Or humans have a hard time pronouncing it, like the mechanic on Noveria's name so he says to just call him Li.

Could be. What mechanic?

Li.

I'd forgotten Keith Szarabajka did VA in ME1.

Well, since we know that the turians are somewhat based on the Romans, I'm inclined to think Adrien might be a reference to Emporer Hadrian, who was made emporer by the previous emporer right before he died.

That fits the story in ME3, which Victus becoming the new Primarch after the previous one's shuttle was shot down and destroyed, so you may be right.

Exactly.  It's not identical, but there are enough parallels that I'm inclined to think it was intentional.

I didn't know that, but it makes sense. Point against "bad riting" #2556

Exactly! Little subtleties like this erode away the "bad writing" or "Bioware has no idea what they are doing" theory!

I still don't like how the turians have clearly human names. Just a pet peeve of mine. They are aliens; they should have alien names.

Yeah, people love to say "disprove bad writing" or "prove IT" as if there's one of two points that will do that, when really it's just a whole lot of smaller things that come together.

It's something they never understand, and when we show them a list of things that support IT they'll discount each point by itself, as if that proves something. What they don't seem to be able to do is look at all of those points together.

I always just headcanon'd it as the translator changing the name to something humans can easily say.

The names are alien enough to pass IMO. I think part of the beauty of learning about these diverse alien species is realizing that we're not so different.

I agree, I think that's one of the main themes in Mass Effect.

Adrien is the example I can think of that seems oddly human, though it's not like I have a problem with it.

Yeah, I mean, Garrus isn't exactly a human name (Until I name one of my children that, anyway. :lol:)

On that note, does anyone else expect that in the next 20 years or so we'll start to see a lot of kids named for characters like this? Garrus, Liara, Tali, Cortana, etc

I can't see those being first names. Maybe middle names.

Why not? Because they're made up characters? Did you know that the now very common name "Jessica" was invented by Shakespeare?

Well, supposing people still know about ME at that point, it could probably get annoying for those kids in school.

My name is Clinton and the Bill Clinton jokes got old fast.

My kids are going to end up going to school with Sephiroth, Bella, Garrus, Goku, and Sonic. I've already accepted this.

And they are right. It's the parts of a car. You still have to assemble them the right way.

20 yrs from now if Mass Effect is still culturally relevant, naming your child Jacob Taylor or Kai Leng will guarantee stolen lunch money, swirlies, and afterschool beatdowns.

Oh?  Ms. Lennox's daughter is named Tali?  And only three years older than I am?  Eh, it would never happen.  But a guy can certainly dream... ^_^
