Thanks Banshee, but my evidence is the endings. Shepard can Control the Reapers because of his memories of the good times he had with his crew, and LI. As long as he remembers his promise that he made to his LI, then he will always be my Shepard,, that I once knew.

Lok,
Yeah I remember that thing about Coates disappearing right after his Shepard chat and nobody but Anderson and Shepard responding or even making eye contact. But it's such a shall sample size it's pretty hard to make any assumptions from that
That's not all the evidence, there's a fair amount more. Here's some I can think of off the top of my head:
He teleports around while and after your shuttle lands at the FOB. I believe one of Prettz's videos shows it.
He doesn't just disappear, he walks straight toward a pit. Why didn't he just go behind Shepard?
He moves in unison with another soldier after Anderson hands out orders at the FOB. Same exact movements, same time, same direction, too, I believe.
There's infrasound when he is near you in the FOB, and it goes away when he leaves.
He's also the only Alliance soldier in the entire FOB, including Anderson, that doesn't wear a hat, and many people have noted that there just seems to be something... off about him. I wouldn't include those with the evidence, but they're worth noting. I know that there's sutff that i missed, too.
And don't forget that he shares voice actors with Loghain from Dragon Age: Origins, IIRC. Major (turn-) Coates just screams "backstabber" to me.

Also, female and male Shepard hear the same whispers, so male Shepard can hear, for example, Thane's "You are a great protector, siha" and one of Kaidan's ME 1 romance lines. FemShep can hear one of Ash's ME 1 romance lines.

Don't you know?
In all seriousness...why would he betray Shepard? We don't know enough about him and there is no foreshadowing to imply he would betray...
Anyway. I'm off to bed. Maybe my headache will go away with sleep.

OK! Time to end this once and for all!
Sorry to say, but Coates is voiced by Nicholas Boulton, and Loghain/Han'Gerrel/Gavin Archer is voiced by Simon Templeman
Source: http://www.imdb.com/...ullcredits#cast
apologies if I sounded rude, but I've heard this "Coates and Loghain have the same VO" thing since Mark I and I NEVER thought they sounded even remotely similar, aside from both having British accents.
Edited for Mass Effect voice credit toward Templeman's roles

Also, even if it still had a chance to be true, the IT ending is worse than the endings we have now because it ends (in a BEST CASE scenario) with Shepard waking up, then it ends. You never know what happens to the reaper conflict and all the characters...
I would love to see an extension to this ending, but it seems silly to cling on to the IT when you consider what it would mean if it were true...

We are here because the evidence points us to this interpretation. Whether we like the conclusions drawn from the evidence is irrelevant.
Also, the EC did not kill IT. Jessica Merizan said it "neither confirms nor denies the IT." In fact, the EC has given more evidence to support our interpretation.
We get "didn't EC kill IT?" about every other day.

Did you actually read the codex in any of the games? The Object Rho artifact is capable of indoctrinating anyone who's near it. I think there's probably about 90% of the fan base who just played the game and didn't even touch the codex. Maybe read a few articles, but not the whole thing. A lot of good information in there which would answer their questions.
In somewhat hallucination/dream related news, I just watched a TV episode which was very similar to the ending. Using hallucinations to alter reality as well as people's dreams. Or using the enemy's mind as a weapon against his victims. It was very much like the ending. A lot of weird stuff that didn't make sense, until they found out in the end it as all a bad dream of sorts.
