It's just illogical:
The Guardian wants us to use the Crucible to choose Synthesis. However the Crucible blows up after a certain amount of time. This is supposedly due to the Reapers attacking it. But the Guardian controls the Reapers or is at least aligned with them. With a destroyed Crucible, Synthesis cannot happen...
This is of course, literal thinking.

Has any literalist ever tried to explain why the catalyst's voice consists of both female and male Shepard their voices? I find this one of the more telltale signs that the ending is not what it seems.

Why can't the kid call a ceasefire while Shepard decides, since apparently even destroy is a "solution"?

What's even better, is that we learn from Leviathan that the Reapers perceive Shepard as a threat.

And that's why they're going to help him "find a solution"?

SEEMS.LEGIT.

when we ask the catalyst for more information, he just goes "sorry, we don't have more time"
as far as i know, harvesting cycles go on for hundreds of years and our harvest started...what, a month at best? i'm pretty sure he's well within schedule for him to be worried about being late on his harvesting spree.

Apparently the Crucible blows up, if we wait too long.

Maybe the Crucible doesn't blow up, but Shepard bleeds to death?

Just brainfarting here.

maybe it's not really what it appears?

Thats for certain, i meant the above with the idea that Shepard is still lying on the ground before the beam.

And then there is its "solution" which involves killing Organics...oh sorry "preserving organics" so that they wont be killed by AI...and he does this with his fleet of at least semi AI ships.

Someone should really get a technician cause the Catalyst seems to be suffering from a severe case of circular idiocy

It usually goes something like this:

IT: It shows that the kid is able to access your mind, or is created by your mind.

L: But MaleShep doesn't have a female voice and vice versa, so you can't say that, I win.

IT: You still haven't explained how it works in a literal sense.

Starbinger - "There's not enough time."
Translation - "Do as I say before I kill you."

Basically I think its a case of Harbinger trying to seize Shepard's mind right now. If it takes too long, reinforcements will show up and potentially rescue Shepard.

In Control and Synthesis, Harbinger gets what it wants.

Low EMS and Refuse Harbinger just kills Shepard off for being useless to it.

If you take too long, Harbinger kills Shepard for being seemingly useless and indecisive.

High EMS Destroy Harbinger is forced to flee before it can kill Shepard, or is impressed by Shepard's resolve and strength and decides it'll try again later and spars Shepard before retreating.

And then there's the fact that not anyone in the game can explain what the Crucible actually does. Not even Leviathan and Javik have an answer.

This indicates that it may be as much a trap, as a weapon.

I like how they ignore Chris/Jessica when they admitted the Catalyst could access Shepard's mind :P

anyone got an actual answer as to why the crudible ejected the large dome before docking? what was the point of that dome in the first place?  Also who was flying it?

IT: It also could serve as a means to indocrinate(fool) the player, who better to trust than the voice of your main character?

I thought that was pretty hilarious. Super advanced and old, refined over time, giant device thing need to eject parts of itself like a '50s rocket WTF Posted Image Not just the sphere, but the "nose" antenna thing too. It didn't even do anything first! We could have saved a crapload of time and resources by never actually building that part. Posted Image

Woop, my student loan came in. I have £1100 to my name for this term so I'm ecstatic. My budget is set so I can live without fear of poverty now :)

We've gone a bit off-topic now. The point being made is that because organic life and synthetic life has no meaningful difference, Synthesis, even if it does exactly what it's said to do, can't solve any (alleged) problems.

actually, no, as synthesis doesn't change/hybidize, as many proclaim. It merely represents the idea of organic dependence on Leviathan technology in the MEU for survival. The balance of them(synthetic life) vs. us (organic life).

We pit our tools against nature to survive nature. So it's natural to become "more" like the tools.. or vis a vis.

It even crossed my mind that the Crucible is of Leviathan design and is meant to recapture the AI (read Reapers) so they are in control again.

It should work like the Sphere's we find in Leviathan.

Whenever I mention any related IT stuff outside this thread I get jumped on by trolls, so I should probably just keep it here.

Even if my post doesn't fully have to do with IT, and just a hint of IT, it happens.

That's not an excuse for using Shepard's voice, both of them no less.

Because its supposed to sound familiar and trustworthy.  Using both Shepards kills two birds, don't need two different Catalyst voices.

Exactly, I'd also like to add that in the refuse ending he shouts "So be it!" without their voices. What gives?

Seperating their voices is hardly any effort, nor does it require any significant diskspace. It's either incredible lazyness or it's more than you might think.
