I have a new theory. What if the Reapers are really the apex of evolution from the Andromeda Galaxy that had the same problem and chose synthesis. Then after the synthesis continued and "evolved" organics and synthetics of that galaxy chose to unite and become Reapers. Now they travel from galaxy to galaxy breeding and expanding what they believe is the pinnacle of life?

Sounds silly

Sweet! So you think it has a chance?

As long as it has a "Universe Map" where you can go to different galaxies, and each one would be as huge as the normal galaxy map.

Or there is an empire of even more advanced and evolved aliens out there, and they use the Reapers to ensure no other species can ever evolve enough to threaten their reign

Everything is better than the origin story we got from Leviathan

I'd rather not. I'd like for us to get rid of the Reapers and that be the end of it, everyone lives happily ever after.

Well, I'd also like Shepard and crew to live happily ever after, but maybe if Mass effect 4 is set 100 years or so later, we could have a new galaxy-threating enemy then?

Or maybe we'd be better off having a smaller scale, more personal story in ME4, so as not to overdo things?

Perhaps it would be best to save the next apocalypse for ME5?

It's possible. But I don't think BioWare knew who Leviathans were when they wrote that line.

I think they known about them since ME1

If you're talking about the Leviathan of Dis. I don't think that proves anything.

Wasn't that a Reaper?

No I mean I think they had an idea of the creators of the reapers since day one I don't think they made the leviathans up so quickly in that amount of time during me2 and 3

There wasn't meant to be any Leviathans in the Dark Energy plot.

In the dark energy plot the reapers still had to come from some where. The leaked plot was still kind of skeletal from memory.

Something like... intergalactic UberReapers? With our Reapers only being interstellar tax collectors?

Or SuperReapers, who ride on motorcycles and are believed to be at least 60 feet taller than ordinary Reapers.

But can be killed with simple gun, quick we need a pre-mass effect gun
(was your post a family guy reference?)

:P

But a race of beings even more powerful than the Reapers to present and even more powerful villian for future settings...I don't know, sounds unlikely to me, the Reapers are already supposed to be super powerful.

well, lets hope BW doesn´t feel like gettin the stakes higher in every game. As long as the game is good they dont always need to beat the previous villian or event

Ooo, few new pages, what'd I miss... a debate about the definition of theory.

Really, people?

True. It could get a bit "Apocalypse of the week", if Bioware aren't careful, like every season finale of Buffy.

Not saying I wouldn't want another massive existential threat at some point in the series, assuming ME has a good, long life-span. But maybe a smaller scale story in the next installment would be a refreshing change.

Especially about literature >_>

Regardless, indoctrination is seperate from Indoctrination Theory.  It happens, and we know how.  The only thing unclear is exactly how far Shepard's gone down that path, and what really happened.  Everything else is as much as can be confirmed as possible.

Speaking of that, I tweaked it a little, the dark font color makes it kinda hard to read ;)

With the way things were left in some of ME3's endings, Bioware has little choice about ME4:
1. retcon everything
2. make a prequel (worst scenario)
3. force "destroy" ending and make a sequel (I hope this will be the case)
4. force "refusal" ending and make a game set in the next cycle. They won't go with this one, because no humans

re the collector ship theory. (see beam thread)

Shepard did say something about it going to earth didnt he in ME2 when he saw all the pods?  Is this the very thing that will confirm IT?  as in the beam actually goes to a collector ship / processing vessel?

That would be awesome though! Less humanoids would also be good.

I don't think it does and I dislike it somewhat.
I'm still debating if I would prefer that to the s**t we got though.

Yes, but how do you imagine Bioware going with this option? EA won't let them drop humanity, even if Bioware wanted to. Racial pride and what-not

Three is the most logical choice, how can you have a Mass Effect game without humanatees?

One is the second most likely option.

Another thought, the device like the crucible can act as a giant reset button for writers and coders.

If IT is correct, they don't even have to "force" an ending. Then destroy is the only ending that can be expanded upon.

Either way, I hope they won't let Mac Walters work on the new game
