 Hi guys.

Maybe some of you know me from the ME3 Multiplayer forum, anyway.

I was discussing with a friend about something, he says that Shogun 2 is the best strategy game in the world and I said that Age Of Empires II is better, so I decided to come here and open this thread to read your opinions about what Strategy game do you think is the best.

In my case is Age Of Empires II, i'll give the reasons later.

There's no "best." There are only opinions, preferred features.

I personally despised Age II for such nonsense as the monks and converting enemies. I liked Age III. However in my mind the Age games have a fatal flaw--unit caps.

C&C:G will forever be my favorite...unless BW tops it with C&C:G2.

Oh man, I almost forgot about C&C:G2.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

*ahem* sorry. But, yes. opinions.

Recently I've been playing the crap out of Crusader Kings 2. My favorites of this century have been insert name: Total war. Starcraft 2, Men of War is pretty good as well, although its not a looker. Company of Heroes as well.

Does anyone know if it is possible to stop an update in Steam? Trying to re-install Shogun 2 from a back and every time I install it it wants to download this freaking huge patch, I set in the properties for the game not to download the latest patch for the game however it just says "Update Paused" and wont let me play.

Chess, I guess? I do not play any of them myself; am more tactically minded, and not gifted in strategy.

Command And Conquer, Followed by Starcraft. I wish I could get into Civilization, but it's not quite my cup of tea.

Nope. Everytime you reinstall the game, you MUST update to the latest patch.

Anybody remember Rise of Nations? That was fun, especially the end-game where you try to balance nuking everybody to ashes with not causing a nuclear winter and dooming civilization.

I cannot recommend Defcon enough if you like living on the edge with nukes, another brillant strategy game.

I didn't like Rise of Nations. It was cool in its own way, but really nothing original about it. "Watered-down" Civ elements combined with as shallow AoE elements imo. Or is there anything I missed that was noteworthy?

As for on-topic, I think Heroes of Might and Magic 3 would get my vote. Other favorites include Civ 3/4 (haven't played 5), King's Bounty rebooted series, Heroes 2 (of Might and Magic) and from more recent ones I really digged the Warlock: Master of the Arcade demo (though it's supposedly a copy-cat of Civ 5).

Real-time strategy isn't as "strategic" as such, but I loved Age of Empires (not the third one), and also the original Starcraft. Others not so much.

Yeah I picked that up on Steam and played it for awhile. Is anybody still playing it?

Nice job recreating Stalker across most of Europe BTW.

So much this! =]

I'd also like to add Warcraft III, Supreme Commander and Pax Imperia to the list of real time strategy games I had insane amounts of fun playing, mostly online or via LAN. Good times :-)

TBS are also pretty awesome, MoO2, Rome:TW and Birth of the Federation being the best in my opinion.

Honorary mention goes out to Mega lo Mania on the SNES, because it was the first strategy game I played...and still sometimes play actually, my SNES still works! ^^
