Well, for my input, I think we can see that there are differing tastes as far as advertising of any kind is concerned, or specifically DLC for games. This is not unusual; some people don't mind advertising in movies and TV, even cable, which originally had no advertsing and that fact was its main draw from public TV.
I think the dialogue with Dryden in camp is fine, myself. It's certainly not any worse than the many ads for buying "additional maps" and other stuff for various FPSes (annoying to me because I do not play competitive games, and only care about the actual story of an FPS and other games).
It's worth recalling that TV began with specific companies sponsoring various shows. Spot advertising came much later, and placement advertising came even later. Ultimately, it's those ads that pay a large chunk of the cost of making the entertainment you are enjoying (or trying to enjoy, at any rate). The complaints about this process are analogous to saying that you want a beautiful wooden table without cutting down any trees. Wanting mass media entertainment without processes such as advertising to pay the cost of offering the entertainment is not possible, even though it might be nice if it could be done (not possible as long as we are based on a capitalistic socioeconomic system, anyway).
The real question for people to consider is: do I want entertainment products, or do I not want entertainment products? If it's the former, you will get advertising of many kinds. It isn't only your payment for the product that pays for it, and your payment may not even cover the majority of the costs of offering it to you. Some ads and other cost recovery processes may bother you, even greatly so, while other people aren't bothered by them at all, or are bothered less than you. One ad may offend you while someone else actually enjoys it. Etc. Asking for things that only cater to your preferences is like assuming that everyone shares your preferencs, which obviously is not true, so there's really not much point in asking for such a thing. Understandable on a purely personal desire level, perhaps, but still impractical with respect to anything that is intended for multiple people.
I'm sorry but I'm going to have to disagree here. For one, the viewer has not payed for the entertainment like you said, the sponsoring company has, whereas here we the players have payed for the product, there is no other company paying in order to get advertisement slots (though they are desperately trying to force their way in). Selling dlc is fine, but they should not feel entitled to force it down our throats via a product we have already paid for. It is not a case of "Put up with ads or get no entertainment" it's a case of a company going too far with it's ads, they should have just stuck with the ad in the launcher.
You may not have a problem with the ingame merchant, but I do, it irritates me, and I want it gone. Just because you don't find something annoying does not prevent others from finding it so, and I think it was very inconsiderate of EA or whoever it was that decided that it was acceptable to ****** people off like that.
