- Quite a few people didn't understand what Cortana did to chief. I actually didn't at first. She encased him in a hardlight box (in a different part of the ship?) to survive the nuke.Gwyphon wrote...
But the entire ending (SPOILERS FOLLOWING) was kind of ridiculous. After the Didact was killed (look I'm just going to ignore Cortana space magic), the chief punches the nuke to detonate the death beam, except why does he even need to destroy it? That ONE CITY the thing was aiming at is already vaporized, ANY of the human ships you can see floating around could have fired a nuke rather than punching one, surely there's an OFF switch in the god damn ship, I could go on. I'm sorry but it was kind of stupid. Maybe it was because we did our legendary co-op run through over one night without sleeping, but it just annoyed me.
- He didn't punch it, he detonated it much like TNT.
- Perhaps shields were up?
- How would Chief know the entirety of New Phoenix was annihilated? How do we know? We don't know how the Composer works.
- Also, the Didact couldn't have an aweome death - he didn't die!

Who the hell said it had to remain true to canon? DC vs. Mortal Kombat?

Because thats not ridiculous at all! Hardlight can do whatever the plot demands it to do!
I personally thought the entirety of the story was stupid, and at no point did I ever care about the whole 'humanizing of Master Chief' thing they were apparently trying to do.
That probably has to do with me finding absolutely nothing interesting about Master Chief, though. Noble 6 was way more interesting. I'd rather play more games as them.
Anyhow, I'm going to sleep.

There could be a scale effect with the artificial realities' sophistication.
The Geth's version is the most basic and primal, since it wasn't designed for organics and their development for organic integration was a new experiment for them. Its highly obvious that it isn't real.
The Leviathans' version is a natural process for them, Enthrallment and telepathy. Its based off using the victim's own mind to manipulate or control it. Its highly surreal, hense feels more like a dream then reality.
The Reaper's version is a technological evolution from the Leviathan's method, refined over a billion years. It might be similar to how the Machines can manipulate The Matrix - they can add things in, but it causes inconsistancies that a careful eye can spot. But ultimately its highly adaptive and subtle, and has a near 100% success rate.

Well, with Omega coming out exactly one week from today, I'm going to try to do my in-depth IT experimental playthrough to see how it really clicks with me. Any last words of advice?
Keep an open mind, listen to every piece of dialogue, look around every area. And enjoy it for all its worth, and try to ignore all the limitations or failings in the game design (that least bit is hard for me, ME3 didn't feel as polished as ME2 did).

Adding to Banshee's post, what Cortana space magic? Also, yeah, Cortana and the Didact certainly didn't die. As for the nuke, the Infinity, the most advanced ship we've ever built by a lot, only managed to make that small hole Chief flew the Broadsword into, and the dialgue while your flying mentioned out orbital MAC stations weren't having any effect, which is pretty ridiculous.

Tbh, that whole secrecy (it's only 6 days to the realease) surrounding the trailer is suspicious. Maybe it'll bring some exciting revelations (like Harbinger and the Collectors appearing in the DLC). Or maybe Omega is more important for IT than we think.BleedingUranium wrote...

I don't listen too hard to what 343 views as what happens to Chief. I just play the game and make my own judgements based not on what I heard they would do, but on what I experienced. That said, I thought the did great expansion of The Chief's character, as well as Cortana's, whilst not breaking/changing their characters.byne wrote...

Noble 6 was boring as hell compared to Chief IMO. It's like playing as the Rookie. You're no one. You say less than Chief did in Halo 3, and feel kind of "meh". I like the customization feature (gender etc.) but that's what I play ME for. In Halo, you play as Chief, in ME, you play as yourself (to a point). I like both. Chief is emotional, he's just very stoic. I thought his VA did an amazing job doing both at once.

So since we can't bring squadmates the only thing that can help us is Cerberus armour? LOL. Bioware loves loopholes.
