I never said Mass Effect is devoid of symbolism. Yeah that would be retarded. What I did say, and I'll bold this so you can see it better.  [b]It is not a franchise that relies on an abundance of symbolism and metaphor, just enough to make the audience think but not overanalyze everything to a point of absurdity.

I've got to say this, so don't think I'm being a jerk or anything.  But that's totally subjective.

The symbolism is there for people who want it, but its not forced down our throats.  Much like The Matrix - it can be treated like an action flick or it can be an exploration into the human mind and a debate on what reality really is.

Personally I see a lot of symbolism, moreso in ME3 then any of the previous games.  Which is suprising for the game considered the most action-oriented of the three!

+1 though I think the symbolism was in all 3 games.  We just didn't understand the context in the first game.  When you go back and try to play it, everything suddenly jumps out at you

This is factually accurate. There is also the Jacob on that one derelict freighter who was brain-dead and his girlfriend went crazy.

OMG, I totally forgot about Julia.

My favorite part of that quest was whether you left the life support on indefinitely or shut it off, your crew will always tell you you did the right thing.  Because BW won't touch a controversial topic, even if they brought it up themselves.

Oh snap.  I forgot about that guy, is he called Jacob?

One of the writers must REALLY dislike someone called Jacob.

In a game full of interesting characters, being 'not bad' is actually a very bad thing.

He is uninteresting. Thats a huge, huge flaw. Most boring man in space.

Kaidan would share that title with him, but radioactive ashes are actually kind of interesting.

Easter egg is most likely. I noticed in Grissom Academy that Cerberus said something over the loudspeaker to a Holly Merizan. An obvious reference to Jessica Merizan, the... hell, I forget what her title is. Something about the community. Anyway, Jacob still sucks.

The first unavoidable quarter of ME2 is ruined by Jacob. It's telling when I can handle Ice Queen B**** Cerberus Cheerleader better than Boring African-American Stereotype In Space.

CmdrShep80 - Shepard did exaclty this with the leviathans. - He came down to them, they meld minds with him, Shepard's mind is full of indoctrination - such direct contact immideatly transfers it to leviathans making them higly succeptable to suggestions.

I think that is how indoctrination works - it first makes you more succeptable to suggestions.

Like in that movie Night Watch - in the beginning a coule of vampires lure in a small boy over a great distance using a Call - their mental force - so the boy get's in a walking dreamlike transe, when he is awake, but does not realise what he is doing and treats every word as command and every sign or a mark as a direction.

That's not even counting the Geth-Quarian Conflict, Project Overlord, Saren and Synthesis, Cerberus being the new Collectors because the cycles keep happening in the same way over and over, and I could go on and on.

Yes, I'm being a bit of a jerk now.

Question to all people who think Bioware went with IT:
From 1 to 10, how likely is it there will be a reveal?

4 pages until I close the thread again?

7.5

I'm either a 7.5 or an 8.  I mean, I'm certain IT is right, but I'm not sure there's going to be a reveal.

That IT is right I'd give an 8.

That they will reveal it... a 2

You know, I personally don't think there's such a thing as overanalysis of a work.  Everything means something different to everyone.  A good analysis or interpretation of a work can definitely improve a work even if said analysis or interpretation isn't necessarily what the author had originally intended.  Look at IT.  Now, I'm fairly certain that IT's what BioWare intended, but even if it isn't, it definitely improves the ending, at least in my eyes.

Guys! I got it! I figured it out! it is bad writing but not in a way you all think!! THey are good writers! But they lack imagination and fantasy to make interesting stories, themes, conflicts and situations - so they reuse the same three or four over and over again! A new theory is born - LAZY WRITING!!!!

So all I have under Adept are the human male, the human female and the human dragoon I believe. Will these work good for that biotic explosion challenge?

EDIT - Added under Adept

I hate to say it, but given Jacob's cheesy-porn level romance dialogue (The priiiiiizzzzzze, really BioWare? :pinched:), and his dialogue in general, the fact that he cheats on FemShep isn't THAT surprising.

I do agree with you on the fact that ME3 is loaded with a lot more symbolism than the previous games. In some ways that is a bit disheartening seeing as it's the end of a trilogy and a simple hero's journey. Personally I think I would've been much more content with more closure and less "speculation for everyone" XD

That being said, no you don't sound like a jerk, you make a very valid point. I just hope that people here also take the time to realize that not everything we have is a symbol either. Mass Effect at its core is not as complex as some people here are trying to make it seem. Just like how some people REALLY overanalyze the meanings in things like Clifford the Big Red Dog and Twilight... I just think that trying to find hidden meaning in everything can be detrimental to finding "the symbols that matter".

Personally I think all the speculation that Omega has something to do with the ending is kind of a red herring (I think I'm using that term properly... correct me if I'm wrong). I also think that whatever the next DLC is will probably have a lot more clues and symbolism that will hopefully be a bit more obvious.
