Did they forget Mass Effect is a video game?

I think people are missunderstanding what 'video-gamey' was supposed to mean (not claiming I know what Casey actually meant, though).

To me ME always tried to give ya a cinematic experience. Moreover, end-bosses tend to become rediculous...at least to me. For example the final boss battle of the Matrix game "Path of Neo".
While it was video game typical, it felt cheesy and unnecessary to me. In general, video games aren't what they used to be 20 years ago. They try to have involved storylines and characters.
That doesn't mean that they should seize being games, but a boss battle at the end for the sake of a boss battle (like what the Proto-Reaper fight felt like) kinda kills the developers intention of creating something that is more than 'just a video game'.

tl;dr: I don't think he meant by "too video gamey" that they will eventually get rid of everything you love about video games.

Attention Everyone! This is yout Neighborhood Watch Commitee reminding everyone that boss fights are too video-gamey. Thank you, and have a pleasant day.

I love the abridged series, and anime in general, (well maybe not "in general" Posted Image) but unfortunately I doubt many people here will understand the jokes. Posted Image

Only abridged series of anything I've ever watched was Avatar, which was pretty great.

ya i like that one too, but it is far from the best one out there imo, the Yu-Gi-Oh one is funny, even if you don't necessarily watch anime, not to mention it was the first "abridged series."

I'm glad the topic has switched to anime. That's how bad Megumi's synthesis arguments were. I'm glad to see anime.

It's not anime, it's abridged series that make fun of the show they use so you would actually love this conversation.

I must confess I only liked one anime series...and it was Pokemon - though I'm sure nearly everyone liked that right?

What are you going to do when they nerf the victim card so you can only play it twice per round?

I think the best thing the Avatar Abridged guy did were the Amon Joke videos. Each word leads to a different one.

Plus they got Steve Blum to actually do some bad jokes in Amon's voice.

I am not a fan of any anime. The closest thing to anime I liked was Avatar: The Last Airbender.

That was my show.

Those were great, and good on Steve Blum for doing that for that fan.

Okay...
You are aware that the correct set of comparision would be Levo-aminoacids vs Dextro-aminoacids.
The Aminoacids are determined by the DNA, but I'd say that the chirality of the DNA molecule would be responsible for Levo or Dextro. It would still be DNA for Quarians and Turians.
Probalby ninja'd.

I don't think the chirality of the DNA, or direction in which it's wound would matter. In our cells, a gene is first transcribed from double stranded helical DNA, to a straight, single strand of RNA by RNA transcriptase. (I think the chirality of the DNA would be lost at this point, if I can remember this stuff correctly.) This short length of RNA then leaves the cell nucleus and feeds into a ribosome, which reads the triplet code of the RNA. (This triplet code is identical across all life on Earth, but probably wouldn't be the same on other worlds, so a human gene would probably sit there and do nothing if you transplanted it into a Turian cell.) The ribosome grabs free amino acids from the cytosol and translates the RNA into a string of amino acids. This then folds up and forms a functional protein.

Theoretically you could have something other than DNA to store the genetic information. DNA just happens to be very good at that job because it tends to form complimentary strands, so you have a negative, redundant copy of the information which helps to correct for errors and mutations when one strand gets damaged.

EDIT: sorry for the lecture. It's just I've seen a few people mix up DNA with the amino acid chirality issue, when they are different molecules.

On another topic, any idea why the "Boss Fights are too Video-gamey" thread has been honoured with a sticky?

Think Bioware might be crowd-sourcing ideas?

Wait? What??
Edit: Great Top Post.

Yeah it's odd. That thread has been stickied all afternoon. Mark 2 of the IT was only sticked for a few minutes before a mod noticed and corrected the mistake.

Pretty sure it was for at least an hour. Not entirely certain though.

It means it stays on page one at the top of the thread list, even if no one posts on it. It's usually reserved for officially approved topics, or Bioware announcements.

I noticed this one had been there since about 2 this afternoon and it's nearly 11pm now.

So, what would be the cause for DNA producing Dextro instead of Levo aminoacids?
I know that on Earth all life is based on Levo aminoacids and thus the used aminoacids to be used to synthesize proteins are Levo aminoacids.
My knowledge in genetics is not that good, but does during the process of protein synthesis happen some sort of connection between RNA and the monomers of the proteins (=Levo amino acids)?
If that is the case, wouldn't the chirality of the RNA actually have an influence, since docking processes usually only happen with the correct stereoisomers involved. These are genuine questions.

A lot of those VA's do stuff like that. They realize they are entertainers, so they entertain. One of the best was when four of them did a version of "Whose Line is it Anyway" called "Whose Line is it Anime" for an entire segment.
