Has anyone ever calculated how far above Earth the Citadel is placed?

Is 'closer than the moon' a unit of measurement?

Edit: Eryri answer is better.

Geostationary means above the Equator

edit: Geosynchronous orbit:
<img>
edit2 well that didn't work

edit3: formula:

h = ((G*M*t²)/(4*pi²))^(1/3)-R

Well the Reapers put it above London. They broke the space laws. Call the space cops.

My favorite part of the physics of the ending, and oddly the one I never see anyone else mention, is how there's barely a "thump" when dead capital ships fall over. I can't even imagine what the impact would really be like.

Nah man, they're 2km tall giant robot cuttlefish. They probably weigh like 5 pounds. Its all good.

A cloud of dust enough to knock those soldiers off their feet at least.

Yeah, this bothered me too. Particularly the oddly flabby way they fall down and then do that little wobbly bounce. As thought they're made of jelly instead of metal. Shoudn't the force of the impact rip them open, and possibly detonate their supposedly massive eezo cores?

I doubt the reapers would bother with geostationary orbit, given an expectation they're not permanently parked.
Rather I imagine they're just hovering the Megamaid Citadel over one city at the time, vaccuming it, before moving on to the next.
All we are is dust in the wind, dude. :P

Maybe the citadel isn't parked but being constantly moved to keep up. Seems needless effort, but heck, they already moved it between systems for no obvious reason.

Not quite, geostationarity without using engines is calculated by setting the time to orbit Earth to 24 h, that can be done at any angle. But orbits always have to orbit the center of mass, which is why a planet or satelite is always on a plane.

But you want something else: have it above the same point all the time. But that indeed is only possible above the equator.

BUT, the above is without using engines.
So, if you want someting to stay above a point on Earth you can always achieve that but you'll have to keep it above it. So who said the Citadel isn't maintaining the orbit above London without using something. Hell, it got there somehow and I don't think the Citadel just jumped into orbit.

Hell, more than that (excluding the eezo cores I suppose).  Look at the damage caused by the WTC collapsing.  Now magnify that many times over.  For even a single capital ship.  That scene is quite the headscratcher if taken literally.

I dont think it would rip it open,  they are ridicoulously durable after all and if they have been disabled we can assume the core is offline.

That beeing said I am pretty sure what amounts to a mountain 2km tall made of whatever material they are made from toppling over would smash quite a bit through the shockwave alone.

That's good, I like the trap idea but using a well known city for it to hurt the enemies morale would make sense. I don't think Hull or Bath would've got quite the same emotional response.

The Reapers did this with a Turian colony too. I forget the name, but when they attacked it, they broadcast vids of it to the rest of the Turian planets, because that place was where the Turian equiviant of 9/11 for the US happened.

Taetrus.  Some major Reaper trolling going on there.

It is nothing new the reapers' psychological warfare is on an epic troll level.

If not for symbols in form of cities or planets they will take VIP's.

Imagine what would happen to the galactic alliance if Shepard were to succumb to the reapers and turn against his/her own. They would show vids of him/her shooting fleeing civilians or worse.

Damnit, this game gets into your head and you can't get it out. I'm playing Skyrim, going through a dwemer ruin, and I see a chaurus reaper. I hear Sovereign going, "Reaper. A label created by the dwemer to give voice to their destruction." <sigh>

By the way, that is an interesting point! The sovereign doesn't think of himself as a "Reaper". He doesn't call himself a reaper, he straight out tells you that that is what the rpotheans called them.
The leviathans call the reaper "Reapers" only because "your memories cive voice to our thoughts" - because Shepard knows them as reapers.
Yet, the Guardian thing straight out says. "Yep. I control the Reapers".

yep they would.  the best humanity has to offer siding with the reapers would be a major coup for them.
