Like Steelcan after Sanctuary I was left with the impression that control was possible although I felt that it was ambiguous whether it was actually achieved or not. Prior to this mission I HATED Cerberus and TIM, ME2 royally ticked me off in many ways, I would have turned the Normandy over to Ashley and the Alliance on Horizon. I thought that TIM was an utter fool to believe that he could ever control the reapers right up until Sanctuary.

The Reapers attacking their base changed my opinion on the feasibility of control, if it wasn't possible and the Reapers were secure in this knowledge why would they do this? Just leave the foolish humans to their delusions, it only makes things easier for the Reapers. It left me with the impression that either Cerberus succeeded or that they got close enough to give the Reapers a scare.

<shrug> I figured it was just Reapers reaping.  There's people there, and people need reaping apparently.  If they truly deemed Sanctuary a threat, would they have sent in a bunch of scrotum demons--err, ravagers, or would Reaper capital ships have bombarded it from orbit with the force of a nuclear strike?

Damnit, you win this round, Byne Leng.

If the Reapers really thought Sanctuary was a threat, they'd have obliterated it from orbit, not sent in a bunch of footsoldiers.

Why destroy what you can use?  The Reaper may have wanted to use the technology Cerberus developed.  Also BioWare left logic at the door for ME3

The Reapers might have been drawn by all the communications about how it was a "Sanctuary" for people. By that point in the game, the Reapers have clearly entered most of the galaxy anyways. We are given no real indication that them invading is anything more than just Standard Reaping Procedure.

Autodialogue Shepard is a really moron sometimes though.  Like when s/he says that the Reapers are leaving the yagh alone because "they have teeth."  Really, genius?  A two kilometer starship is afraid of teeth?

Why would the Reapers care about the technology of lesser beings? They are consistently characterized as being arrogant and dismissive of the accomplishments of any race besides their own.

I see this bombard from orbit and turn the planet to glass argument popping up in various places and it honestly always confuses me. Don't take this as sarcasm as I'm honestly curious. The reapers have incredibly advanced technology but it all seems to focus upon tactics of subverting individuals and groups. Is there any place in the actual lore where reapers are shown to utilize weaponry to bombard a planet from orbit or is it just assumed that their ships are equipped with this? Their lasers don't particularly strike me as an excellent tool for bombardment, they're shown to cut through buildings and ships but I'm unconvinced that they would penetrate something if it was on a deep subterranean level. We know this isn't the case on Sanctuary but if you were intent on wiping out a facility and all its knowledge it doesn't seem wise to assume that its all above ground.

I would say even it is probably not allowed. I just used it because I it fit the situation, and I figured estebanusister would be reading the thread still, and I knew she also played KS, so I used a picture from it.

I think the Yahg quote was a bit less literal than you give it credit for.  But yeah auto-dialogue Shepard is a ******, no doubt.  But that's a plot point.  Not mindless banter.

The Reapers want indoctrination studied, it suits their purposes. Just like on Virmire.

Allers of all people clears this up.  Yes, the reapers do obliterate from orbit.

You really have to look for them, but multiple planet descriptions indicate that they once had life but were bombarded from orbit with an amount of ordinance beyond anything thought possible. The time periods given suggest it was Reapers.

Maybe the Yagh can injest metal. They could be like a Scraplett, and Cybertronians are terrified of Scrapletts despite being hundreds of times bigger.

There's also the codex. Reaper capital ship's main gun is estimated at upto 450kt. For reference sake, Hiroshima was about 15kt.

Allers never exactly made it onto the Normandy in my playthrough and I only read certain codex entries where I was particularly interested in the subject material, hence my ignorance.

If Jacob has a fan, it must be the kind that blows air around.
