I understand people who dislike the idea of a cliffhanger so are against IT, but I'm baffled by people who dislike the original ending saying an IT DLC would be worse. I've never seen one say why.

Aint that standard for people ranting against the IT coming into this thread? Seem they are quick to hate the IT, but they can rarely account for why it is wrong. Exceptions occur off course.

Because it's flame bait. Even completely unrelated threads devolve into IT bashing sometimes.

It's no great loss because I'm sure everyone on this forum has at least some knowledge of IT so it doesn't need 'preaching' or anything.

True, and honestly, this thread (and MkI/II) is pretty much our own forum for IT within BSN. We mostly talk about IT, but also have huge amounts of off-topicness

Maybe BW wants to have all progress related to IT in one thread. So it is easier for them to take notes and implement it later.

I'm sure it's some one's job to keep track of this thread and try and support some of our speculation in the future DLC. Would be a little irresponsible for them not to.

Edit: actually, that's not fair. Bioware isn't done yet. I'm going to say the community will always think of MORE symbolism than what was intended. Might be some nice ideas to use

Oh, the Catalyst is mad as a bicycle.  Insane in the mainframe.  But - this is a result of it's original programming and the way it has developed over the last billion years or so.  It is convinced it is doing the right thing, fulfilling it's programming.  But it's logic is flawed and it has essentially become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

It's interesting that the warnings against AI stretched back all the way into Mass Effect 1, with the Citadel races ban on research into AI technology.  The galaxy is aware of the potential risks LONG before the Reapers and the Catalyst arrive on the scene.

I think most of the people who are against the concept of Shepard being indoctrinated (whether IT, ITCON, Waking Nightmare or even elements of the Puzzle Theory) are so opposed to it because it conflicts with their own headcanon regarding the ending decision.

After all, if someone has convinced themselves that Synthesis truly is the "perfect" solution, then a reveal that it never actually happened (or worse, is all a trick), would probably go down like a lead balloon.

Aye, most of the haters have Synthesis banners. They obviously love the idea of turning everyone into a cyborg against their will and destroying the laws of physics.

And its ironic how IT is called fanfiction when all it really does is contradict their own fanfiction headcanon...

I think transhumanism/synthesis will happen in RL some time.
While the idea of Synthesis (how it is presented by starbrat) is flawed, it is yet observed earlier in the game. For example the Geth loading themselves into the envirosuits of quarians. Extend this and use the technology of interfacing (ie. Overlord, Geth Consensus) and you have some kind of intertwining of synthetics and organics. In the long run, I think something like that would be very probable.

But that is not the Synthesis we see starbrat offering us.
1) It is a 100% merging, something that would require space-magic.
2) It is forced on everyone (thus unethically and breaks the lore, since a huge theme of ME was Shepard fighting for the right of self-determination [with the exception of ultra Renegade maybe]).
3) It is presented out of no-where by an entity that presumably represents the reapers.
4) The reapers themselves are the only thing that resembles the presented Synthesis option the most. They are made out of organics and inorganics and refer to themselves to be the pinnacle of (organic) evolution (as presented in the dialouge with Legion after ME2 Suicide Mission!).
5) Synthesis being praised by illustrious characters such as Saren and Kai Leng is not supporting that kind of ending, either.

Yep, even with the Extended Cut, Synthesis requires some serious interpretation and headcanoning to make it logical that Shepard would actually freely and willingly choose it.

Aside from the obvious Saren correlation and the Reaper's own horrific methods, the concept of Synthesis doesn't come up at any time during the trilogy until the final two minutes of the game.

I doubt anyone as they were making the run for the beam first time around was thinking "YAY!  It's the final battle!  Now I can find a way to merge all organics and synthetics into one single hybrid form AND BE A HERO!"

No, I'd imagine 99% of the spoiler-free players were thinking "I've got to activate the Crucible, destroy the Reapers and end this madness for good".  Maybe a couple were thinking they might get an opportunity to control them.

But... a 30 second conversation with little to no exposition from Starbrat, and suddenly Synthesis seems like a really good idea?

There's so many unanswered questions with it, such a large number of blanks to fill in that you can quite concievably be husking the entire galaxy instead of promoting transhumanism.  I can happily state that Synthesis as an ideal ending requires more headcanon and a greater leap of logic than anything associated with IT.
