That's what make the Mass Effect trilogy so important to me. The first one was released in 2007 and i'm still discovering new things about it. There are so many influences, references, messages... it's crazy....

Something to think about: I want to see some stats for who picked which ending options before and after EC. Specifically, I want to see how many people chose refuse after EC. I bet the percentage was an absurdly high amount. Why? Because everyone hates the "Catalyst" and everyone rejects his "logic". I wonder how many people just shot him, (because they hate him) and got that ending. You know what I did? I picked refuse because, you know, I did want to reject his ideas. Then he was all like:

"SO BE IT."

And I was like: "YES! INDOCTRINATION THEORY!!! IT'S HARBINGERRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Then he said "The cycle continues" and I felt absolutely trolled and it seemed like Bioware gave me the middle finger. :(

So I reloaded the game, has to go through that again, and then, being angry already, shot him. SO BE IT; I turned off my xbox. Then I realoaded it again, and picked destroy. Then I had an enormous feeling of "meh".

How did you guys feel when you played EC?

My save is right after the talk with the Catalyst, before the actual choice. So I couldn't choose Refuse (though I do have the Restart save, as well), but if you need info on slides or a specific line or something, I could check and tell you what choice I made to get it.

Huh. I didn't know you could save there. You could shoot the kid for refuse. I'll let you know if I need any help, thanks! I'll post what I have done so far on the closure part.

It's a quicksave, I couldn't get it to do a regular save. But yeah, it messes Refuse up and the brat just...dissapears. I can't shoot him because he's not there <_<

As for your other post, I'd quote but it's rather long so...It's accurate, but I feel I should mention there is a little bit of closure with the ME3 squad: you seem them at the memorial wall. It's not exactly what happens after everything is over, but at least you know they're there. As for Grunt not being in Synthesis, I think that's a glitch. I know I got him getting out of the shuttle with Wrex (like in Control/Destroy) the last time I did it. My slides have been messed up since Leviathan though, so I have no idea what's up with that. About Jacob...what was his second slide? I've only seen him standing in front of the room of people. I take it they're the ex-Cerberus scientists, but I thought there was only that one ending to that mission. What changes?

Edit: Also, did Mordin have a slide? He died in all of the saves I have near or at the ending.

I chose Control pre-EC and post-EC. I don't count inadvertently shooting the Catalyst. Posted Image

I had a hunch refuse would not lead to anything. So I stuck to my guns and chose killing those reapers with ****ing fire again. EC makes it even more obvious that his logic is flawed and intentionally designed to confuse players who are not paying any attention to the themes in the trilogy. Watching the slides makes it even more apparent that the ending is a battle of the mind.

"There is wisdom in harnessing the strengths of your enemy". Notice how easily this quote can pass for something Harbinger would say despite this being a quote from Shepard.

Ha, the exact same thing happened to me  if I have to hear the The citadel it's my home  line once more I'll throw myself out of the airlock. :bandit: And yeah the ending (destroy) was a little better but not what I expected, sending the Normandy away like that seemed kind of cheap.

Also don't know if it's usefull but Coats has three diferent slides (one of them plays in two endings)

There was acutally a poll somewhere about the chosen endings. You had five options:
Destroy:
Control:
Synthesis:
Refuse:
"Accidently" Shot Catalyst:
And the percentage of the latter was quite high (also the name of the category made me lol hard).
Can't find the poll, it was like three weeks old or something.

I shot him first just to see if I could, not knowing I actually could refuse him (thought it was just the Renegade option of being an ass) and kind of panicked and reset once the credits rolled. Had to go through that half hour conversation again, which is what I was trying to avoid by resetting, only to find that I should've at least watched after the credits. Anyway, after shooting him the first time I went back and chose Destroy, which was always the only option I picked before.
I'll admit, though, the Control ending really grew on me after EC. Not enough to choose it as my "canon" ending, of course, but I like the possibilities with it. And there's just so many ways it could go wrong...Shepard getting indoctrinated, Shepard trying to act as a guardian for the "many" only to end up messing it up and having them rebel against the Reapers again, Shepard finally understanding the Reapers completely and losing herself by agreeing to continue the cycle, etc. Also, FemShep's voice.

I didn't know you could make a quicksave there. Could be useful for my video. And Mordin has a slide if he is alive, yes.

LOL. But yeah, did you notice that Reaper-Shepard's goal is to protect life at any cost? Sound familiar? If Shep has the same goal as the Guardian, she hasn't solved anything.

Glad it's useful for something other than avoiding the same conversation over and over and over again. I actually didn't know about Mordin getting a slide, that's cool. Do you (or anyone, for that matter) have a screenshot or link or something? I'd really rather not replay the whole series just for one slide :P

I find that last part very strange. The first person you see in synthesis, is an untrustworthy, new character who looks like he was just promoted by his reaper masters (Saren), and is also dead. Coats' importance is kind of forced on you, even though he isn't that important...

Sorry for bad quality. Some speculations are to be had here, I think.

Exactly. One could argue she wouldn't go about it the same way, but that's not Shepard. It even says "the woman I once was" and that she "guides" it, not that it is that person or that it will do what Shepard wanted it to. If anything, it's The Shepard - not merely a legend, but their...overlord.
Think she makes them compute Pi all day? :P

Ooh, thanks! It definitely looks like he's working on another cure. Does this only play in certain endings or all of them? If it plays in Control or high EMS Destroy, he should probably be wary of Shepard...

Exactly! For some unknown reason Coates is portrayed as a very important character in the end when he infact does almost nothing. You talk to him once (which is forced) and hear him on the radio some and suddenly he seems like a very important character (talking about his slide aperances and his body on the Citadel)

Well I don't know, but if it plays in synthesis, that just plain doesn't make sense. It cures everything. Which also makes Shepard's choice about the cure pointless, Quarian/Geth peace pointless, etc.

Edit again so this isn't a useless post: Synthesis making your choices obsolete isn't that shocking, since one of the major complaints before EC was that nothing mattered anyway.

It does not play in Synthesis in plays in control for sure, (the .bik file is worded for control ending) don't know about destroy.
