Finding the negatives, acknowledging them, then dissecting these negatives is better than to simply ignore them.

Look, let's not start a fight. Nothing will come of it.

I'm with estebanusister on this one.  Ignoring the negatives doesn't make them go away.  Better to bring them up and deal with them immediately than let them lie festering in a corner until the smell becomes so bad that you have to deal with them or face ridicule.  These are the things Literalists bring up.  We must have a defense ready, or we all look like crazy conspiracy theorists.

Yes, I know. It's great that someone does that. It can help us. But I don't think one "side" is at fault here. Este could stand to be a little less pessimistic.

That would be true for an intelligent counterpoint.  Which is something I've yet to see out of est.  "Nuh-uh, it's only one writer and that writer doesn't matter!" is not an intelligent counterpoint.  Not that the topic needed one to begin with, because nobody's going around citing that conversation as evidence anyway.

It'll probably get worse before it gets better. Soon everyone and their imaginary sister will be trolling us. Until our day of reckoning finally comes.

Hey, Im back from the most depressing part of New Years: taking down Christmas stuff.

I agree with Dwailing's position on bringing up negatives. We must learn and adapt to them. Its the only way this theory will grow.

If the Citadel is the central point of the Mass Effect universe, it's probably going to be where the trilogy ends. Just a guess.

Javik said something similar where the Citadel was the center of the universe, and it was also responsible for the Prothean's demise.

The Final Hours app referred to it as the Star City or the center of everything that goes on in the galaxy. When the Citadel opens up during the ending it looks like a star.

Yeah... the game ends there, if you haven't noticed.

Breath scene says otherwise

That is essentially post-ending. the ending occurs when all the galaxy-changing events occur. Everything thereafter is post-ending (That is to say, the epilogue). The entire epilogue starts when Hackett/Shepalyst/EDI start talking. The breath scene is the end of the epilogue. That is also only one of several different endings, if you haven't noticed.

Hmm, I'm getting a lot of condescension from your posts.

Breath scene takes place on Earth. If Earth, it means IT/something similar is true...meaning the choices are not real and we are not on the Citadel at all. That means that the ending does not take place on the citadel; rather in our own minds.

As this is the IT thread, most of us don't believe we were on the Citadel at all, so by saying "if you hadn't noticed" which does come across as slightly rude, it is wrong in most of our views.

i'll go with the tried and true route of "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth"

Let's assume that shepard's breath scene is on the citadel...taking into account that shepard had no shields and armor as well being badly wounded, the blast from the citadel's explosion gives a 100% guarantee that anything alive near shepard's vicinity would be turned into a crisp, if not vaporized entirely.
If by some freak chance shepard manages to survive we have to take into account that the citadel blew up and got torn apart so there's a very good chance that whatever equipment keeps the place shepard's in breathable and pressurized condition is malfunctioning or even deactivated leaving shepard's barely alive body at the mercy of space's vaccum.

Now then let's move on to the possibility that the breath scene takes place on earth...if shepard was indeed on the citadel and then was thrown towards earth due to the explosion, then we hit the same wall as in the first point, point being that shepard has a 0% chance of survival under those conditions and the ones before mentioned like lack of any shields or armor. like we've seen in ME2, shepard *died* due to the reentry damage and in that scenario shepard had a full suit of shielded armor as well as lacked a citadel sized explosion proppeling shepard into orbit.

Then the only scenario in which the breath scene Can occur is if shepard never left earth at all.

I'm still humoring the idea of the breath scene happening on a Reaper. It explains the sights, sounds and Reaper tech that being on Earth doesnt explain while the rubble that being on the Citadel doesnt explain can be easily explained here as it got taken when Shepard does.

Everytime somebody comes in here and questions IT, we should just link Acyvos' video and ask:

Have you actually played the trilogy?

Edit: Proof my predictions are always correct. My next prediction is that Bioware confirms IT.

ok.  Earlier i mentioned my take on the Leviathans and the possible reason for the reapers IMO.

more questions than answers i'm afraid. - wall of text (apologies)     :innocent:

Leviathan: '' Before the cycles, our kind was the apex of life in the galaxy. The lesser species were in our thrall, serving our needs. We grew more powerful, and they were cared for. But we could not protect them from themselves. Over time, the species built machines that then destroyed them. Tribute does not flow from a dead race. To solve this problem, we created an intelligence with the mandate to preserve life at any cost. As the intelligence evolved, it studied the development of civilizations. Its understanding grew until it found a solution. In that instant, it betrayed us. It chose our kind as the first harvest. From our essence, the first Reaper was created. You call it Harbinger''.

Notice the singular use of Harbinger.  Was one of the Leviathans used for the first reaper?  Was harbinger a test subject for the solution?  Did the leviathans realising what was happening with harbinger and go into hiding?  When Harbinger was reaperfied, did others follow the same route?

I am basing this part of the overall question on Cerberus.  Lets say the Solution involves creating thralls to do their bidding.  With humanity it was cerberus.  Was there a leviathan equivelent?  A Leviathan splinter group - much like cerberus - augmented with technology that eventually became a ruling class?  Forcing the others into hiding?

Also as i mentioned earlier.  the whole line..''Tribute does not flow from a dead race'' really bothers me.  When the reapers assend a race - they do not class this as killing off the race.  they are in their opinions helping and assending them.  Assension through destruction.  Are the reapers a way of acknowledging Tribute from the main species of each cycle?  An indoctrinated person offers tribute and then their race is slusho'd, made into a reaper with the indoctrinated persons personality matrix... an everlasting tribute?  is this possible
?

''Shepard: And now we all pay the price for your mistake.
Leviathan: There was no mistake, it still serves its purpose.
''

so it is still doing what it was designed to do.  While the Leviathans hide in their deep underwater cave.

''You have penetrated the darkness''

err.... hang on a minute.  He's just taken a trip down to the bottom of the ocean looking for evidence of the Leviathan.  What do you mean?  Is there more going on here than what we see?

''Shepard: How did the intelligence defeat you?
Leviathan: To find a solution, it required information - physical data drawn from organic life in the cosmos. It created an army of pawns that searched the galaxy, gathering this data.''

Does this mean it created the reapers? Or did it indoctrinate the Leviathans and have them do the work for it?

''Shepard: How did you remain hidden all this time?
Leviathan: Our extermination was not complete. Some survived and found refuge in the dark corners of the galaxy.'' (notice the title - and sam hullicks titled musical gift over christmas)

''Shepard: Tell me about the Reapers.
Leviathan: Each harvest ends with the birth of a Reaper. Perfect in its design. Each formed in Harbinger's image. Our image. Each Reaper has the power to influence organics. Over countless cycles, this ability was refined, perfected, and gave rise to indoctrination.''

''Shepard: But what's the point of all these harvests?
Leviathan: The intelligence has one purpose: preservation of life. That purpose has not been fulfilled. It directed the Reapers to create the mass relays, to speed the time between cycles for greatest efficiency. The galaxy itself became an experiment. Evolution its tool.''

Like I said about the Tributes comment.  They are trying to preserve life and tributes.  one race from each cycle is preserved as tribute - an everlasting reminder.

''Shepard: Will it ever end?
Leviathan: Unknown. Until the intelligence finds what it's looking for, the harvest will continue.''

Judging by my theory the harvests will always continue because no race will ever be able to oppose them to an extent that the reapers are beaten due to the 50,000 year time limit.  or maybe it's looking for the right answer to the conflict?

''Shepard: What do you know about the Crucible?
Leviathan: [thinks for a second] We have watched its construction before, it has never been completed. Those who have tried still fell victim to the harvest. Its outcome is unknown.''

That is imo a lie.  There is more to this than Leviathan is letting on.

My theory is each cycle completes it up to the Catalyst.  Thats the whole point of the crudible.  one person makes it.  he is offered with a choice.  that person is indoctrinated enough to pick an option the catalyst wants... thus he is taken away and used as the personality matrix of the new reaper.

If you notice in the control ending... the citadel closes.  Why is this?  They are constructing the human reaper.  That aint good.
.

apologies for the formatting but i'm shattered and i've got to be up in't morning...work..
Night all.  keep up the good work.

oh dear god...just confirm IT already
