What!?

You mean, your friend isn't entirely trustworthy? :P

No, more like he finds the best solution to a problem is to kill both sides off.

That doesn't sound like a friend I would want to have.

I get your point. I've never put the time into learning technical and sciency stuff, so it's a little outside my intellectual comfort zone. I do know enough to understand your analogies, just not enough to think of them on my own :(

This is why I love discussion!

That's the point of th IT thread if you ask me. We are the geth consensus. We share perspectives. We combine our intellect to achieve something greater than any one of us could come up with individually. Through the trials of repetition, we discard the unnecessary and fortify the important. The weaknesses of one of us are insignificant because the strengths of the rest of us do more than compensate for them, they overshadow them. We can be wrong as individuals, but as a group, a team, we become something greater: what humanity could become if we put our minds to it. If we work together. This is my vision of the future.

As for me, I tend to have a moderate understanding of english, literature, math, physics, chemistry etc, but I am an expert in none. Jack of all trades.Posted Image

This is what I was talking about earlier when I was speculating about the repaer model of intelligence compared to organic or synthetic.

Some day I need to put all these essays in my blog section or something.

An interesting read. The reapers could very well be a failed version of what they say they are in a sense.

Nope. As a matter of fact, he's sitting right here beside me and telling me that the catalyst has the right idea.

First off, let me begin by simply apologizing. Clearly I came off like a jerk. I also made some unfair accusations. I apologize for insulting you.

Doomsday pointed me to your full post on page 407. I was responding to the quote pyramid atop page 408, which was only a sliver of your post. In it's entirety, and understanding the context of the response to heretic hanar, it's obvious I misrepresented your position. Even without that context, I was unfair and rude. I should have gone back a few pages before launching into you like that, and I do hope you believe me when I say that I wasn't trying to attack you personally, just what I too hastily assumed was your position.

IT is not a retcon device, as we clearly both know. In fact it's the opposite. IT provides a way to take the narrative further without trivializing what the player has already experienced. In retrospect, I find both the thematic element and the plot device to be inseparably linked, both equally fundamental to understanding the meaning of Indoctrination Theory. You and Doomsday are correct, we supporters of IT too often fail to explain what the story behind all the little details we have found actually means to the player and the series, creating confusion as to what Indoctrination Theory really is, and providing no emotional resonance to draw people in.

A very good read. Another example of why I always look forward to your posts, Simon.

From now on, I'll always have that in the back of my mind when I see synthetics, and not just Mass Effect synthetics either.

Is there a possible, that the Mass Effect 4 will start with breath scene and all what Shepard did past 10 min. was just a hallucination?

Does anyone know anything about it?

That's the only way the game would have a good plot.
Otherwise Mass effect 4 should not even happen, no more mass effect games and Bioware should disband.

should but i think we all know ME isn't gonna end here , good or bad. Already said i will not buy a prequel right away ( if not at all) just because i would prefer to see the future of the futuristic ME universe

as much as i like the ME universe , the ME story was shepards story, without shepard it just wouldn't be the same so it would be nice if they made another , to have it take place after the breath scene

Don't mean you have to play as shepard but hopefuly they just don't completely kill him or her off

Reused assets don't really cut if for me on this one. That's a Reaper horn, not some ambient noise

Agreed. Reused assets, my ***.

Reposting for everyone who missed it:

(The sound in the TIM/Anderson convo is in fact a Reaper horn, only slowed down!)

It's not TIM in your head, it's a freaking Reaper.

Oooo I missed this. That's actually pretty great find! This would also support the theory that the events in the hallucination corraspond to real time events in some way, just at a slower speed... In an way... I guess =]

MIND = BLOWN

GUYS!!!!!!

I just made the most amazing discovery!

The whole 'dream theory' had me thinking about that sequence with TIM and Anderson on the Citadel. TSA and others were talking about how times goes much slower in dreams, right?

Suddenly I had this amazing idea. I went to youtube, found the sound of the Reaper horn and recorded it in Audition. Resampled the wave by stretching it, guess what? I got that exact same sound effect you hear when TIM is talking to you and you see the black corners of the screen.

So I needed confirmation. Found the citadel scene, recorded that Indoctrination sound, upsampled it by compressing the wave...what do I get? That's right. A mother******* Reaper Horn. EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

Someone suggest me a way to share the sounds with you guys and I will.

It's a REAPER that's indoctrinating you, not TIM. It's a freaking Reaper horn! You're just hearing it at a slower pace and lower pitch, because you're dreaming! It's Harbinger!

It's not necessarily Harbinger. But withing the context of dreams it does make sense that this could be Harbinger doing the real sounds in reality. Together with the electrical discharge sounds that sound a bit like guns and the orange light that could be Harbinger's 'eyes' in reality, it's all coming together.

What is more, if the Reaper horn plays during such a indoc. heavy scene, then it'd be so easy to follow from this that the Reaper horns are not only communications between the Reapers but also what we hear when we are being indoctrinated.

Either way, cool find!

Exactly!

Some of us always suspected it was a Reaper sound, but this proves it!

No, of course it does!

Then I guess the sound that plays during Anderson's interruption of the ventkid dialog, is also a slightly less slowed down Reaper horn?

I just checked it. No, it's not a Reaper horn. It's definitely a Reaper sound though, if I speed it up it is more recognizable as such. It sounds somewhat like the groans and stuff that Harbinger makes during the last charge to the beam.

Yeah, that once's super interesting! To me, it sounds like Harbinger is really in your head, because it's like a whispeer and doesn't sound as if it were from a far away source.
