It's not nearly the problem it's made out to be in America either.

Of course.  But a bigger country with more people is bound to have more instances pop up.  I imagine if we added up all gun crime in Europe it would be comparable to America.

Urgh.

One reason I'm glad to be in the UK, we have very little gun crime.  Even gang shootings are so rare it makes the news whenever they happen.

Of course, we have other problems.  But at least firearms aren't one of them.

Thank God I don't live in America anymore. Haven't been back since 1984. Been living in Canada since 1989, so no guns or at least their used for useful purposes like hunting, but you aren't allowed one for anything other then that. Unless you're a police officer.

Of course.  But a bigger country with more people is bound to have more
instances pop up.  I imagine if we added up all gun crime in Europe it

Think they just need to put in tighter gun laws. That should fix some of the issues.

Can I just step in here and put a stop to this before we start talking about guns? That never ends well.

Fair enough.

So what did you guys think about that comment I posted a page or so ago about the imaginary boy who could manipulate reality or something along those lines?

Edit: Wasn't a page ago, but more like page #2700.

Hey, so I just came across a real old thread, well. PreME3 release. Just. And I wanted to get the IT experts thoughts on it.

http://social.biowar...3/index/9608202

The link video has been removed. But everything in the thread seems pretty accurate.

Well, I mean, you can talk about guns if you want, it just inevitably leads to gun control debate, and that kind of stuff doesnt ever end well.

Now imagine if instead of Starbinger that you had someone like your LI speaking the same words? That would be the ultimate emotional mind job.

Not sure if it'd work though.

Another one I just thought of would be to take the kid's voice and "Reaperize" it. There was a guy who found out how to make Reaper voices somehow. Sure would be funny having him say "wake up", followed by all the other stuff he says.

On second thought, that would probably wreck the illusion the ending is trying to create.

Probably not. It would remind people of what that character would want and bring to mind things they said. For instance:

Real!Garrus: Go out there and give them hell. You were born to do this.
Dream!Garrus: Destroying the Reapers is a bad idea. Instead, you should leap into this glowing beam that will essentially rape all living things and do absolutely nothing to the Reapers! (Oh, and don't think about the other turian that supported this idea :innocent:)

Yeah, I don't think it would work. :P

Oh, and I got my response from my professor about the paper, anyone who read it interested in hearing his comments?

It's a rather fascinating bit.

I'd rather hear from the one who thought Armageddon was realistic.  I bet it'd be hilarious.

I realize how ambiguous the nature of this assignment was, but your approach was right on target with what I most wanted to see out of this. I agree with your statement on what you totally agree on, “And in my case, to this day, it is a philosophic question I remain pondering months later, likely as the writer intended from the beginning.” Since I think that is essentially the message many intend anyway. Your interpretation of the narrative elements of the series is intriguing to me. It is especially intriguing to me since now I am of course familiar with this series thanks to your 8000 words and enthusiasm. And I also agree that “the best stories were the ones we could identify with, ones we could put ourselves into; so you’ll understand me when I say that the best mediums to connect with their audience are ones that are interactive.” I would normally say that Love and responsibility seem clearly among the topics explored in the series and I find it interesting that the critique I have of Existentialism seems to or / not to apply to love as explored this way – as the case may be. Existentialists stress the individual Geist (German for Spirit – where we get the word “ghost”!) in their focus on the “In itself” of the Hegelian dialectic (the “in-itself” in dialogue with the “for-itself”). As a result they find human existence to be depressingly isolated – we are alone. The narratives Existentialists create based on this are all more or less depressing depending on how alone the central character is portrayed. I cannot recall ever finding one that is joyous in picturing the central characters “situatedness” in the world. Of course all of the characters are in relationships with others or there would be no story. And I gather in these the “audience” member is also an actor. The resolution is not simply a recognition of ourselves as just objects but what meliorates this situation is our relationships to others. But in Christian narration the relationship the characters have to God is different than the relationship they have to one another or the relationships they have with one another are different because of the relationship they have with God leaving the whole quality of the narrative different. So I wonder if we could not reinterpret the main point of this narrative as the importance of our relationships to counter our solitude? I wonder if this is the goal we should expect to have as a result of the cathartic experience we have from this production? Was it addressed to a multi-tiered audience/ participants? Would some find it a celebration of depression and others a celebration of social relationships and the interpersonal web – which can be meant many ways here -  on which all life depends? I would like to find a way that it stresses the importance of our interdependence on one another and on God. Thank you for a very thoughtful piece on this. A for term paper.

Garrus rules.

Garrus: How are you holding up, Shepard? This all has to be taking a toll.
Shepard: There's only so much fight in a person, only so much death you can take before--
Garrus: Before your friend picks you up, dusts you off, and tells you you're the best damned soldier he's ever met.

Paragon interrupts. Garrus gets them too. Interesting choice of words too. Could be reading too much into it, but breath scene Shepard definitely needs picking up and dusting off in a literal sense.

To bring those who weren't awake last night up to speed, I wrote a philosophy term paper exploring the themes and philosophical narrative of the Mass Effect Series, why? Because I could that's why. Though I must admit, I was torn between this and discussing Baldur's Gate.

I hear they remade BG recently too.  Am I the only one who didn't care for the first one but loved the second one?

If the reason was the combat, then no, you're far from alone; such is the curse of low level AD&D combat.

Ashley: Everything depends on this. Think we have a chance?

Shepard: There's always hope. It's how we got this far.

Ashley: And you made it happen, Shepard. You're the reason we're here.

Shepard: I've had people like you picking me up and dusting me off when I stumbled.

We've never met (Hi, I'm Krimzie! Nice to meet you!), but I just read your instructor's response and I would really, really like to read your term paper! Or snippets of it. It sounds fascinating. I'm currently writing a term paper about audience participation, interactivity, and avatarism in Hamlet -- and I use a Mass Effect lens at one point -- so I'm really interested in more ME-flavored scholarly work! :D

The combat was definitely part of it.  There's just something undeniably awesome about stopping time.  But the whole storyline felt kind of... meh.  Just lacked that epic appeal.  Oh no'es, an iron mine is in trouble?  I can't even pretend to give a damn.

Although I hope if/when they remake 2, they redesign trolls.  Trolls were the worst part BG2, much like this thread.  The average troll in that game took more damage than a god because of the convoluted way you had to kill them.  Haven't played that game in probably 5 years and it still gives me nightmares.

Not a chance they'll remake trolls; it's a mark of the setting. Wild animals have been known to dine on troll meat, a seperate troll regenerates and bursts from their stomach ala the alien movies.

Oh and congrats on the new nightmares. :D

But seriously, no worries, troll flesh goes up like a match when you put a little bit of strong acid (stronger than stomach acid before you ask.) or so much as an open candle flame near 'em.
