 I have an i3 dual core 3.1
4 megs of ram
nvidia gts 450
I run windows 7 64 bit

All drivers and patches are up to date.

I am getting massive slowdown that is only fixed by rebooting my system. I can run the game, but after I am finished if I load it up again the slowdown often starts.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't want to reboot whenever I start a game.

How long are you playing before the slowdown happens? Is the game patched version 1.05?

The game is patched to 1.05 and it started about half way through the game.

Sorry, I mean to ask, how many minutes or hours are you playing in a given session before the slowdown becomes unbearable?

Also, have you installed any mods?

One other possibility... it could be that your system temperatures are spiking after a long period of play.  Consider installing a temperature monitoring system like speedfan or CPUID's HWMonitor (the free version) to see just how hot things are getting.

As stated earlier the game does not slow down the longer I play. What is happening is the game runs fine but if I shut it down and launch it again later it will be slow from the start. Rebooting fixes this, but I don't want to reboot after each play.

If you're experiencing some sort of memory leak, then it would not be cleared up by exiting the game; rather, it would not go away until after the machine is rebooted.  So again, how long are you typically playing the game?  An hour?  Three?  Longer?

Given the symptoms you report, it may be worth comparing the size of your Windows pagefile after a fresh booth and after you've played the game for a period, exited, restarted the game and experience the slowdown. Exit the game once you confirm its running slower. You can then check the pagefile by typing "dxdiag" in the Windows start menu and running that program.  It will be expressed as something like this...

Page file: 2257MD used, 8768MB available

If you find things are way more bloated when you experience the slowdown, then there are a few things to look at.  First, do you have a lot of free space left on your system hard drive?  If not, the slowdown may be caused as Windows constantly swaps old files for new ones.  Some third party mods may exacerbate this... so again, are you using any?

If you're not seeing a significant increase in pagefile size when you experience the slowdown, overheating could be an issue... not a likely one, but I suppose the GPU or CPU has time to cool down enough while the system reboots.
