on being big ****** heroes.
088 Zaeed: You must be Commander Shepard, I hear we have a galaxy to save.
089 Kaiden: I've got a few scratches and dents, I hope they just give me character.
090 Kaiden: That won't happen commander, go get her, I'll see you all when you get back.
091 Kaiden: Belay that, we can handle ourselves, go back and get Williams, it's the right choice and you know it Ash.
092 Kaiden: It's done Commander. Go get Williams and get the **** out of here, it's the right choice and you know it Ash
095 Jacob: I'll march in to whatever hell you want, but not with a fake smile on my face, nothing positive about grinning like an idiot.
096 Jacob: I'ts a **** of a job isn't it Shepard? Being the good guys.
099 Tali: I beg you do not do this, please.
100 Tali: So much space, walls of stone, it's amazing. I wish my friends could see it. I wish Shepard were here.
101 Legion: Shepard Commander.
102 Legion: Does this unit have a soul?
103 Legion: Shepard Commander, the Geth only acted in defence after the creators attacked. Do we deserve death?
104 Legion: Shepard Commander, help us.
105 Legion: Shepard Commander, the Geth do not wish you harm. You are an ally against the heretics and old machines.
108 Thane: Kalihera, mistress of inscrutable depths. I ask forgiveness.
109 Thane: You are a great protector Siha but some things are beyond even you.
110 Thane: It seems there will be no one to mourn me when I die. You're the only friend I've made in 10 years.
111 Thane: Just don't make the same mistake I did, there's always another mission. None of them are an excuse to make yourself an island.

In addition the file wwise_norhub_dreams.afc has the music and sfx for the dream sequences so far the only ones I have discerened voices from are these.
001: Help me
002: definitely a voice but I can't tell what it's saying
003: also a voice, can't tell again

Edit: fixed a few screwups

EDIT: changed 085 as per 401Kill
and 034-8, 060 per Rifneno

Oh this is a big help!  Thanks!  Someone should pass this along to Doom's quotes and we can sort out which one is relevant or not

Playing through ME3 with a new character and I just had a conversation with Jame after Mars on the citadel. He says "It's not right. Pretty and safe, but it's an illusion." - something like that. Might not be those words exactly. Love the illusion reference... IN THE CITADEL PRESIDIUM about the citadel presidium.

I know haha. I'm mostly done my ME3 completionist near-marathon, and I just finished Thessia, and ... yeah, the references are everywhere.

I like Kaidan overall.

I don't mind Jacob in the story, but he:

1)Needed to be less 'black-bro' (wtf? Where's my ME:Galaxies Jacob? Same with Miranda, frankly.)

2)Didn't deserve a squad slot for his lack of importance.

3)Horribly lackluster everything.

So I hate him, when it comes to where he is in the gameplay. But I don't care that he was in the story itself.

So, sentient oceans - it is deep and psycological and thought provoking, but a star being alive is a no-no? The do have life cycles in real life, you know.

You people discuss here the possibility of ME3's ending being an imposed illusion and yet frown upon the idea of life having a very different form that you are a familiar with. Yet one of the most famous works in scence fiction that deals with themes of imposed illusion and perception tempering feature a sentient ocean. A movie that has the most similiar imagery to ME fersion of indoctrination also has the life form very different - Sphere (which looks exaclty like the artifact you find in firewalker, btw) - have you seen that one? (the fanny thing is, that Machael Crichton, who wrote the source novel, barrowed a lot of stuf directly from Stanislav Lem's Solaris. And ME3 creaters also did that - it is evident very crealry in the Leviathan. The feeling you get when you first step into the mining facility is the same from the fisrt pages of the novel Solaris - and the premise is the same)
