Yeah.  If the Aurora is real, that's the best example.  Only place I've seen combat UAVs was in video games.

Never heard of Reaper drones? Afaik they have been used to kill taliban and other terrorists in Pakistan and Jemen.

They are in fact used from time to time for assassinations of taliban leaders, but very seldom. Today's combat drones have problems with the targeting of enemy locations, meaning that their inccuracy could cost the lives of civilians. I've read some newspaper articles about that happening, as a matter of fact.

It actually happens a whole lot.

They've tried to downplay the whole 'killing civilians' thing by claiming that anyone of fighting age in the area is a militant until proven innocent.

Conveniently, with that kind of logic, we kill almost no civilians! <_<

Hmm. Well, the danish and german military mostly only use recon drones, so maybe that's why I said it that way. I wasn't specifically referring to the US military.
To be honest, I really don't think that drones are suited for combat just yet. The US military should find a way of limiting civilian casualties before using drones.

Yes, but if the way is blocked by a debry of rubble, then what. An artiliary shell randomly fires and hit's a top of a building. You are driving away from the city, and boom debries falls, and blocks the road. What then?

Sa Byne said, you use a different road. And Masster, that would prove just as much an obstacle to a guy on foot.

Just dropping this for the 3rd and most likely final time.

Have you ever read "An Occurance At Owl Creek Bridge"? I think it relates very nicely to the situation here.

A short summary: the main character Farquhar is being hung for a plot to help the confederates in the Civil War. When he is hung, the rope breaks and he attempts to escape. You follow his journey back home, and when he finally gets there it fades to black. He was killed from the hanging, his escape and happy reunion with his wife never happened.  It was an illusion that the reader believed happened until the end.

While the story progressed through his "escape", in reality, he was dead. The author was writing using the realism style of writing, and "making fun" of romanticism writing (The Hero's journey). The author tells the reader many times that the main character is dead, yet the reader will still route for him to escape because of his backstory. "He is the main character, he's got to escape! Go Farquhar!" I thought this related quite nicely to the endings, you see how they all play out, but in reality, Shepard is still in the rubble. "Our entire force was decimated.". Yet we are shown Shepard rising up, and moving forward, and Anderson on the Citadel too. "Our Hero is not done yet, he is invincible!".

The game, and series, have told us that if you remain in close proximity to Reaper Artifacts, you will become indoctrinated. Another fact is that no single mind will be immune to indoctrination. The only reason the Rachni Queen, and the people of Feros' Zhu's Hope colony resisted is because of the "link" between multiple minds that were shared. These links protected them. Currently, Shepard does not have these links. The dreams, the identity crisis, "Struggle if you wish Shepard, your mind will be mine." tell the player that the Reapers want to indoctrinate Shepard, and Shepard is under an influence of indoctrination but still resisting. A lot of players however, will miss these signs if they are not paying attention, seeing as the story will continue to progress. Even the weirdness after Shepard is "hit" by Harbinger's beam will be over-looked, because the story will progress.

When you look back on it, it seems clear that the Reapers are trying to influence Shepard, just like how it becomes clear that Farquhar was dead from the hanging (it's stated multiple times!).  If Shepard was actually hit by Harbingers beam, he would be dead, there is no way around this.

just watching someone else playing it is pretty scary. It's not about jump scares, it's about paranoia and knowing something is preying on you.

One question:
Do people here have something like an emergency back-pack?
You know... a bag filled with important stuff like:
- first aid
- sth to eat/drink
- flash light
- bowie knife
- a rope
.
.
.

Something you just have to grab if there is any kind of peril (earthquake; flood; major fire; Reaper invasion...)

Of course I do, I'm Batman.

(no, seriously, I do. I plan ahead way too much. Not that I have a fully stocked bomb shelter or anything)

Nope. No real risk of earthquakes, floods and fire here ... and if the world goes down this year, I plan to sit on a hill with some bottles of red wine, some cigs and enjoy the show. :)
Why're you asking?

Pretty much, yeah. Never know when a nuclear war might occur, or something else.
Then again, I live on the middle of a continental plate, so no danger of natural catastrophes here.

Just don't ever look behind you. That's always worked for me, at least. If he's behind you, that's good. Then you know where he is and don't need to look. If necessary, go in big half circles to get to your next target.

The place where I lose the most is the abandoned house in the middle of the map. No damn place to navigate there, and you'll have to turn around at some point.

What I'm about to say, isn't anything that everybody doesn't know already, but just to get the fair word out there, in writing; Dem's QEC talk isn't exactly wierd, from a technical standpoint.

It would assume that some telecommuncations designer has taken the cost_and_flexibility route, of making one end of every pair tied up in a switchboard, like a regular telephone network - a radial structure.
To listen in, you'd only have to tap the non-QEC point where two pairs are patched together (...or splice into it, if you wanted to be proxy to the conversation). The reapers wouldn't need anything other than one line of their own and control over the routing software -- that's one half of one QE pair, as opposed to one of every one.
If one assumed further that the switchboard were to be located at Arcturus...

However; Since the QECs we see are used strictly for confidential communications, I'd say the network is also strictly peer-to-peer, with no middle men - a mesh structure, with a full bank of "voicepipe funnels", at every terminal.
(That said; Even with peer-to-peer; Given the opportunity to hack one of the two terminals and covertly having another one that connects to it in your possession, you could still reroute any traffic involving it -- it might even already have forwarding protocols built in, as a redundancy measure (to avoid being cut off, if one point fails - just like old arpanet and what came of it) -- same thing as before, only your hacked switchboard might not have access to the /whole/ phonebook.)
