as i posted on the 'Synthesis' thread, my thoughts..fwiw.... are the only mandate that shep has when he enters that room (if he really enters the room) is to destroy the reapers. He has no other mandate. Each other option is commiting a crime against everyone who put their trust in shepard to destroy the reapers. The crucible was built (app) to destroy the reapers, as a weapon of reaper destruction... nothing else.

"Keep your mind on the mission" - Commander John Shepard

"The Reapers will attempt to dissuade you, show them no mercy." - Justicar Samara

"The Reapers must be destroyed. There is no other option." - Javik the Prothean

Shepard, more then once used the non violent approach to solve the mission.
Justicar Samara, there is only the code, completely black and white.
Javik, ignorant racist.

Fine then, I'll quote Batman, who we all know is beyond reproach; "Joker's vain and likes to talk, he'll try to distract you, but don't listen, block it out and power on through."

Joker is basically the exact opposite of the Reapers...

-.- Megumi, I'm being facetious.

From what you wrote you were joking about Batman. The problem is still that the two (Reapers/Joker) are in no way connected. Your joke would only have worked if the Reapers had at least something in common with the Joker, apart from being the villain that is.

Yep, they tried to, and successfully indoctrinated parts of the fanbase. It's truly remarkable!

Reminds me of The Wave ...

Oh that! I remember hearing that story, so cool Posted Image I think indoctrination training like this should be manditory Posted Image

Ah, the Third Wave experiement, actually I ended up dancing around an issue like that, pondering whether indoctrination is a technology, a toxic idea, or both, whether the technologic part is nothing more than a transmission method by which more classical methods of mental reprogramming are projected to the subject, because, well, as the saying goes;

"There's no fanatic more zealous than a convert."

Actually, it's not the first time I thought about that book. When I read here in this forum, many things remind me of that it. I'm not saying it is like that, you just can't tell if someone is serious or not on a board like this, but damn ... there is so much hate here sometimes you really wonder what the f*ck is going on.
Add the idea of indoctrination to that "psych-degree" leadwriter and ... I don't know if I like it or not.

Oh, and if someone doesn't know that book or the experiment it was based on, read it. It's freakin' scary.

Edit: Now I gonna check out that wall of text.

another question then.  By that are you insinuating someone here on the forums is trolling to such an extent that people are being taken along and agreeing with their opinions...and thus becoming indoctrinated in some kinda weird bioware experiment?:bandit:

I sent it tonight, my professor has a reputation for fast grading, but not that fast.

Let's hope they're not a literalist!:D

Anyway, pretty good read. A bit pretentious but I suppose that can't be helped in a philosophy essay. I liked the comparison of the geth being synthetic life and the collectors being hybrid non-life, I'd never thought of that before.

Babylon 5?

I don't watch the show, so I wouldn't know.

Either way, interesting observation, I approve.

At one point Delenn is sent for interogation by one of the vorlons agents (jack the ripper) to see if she is adequate for the vorlons trust.

The question he repeats is 'Who are you?'  she finds she cannot answer him and he begins to torture her.

"Unacceptable! What a sad thing you are. Unable to answer even such a simple question without falling back on references, and genealogies and what other people call you. Have you nothing of your own? Nothing to stand on that is not provided, defined, delineated, stamped, sanctioned, numbered, and approved by others? How can you expected to fight for someone else when you haven't the fairest idea who you are?"

When delenn is nearing death, Sheridan enters and is also interogated.

"Are you willing to die friendless, alone, deserted by everyone? Because that's what may be required of you in the war that is to come. What about the people you work with, the people you call friends? Are you willing to sacrifice them? What about your family, what about your God, what about truth, what about blood, what about right, what about wrong, what about your future, what about faith, what about sin, what about hell, what about death, what about life?"

"This body is only a shell. You can not touch me. You can not harm me. I'm not afraid."

It's all about the power of the individual.  Kosh is making sure that what they do, they do for the right reasons and are prepared to sacrifice everything they are in order to achieve it.  Do whatever is necessary.

This is imo John Shepard.  He had the courage in the beginning to destroy the reapers, but surely over time that courage has been withering away (dreams) until in the final dream...he accepts it.  He has lost control of himself in the end..is his will strong enough to follow out his actual objective?

No it's not about the power of an individual. The question "Who are you?" is answered by Delenn's "THIS BODY is only a shell. You can not touch ME. You can not harm ME. I AM not afraid."
As opposed to name etc that is nothing that is given, but is describing her person. She also makes the distinction between the body and herself. It is the certainty of herself and her purpose. The same goes for Sheridan, and while we are at it: while Sheridan's purpose was to stop the Shadows by sacrificing himself if necessary, which he did, and still later on he did NOT chose to destroy them.
It's the same for Shepard. It only in opt out where Shepard can't make a decision where she would fail the test. It's all there in the naming "opt out".

No, but it reminds me of it. I'm not insinuating anything, it's just interesting to think about it. I doubt BW intended anything like that.

Late EDIT: I just realized that with "insinuating" I learned a new english word

You are sent to Eden Prime; mankind’s first, and thus far most successful colony

Terra Nova was the second extrasolar and the first beyond the Charon mass relay. Eden Prime is the model for stability, yes, Terra Nova still has a higher population. Also don't forget it has this status because its also in proximity to the Terminus Systems, showing that the Alliance can stand for itself.

I hope either your Professor doesn't care about such details or you only made that mistake in this version.
Also some of the stuff you describe isn't really clear. At the point where you list the things you find on Eden Prime you can't really distinguish at some points if this is part of the list or if it's describing something else you mentioned before.
I find it also strange how you highlight some points, like the name Normandy on the side of the ship, but describe others in such a way that there are multiple ways to understand it, like how you describe the crew.

Didn't read the rest (too long, never read any of these because of the amount of errors usually add up in big posts and responding just gets you a "why you never do such a thing but always complain"), just posting some constructive criticism.

I like how Arian listed every squadmember in ME2 (even the DLC squadies) portraying their character and their struggles, except Jacob, who is only mentioned in a subordinate clause.
Says a lot about Jacob...

Has nothing to do with positivity. I usually just point out that there is something wrong. Though it's already established you like to think of me that way because of something I actually never did. I guess it's because you cannot accept the fact someone having valid arguments that IT isn't the only viable interpretation.

Restrider well to be Honest Jacob is just there.

You could say that goes for a few other squadmates, but his story was just meh. I think Jacob is okay, but really he just sucks in combat, and for Fem Shepard story wise ya.... He really hit the low for Fem Shepard. Not to mention he is useless, well almost useless in the suicide mission.

Except most of the time it is just you getting **** wrong and then acting as if you're right before ignoring any counter and moving onto the next thing someone says for you to say "HERP, I'm biatch"
