Hate to say it Dorktain, but Raven is right here.

We dont know nearly enough about the Crucible or its function to claim to know what it does. We can guess and that is it.

This is not about the crucible. It never was. It is about hope, endurance, resolve and fighting as united galaxy.

In fact here is one part about the idea that Sovereign should be the power source or something like that which dosent quite hold water. In a normal cycle the Vanguard is not even near the Citadel when the Relay is opened, it merely broadcasts a signal and the Keepers handle it.

Beyond that Sovereign did shut down at least the Relays sourrounding the Citadel as the Actorus Fleet needs it open before they can help. But if Sovereign needed to transfer power into the Citadel to do this, espeically if it was in the amounts which the Crucible is supposed to put out he would have been much weaker in the battle against the fleet. I can say this for certain as despite the Reapers enormous power sources there are examples of it not beeing unlimited, like how a Reaper performing a sharp turn or landing on a planet has to direct power form their barriers to their Mass Effect fields (the ones for lowerings its mass) in order to pull it of.

If Sovereign had been forced to direct a massive amount of energy into the Citadel his barriers would have been serverily weakened and probably his weapons as well.

In fact from what we know the Crucible probably generates way more energy than even a Sovereign class Reaper. Nevermind that it is far bigger (we see the Crucible in comparision to the Citadel and to Dreadnoughts) but the Crucible energy output has been described as "unquantifiable." The Reaper may have a massive power source, but it has never (especialy considering their flaws) been described anywhere near terms like that.

And finally you would not need any extra energy to shut down the Relays by all logic. A simple shut down signal sent through the network should suffice.

That would bring up an interesting idea: just how powerful was Sovereign? Even as weakened as he was, he still took out 1/3 of the Alliance fleet.

Indeed, IT at its base is not about the Crucible.

But under It the question of what the Crucible does, what its purpose is, hangs in the air, unanswered. And even if it is a trap, it may turn out to be our only hope of winning nonetheless.

Yes, that is a good question. Worthy of a DLC to follow up on it.
But even without it - the most obvious guess would be - it destroys or shuts down all the mass relays.

But ME3 is not about it. It is about whether or not you are willing to fight the reapers no matter what. Because, if you can't, how can you expect any one else to do it?

Edit:

Scratch that apperently the ME3 war assets say the entire Allaince Fleet was there...which makes me wonder how Sovereign could hold his own. Probably the Geth forces, at least that is my guess as 8 Dreadnoughts should have ripped Sovereign to shreds.

Though the Fifth Fleet was still the spearhead of the assault, so perhaps the other fleets were more engaged with the Geth forces, keeping them from aiding Sovereign?

I dont know, this is not making alot of sense to me right now, maybe I am just tired.

I thought it was 8 cruisers they Alliance lost according to Shepard's ME2 interview with Khalisah?

That is what they lost from what I recall, but I am refering to the fact that the combined Alliance Fleet has 8 Dreadnoughts (all whom apperently survived the Battle at the Citadel) and considering the math of 3 Dreadnoughst to 1 Sovereign class Reaper, Sovereign should have been ripped a new one by the combined fleet.

Possibly a retcon on Biowares part making the Reapers slightly less formidable or perhaps the Thanix cannons (and other upgrades since then) are really that good?

Well, this sucks. Apparently, Miracle of Sound's tinnitus is permanent. However, he says that he won't let it beat him, and he'll immediately start recording again, though he won't be able to perform live anymore.

whats tinnitus?

Effectively it is a condition that causes "imaginary" noises (noises not from surroundings) such as buzzing that are constantly there, and can skew your hearing. For a musician this is a bad situation but not impossible to overcome.

EDIT - On another note. Finally discovered MEHEM. Totally is my head canon now.

So it's basically what James has?

Also, why is MEHEM your headcanon? Mine is totally IT. I mean, MEHEM is awesome and I'd totally take it until an IT reveal, but still.

No it's not a hum, it's basically the sound when a TV has this white noise thing going on or when it's on standby.

Yeah, its 3 Dreadnoughts are a match for a Sovereign Reaper with their current upgrades.

And that's assuming a Sovereign all by itself, not one in a formation or being covered by other smaller vessels.  The only reason Sovereigns are vulnerable at all is because if you engage them and force them to turn, their mass lowers enough for Thanix Canons to be effective against them.

If you don't force them to manoever, they are basically invulnerable.

True, ME2 was "great" when a rocket hits near you. I've got a slight tinnitus for years now and when I heard that and everything else goes blank (even the music etc is turned down) the first time I basically ripped the headset from my head checking my ears, that's how realistic it was.

Damn you LDS you actually made me feel a tiny shred of guilt for making fun of synthesis supporters. You're ruining it for me.

Great. Now I'll have to do double duty mocking to make up for spotless.

Oh well, at least the synthesis supporters will help. They mock themselves as well as anyone not named Seanbaby could. "Durr, everyone will get along fine and it'll be utopia now because everyone has circuitry in their taint!" I mean, damn man, how do you even mock beliefs so brainmelting stupid? You know what's also fun is when synthesis supporters come to the shocking realization that not everyone would support it. Really. Trillions, that's trillions with a ****ing t, of people are to be affected by it. Was there ever even a shred of doubt in their tiny minds that SOME people would inevitably hate this genetic rape? Yet so many of them are all shocked by it. "Woah, you're right, Javik/quarians/whatever might not like this!" No, really? You think? Actually no, you clearly do not think. Whatever, just jump in the beam and get away from me, Saren ripoffs.

Holy **** I hate synthesis. I mean control is bad, but synthesis is the worst idea since Japan decided America was bluffing in 1945.

In ancient times, considerable note was made of understanding the elements, for these were considered the building bricks of the Universe, and hence many believed that these were also part of the basic structure of themselves.

The Wise Beings of those times saw themselves as a reflection of the universe. They studied the stars and nature, and used the information they gleened, as a method of understanding their Creator and themselves.

All of us now live amongst nature, even those in towns and cities, and most of us are quietened by walking in the countryside or along the seashore.

Few of us take the time to really study it, yet if we care to follow these ancient beliefs, we may find that nature itself holds the key to much inner knowledge of our own nature, and the part we play in the great Cosmic Plan.

Every day we warm ourselves by Fire,

Wash ourselves in Water,

Feel the Wind in our hair,

Walk upon the Earth.

Yet many would be astounded to realise that those same elements could be interpreted as also functioning within ourselves. We are all made by the same laws, and these elements are not only felt around us, but can very certainly be seen to express themselves in many ways within our nature.

Because of this, the elements are considered by some to be very important and, by analogy, can be compared as follows:-

Air = Thought (freedom of will) (interestingly represented as..................YELLOW)

Fire = Desire (red)

Water = Emotions (blue)

Earth = Stability (green)

I know of yellow only from Harbingers glowy eyes.

Did I mention I think this element idea is totally stupid? :D
At least it's the most grasping at straws of any idea that wants to explain the colors.

Also there is more white and yellow in synthesis then in any other. Spirit bomb awayyyy!
