Just had a silly though...

Reapers leave certain technology behind ( Citadel, Mass Relays, ... ) so the new species use it as a base for their own and "follow the path the Reapers desire".

Control is presented as if Shepard will be able to "use" the Reapers as she sees fit.
Reapers are synthetics, so they can be considered "technology".

So with Control we keep using "Reapers technology", meaning we are still following the path they desire...

"Just talking out loud", don't mind me....

You're absolutely right. The Control and synthesis endings completly fly in the face of what both Legion and Mordin said in ME2 - that handing technology down to a culture before it is ready is unhealthy. It stunts that culture's development by putting it on "the quick and easy path" to power, to quote Yoda for a minute.

What if, since ME4 will have a completely different character - it will feature a system of character generation very much like the one from DA:O - which was very succesfull and very well recieved? So you play though completely different opening act, depeding on your character race? And it would be really not that much trouble to include one secret origin story - for those who import the save with High EMS destroy - in that case, and only in that case you get to play as your Sheprad, What do you guys think?

demersel that's brilliant. It fits in with the there will be no Shepard or Shepard 2 and it fits in with their desires to deny everything that they will do. Plus it fits in with the "you'll regret not holding onto your save games"

Edit-Shepard lives for ME4

Frankly.. I would drop my Shepard in order to play a super cool Geth and have organics follow my commands. At least for one playthrough :P

What if the whole of Mass Effect was a dream? Then ME4 could be considered a reboot and the new Shepard wouldn't be Shepard, strictly speaking, cause he wouldn't have all the experience the old one gathered throughout the trilogy. It would be like an alternative version from a parallel Universe.

Don't even. Please.

Well awakinging you can play as your Grey Warden, or a new character from up north. Oh and how can their not be a Shepard 2.0 if they are going to create a person like Shepard? Unless you have no free will and it's just a shooter game.

Well what if that new game is not that combat oriented? and there are other things to do than just shoot stuff?
You could be a scientist, a smuggler, a mercenary, a thief, a trader! Imagine! the abuility to play as the suave volus trader in ME4! A Volus saves the universe! Or a giddy asari dancer - the hero of the universe! Or relegious hanar missionary! Or a an Elcor con artist! The possibilities are truly limitless!  What if ME4 would be a true old school RPG! not a shooter/rpg hybrid?  Technology allows.

Another 'don't even' here.

I don't want to get my hopes up :( haha

But this would be the ideal for me.

I would even be ok with it being multiplayer... IF it wasn't an MMO (though I'm open to MMO, give it time, I don't want a ME4 to be an MMO). Do it a bit like Fable and have friends join your game world that was formed by ME4 and ME1-ME3 choices.

NPC: "OMG a geth! I thought they were killed on Rannoch!"
PC: "Um no.. this is just some rare one... from an alternate universe... yep... he's my friend and I invited him to my galaxy. Don't mind him..." :wizard:

Regardless of the explosion, if you choose destroy why would Shepard be alive if she had synthetic bits inside her based on reaper technology?

Speaking of high EMS destroy, am I imagining things, or do the lights on the Alliance Spaceships that pass the ruins of the Charon Relay seem to flicker and dim before brightening again? As though the ship's systems are having a bit of glitch.

Perhaps this is to indicate that all technology, even non reaper technology, has taken a bit of a knock from the destroy EMP. If so it makes Shepard's survival in a literal scenario unlikely, even if his implants aren't reaper tech.

Plus where are those ships supposed to be going? It's still going to take them months to get anywhere without the relays working, assuming they can even find somewhere to refuel.

Yes, you can especially see it on the Asari Cruiser at the beginning of that scene.

To be fair, it was not an anti-IT thread, it was just a poster genuinely wanting to know more about the theory. Of course it would've been way more reasonable to just ask the questions in this thread, because this thread has already immunity against the troll hordes (bloodily earned during the Morning Troll Wars in Mark I and II). Maybe the original poster was afraid to post here, since the reputation of the people here is... not the best, sadly.
Yet the literalists, haters and anti-enders swarmed the thread and turned it into an anti-IT thread.

If the creator of that thread is reading this, hi there, feel welcome.

This thread really throws off my perception of the BSN. Its generally so nice in here, I always wonder why people say the BSN sucks, then I go out into other threads, and I'm like "Oh, right. Thats why."

Nice to know I'm not imagining things. Kind of sucks for the Quarians if the emp put all technology on the fritz, seeing as how dependent they are on their suits.

Check this link out. It's not direct, because I want you to see the thumbnail (of the first video). While watching that I was laughing my @ss off, not only because that Shepard looks like a bowling ball :)
Ah... good times. I think I'll rewatch it now.

Someone posted The Sound of Silence, which I appreciate!

I have another one by Katie Melua, "A Happy Place"

SO weird how the lyrics fit.

youtu.be/lCdRA0lQq38

"A Happy Place"

I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy place

Seven thousand eyes are watching
Marching home and no one’s touching
Army of the city workers
Secretaries, lawyers, brokers
Heading for a London station
Heading for a quick salvation

Oblivious to cherry cola
Trying to sell to every stranger

Stuck here it’s cold I’m standing
Hoping for some understanding
Only way to go is inside

I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy place

Seven thousand light years travel
Let my sense of time unravel
Trapped feelings are never ending
Send those weaknesses descending

Towards the earth’s red centre
Let the fire rise and enter
Tap into the primal power
Rising like a giant tower

The energy receiving
Cut a hole right through the ceiling

People getting smaller as you fly

I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy place

(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy Place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place

Find a star, send down a beam to where you are
An elevator of light taking you somewhere
Where you’ll always be loved

I have found that stress and nonsense
Puts me in zone of avoidance
Could my mind be moving faster
Pulling like a super cluster

Can be hard to trust a feeling
But believing ends in seeing

We’re going to find a happy
We’re going to find a happy
We’re going to find a happy place

(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place

Now I'd think Katie is innnocent with these lyrics, but then there's this song:
youtu.be/WXMGeO5vxXo

darktower.wikia.com/wiki/God-drums
"The God-drums are a sound track played over the speakers in the city of Lud. Everytime they are played the Pubes sacrifice one of their own in the belief that it will prevent the ghosts of Lud from destroying them.
In reality, the God-drums are a malfunction. The di-polar computers
under Lud have lost most of their functionality, but can still play
this track over the speakers. The God-drums are the drum track from the
ZZ Top song, Velcro Fly"

...
"Tap into the primal power
Rising like a giant tower"

Back before the EC, I was leaning towards the Waking Nightmare "Shep's on the Citadel, but the brat is lying about the choices" interpretation.

I wondered if the reason the brat was apparently happy to mention the possibility of destroy, when presumably it would undo all his work over the eons, was because he knew the Reapers would actually survive it.

They, like Shepard, are hybrids of synthetic technology and organic tissue. The destroy wave, while moderately damaging to them, would in the long run serve their goals by eliminating their purely synthetic enemies like the Geth. I thought a possible continuation of the story could have the Reapers "rebooting", one by one, a short time after the blast as their organic cores restarted their synthetic parts.

Shepard would then have to race to finish them off before they regained their full strength, but having to face doing so with damaged technology, and the loss of Edi and the Geth.

Then the EC came out with its weird Normandy pickup and equally weird Synthesis epilogue and I wasn't sure what to think.

Well, I am meat... I'm sure a wolf or any other hungry pedrator won't mind much "who" I was if I can fill his stomach.

But if you want me to be more acurate:

Reapers are synthetic life forms fueled by the DNA of the species used for their creation.

I'm an organic life form made of meat fueled by other organic life forms like fish, cows, pigs, tomatoes, apples and oranges...

There are many songs where you can find references to ME. That doesnt prove the ending to be a hallucination.

Where did I say it was proof?

EDIT: I'm simply making the connection between possible religious symbolism of the Mass Effect story and ending, and the direction that the story may be going.

I'm not saying Katie Melua has anything to do with Mass Effect, but I do think that this common symbolism that you can find everywhere if you look, may have something to do with the concepts of 'indoctrination' (and other concepts) in Mass Effect.

I cannot see why posting random lyrics here has anything to do with the thread and should be deleted.
If not as much posts were needless in the first place maybe some others would get the response they deserve and would make reposting everything every x-hundred pages unnecessary. Let's admit it about 1000 pages here are total waste, including this post, and at least another 1500 is just the old stuff again.

That wasn't the point, I'm sure.  Just that they were strangely apt.

Bioware put enough proof in the actual game.

Yknow, I'm bored and replaying ME3. Why do we never use the turret the shuttle has before the mission to rescue Koris, and never use it again afterwards? You'd think it'd be helpful.

Ironically, the same could be said about posts like this.  They are posting lyrics to songs that remind them of the themes.  Nothing wrong with that, so stop being a sourpuss.
