Same with the Krogan - were raised up to help win a war, won it and were honoured, but then decided to attack their allies, got defeated and had to be neutered to keep them in line - and even then they keep trying to stir trouble. They only change because of Wrex, Mordin and Eve's actions.
The only truely downtrodden race seems to be the Drell - and they are apperently happy and content being in servittude to the Hanar, because the alternative is even worse for them!
Yeah actually, let 's add the hanar to the list themselves; seem like a species of fun-lovin', peaceable jelly fish, until we learn they employ "indentured servant" assassins. classy move, you cnidarian scum.
I think the hanar and the drell have a relationship of mutual respect, though. I'm not denying that you have a point, but at least the relationship between the two races is equitable.
I both agree and disagree.

You're right that Thane certainly seems to indicate a great deal of respect on the part of the drell for what the hanar did to save their species. And much of their service seems to be inspired by that sense of gratitude.
But I don't know that I agree that their relationship is an equitable one. From Thane we also learn that many drell have adopted hanar religion and culture. It's not clear how much of that is simply a matter of a bigger, more technologically advanced civilization enveloping a smaller one, vs. how much of it is part of a deliberate proess on the part of the hanar. For all we know, there are policies on the hanar homeworld encouraging conversion etc. Or not. No evidence either way. But the drell are basically living as invited guests in someone else's home. So there is kind of an inherent power imbalance there. And the hanar do not seem to mind using them for morally questionable work. Thane seems to repent having taken all the lives he has; some of them he seems to think were morally incorrect to take.
