I find it funny that people are rating ME3 so low and ME2 so high given how **** both of them were.

Edit: It's almost like people can't differentiate between good and terrible story telling.

I dunno, maybe because their opinions are just different from your own?

"That's just your opinion, man" isn't a valid argument. It's fine for people to enjoy wahtever they want, but that doesn't mean ME2 or ME3 are well told stories because they're god awful.

Ah another ME2/3 hater trying to push his opinion as fact

ME1=89 (only played it once, need to play it again but i own a ps3)

ME2=97 (great characters, dialogue and missions)

ME3=60 (imo only thing ME3 managed to do is improve combat and abandoned things that made the previous games awesome)

ME1-95
ME2-90
ME3-75/76

All together- 90

These are based on the times they came out and what they did better/differently for the industry that has/will effect future games.
ME1 had flaws, but was a huge game changer (no pun intended) for future RPGs.

ME2 did improve in some areas while loosing parts of what made ME1 a groundbreaking RPG (basically they became popular and felt the need market themselves to a wider audience).

While ME3 was solid game (ending excluded without EC) it was rushed and closely influenced by Bioware's publisher EA. This lead to a rushed ending that failed to convey the ending "they" chose with a good chunk of focus placed on it's multiplayer component.

ME 1: 80. Good story, freedom of choice, but combat was subpar and characters felt flat at times.
ME 2: 89. Better gameplay and more interesting characters to interact with. Favorite cast in a Bioware game. Character driven story as opposed to a set typical path.
ME3: 70. The combat is better, but the story is subpar and feels rushed. Some key missions and moments stand out to me (Rannoch, Tuchunka, Thane's farewell), but even they are marred by the rest. Also, never feels like my decisions through out games matter other than who showed up as most stories played out the same regardless of if characters were there or not. This coupled with false advertising and lack of what I found to be a fulfilling ending ruined the series for me. I haven't played any of the games since, and though ME2 remains one of my favorite games I'm done with Mass Effect as a whole.

For those who are interested, I tallied totals of first 80 or so scores. Any numbers over 100 were rounded down to 100 and any numbers below 1 were rounded up to 1 so they fit within scale given. If person chose not to vote or didn't give number, I didn't include in average. For ME3, I used the score for EC if two were given so game was judged on it's finished and final form. The results so far are as follows:
ME1: 86.9
ME2: 86.2
ME3: 68.5

While exploration was at times tedious (I am a completionist all the way) and the gameplay was underwhelming, ME1 delivered where it mattered most: Story, characters, and pacing. Every world had a certain atmosphere, and I felt I could truly role-play my many Shepards. I recently watched the entire credits of ME1 just to try reliving the incredible feeling of completing the game.

ME2: 96
ME2 had even more amazingly written characters, and the gameplay was far more solid. The central story did not add very much to the Reaper arc, but felt epic nonetheless. The suicide mission mechanic was brilliant, and I felt personally connected with every one of my squad. I must have replayed that game literally dozens of times, just to explore all the endless dialogue and discover as many variables as possible. ME2 is undoubtably my favorite video game of all time.

ME3: 72
As for ME3, the magic was gone. Sure, gameplay is near-perfect, and the multiplayer is a nifty diversion. Squad interaction was improved, as was mission banter. But the core plot was weak and rife with plotholes, not to mention the revolting ending. Dialogue, one of the best feature of the series, was drastically reduced, and the squad was significantly reduced, while numerous love interests and former squadmates were delagated to cameos. I'm currently puting my Canon Shepard to rest, and it isn't fun. So much squandered potential.

Mass Effect:90 (decent story, most squadmates served a purpose, had places that are worthy to be called hubs instead of glorified shopping malls)

Mass Effect 2 :40 (Space Pokemon with no purpose/ Dr. Shepard healing "issues"(including killing hordes of mercs) and becomes space jesus...)

Mass Effect 3: 60 (saving grace:Squad Interaction and playing as a biotic being fun again)

ME2 was unquestionably the game that made the series.

Mass Effect is the modern equivalent of The Godfather. The first was great, the second was fantastic, the third was "meh".

ME3: too complicated to give one rating
Overall story - 75
Tuchunka/Rannoch - 82
Other missions - 68
Character interactions - 100. They did this better in 3 than in any other game so far, not just their ME games.
Side "missions" - 0. Stupid premise, lame mechanic, added absolutely nothing to the story or the game itself.
ME2 Character treatment - 60. Those were some of my favorite characters, and they only got brief screen time at best. And heaven forbid if you actually romanced any of them, because you were SOL.
Multiplayer - 0. Never played, will never play. It could have been done very well to add to the overall game. Instead, it's a cheap transparent ploy to attract the shooter fanboys and to nickel and dime players with micro-transactions. One which consumed resources which would have been better spent on polishing what ME3 should have been about: adding dialog options, adding more choices to make within the dialogs, and writing a story that actually makes sense.
Original ending - 0. Actually, -100. It makes no sense, breaks the laws of its universe, and leaves you unfulfilled.
EC ending - 60. The epilogue narrations salvage the ending from the festering wasteland that it was in, and manage to instill them with a sense of emotion and completion. However, the ending is still based on a premise that doesn't follow anything in the rest of the story, still makes no sense, still relies on "space magic" in a number of places, and is still over all quite bad. A few bright spots cant fix the mess that it is.
Combat - I don't play for the combat, so I can't really rate it. It was fine to me.

ME - 85. Great story, but cover was clunky and inventory system needed work.
ME2 - 90. Improvements to combat greatly streamlined gameplay. Loss of customization the only real setback for me.
ME3 - 45. The story was what I bought ME2 for, and why I prepaid a CE copy of 3 in full. The story fell apart so spectacularly when it mattered most that the SP mode of the game was ruined. The lack of a competitive MP mode shows how little the decision makers understood of their market, namely that most people who play shooters and enjoy multiplayer only do so on competitive modes. Lore was sacrificed at many points, and holding onto it as a reason not to include a deathmatch mode helps no one, especially when the basis for MP was original designed to be competitive. Without the inclusion of MP, I'd probably have given the game a 65. But when you add more features, the new faults get counted against you.

1 was fantastic besides ****ty gameplay, 2 was perfection on all counts. I honestly don't know how they made 3 better but they did. 3 was godly, orgasmic, and insanely satisfying (post EC)
