I mean Tom Daley is twice the size of him, is ripped and is an olympic standard waterborne athlete.
If I were Tom Daley, I'd be quite comfortable with that as a threat.
In all seriousness though, the perpetrator is clearly mental and twelve (and possibly parentally bereaved?) and warranted nothing more than a slap from a concerned family member/friend/member of the public.

Undeniably it has made it socially much more acceptable to act like uncreative annoying PITA idiot in internet though!

Word has long since gone through same inflation as "lol" or " RPG" . It gets used to describe so many different varyingly fun/irritating/dumb things that it means nothing in itself anymore.
Semantic breakage == epic.

I think we should have another name for the trolls who bring levity and jocularity. They’re harmless and fun. However, the ones who purposely inflame and anger and so on should remain named as trolls.
I's been tell'n ya Boyz along time now, We's Ain't trolls, Wez ORKs And Orks are made fer two things. Fight'n an Win'n. And don't you umies forget it!

I find them pretty funny. The Tom Daley joke was not fun but not bad either, worse has been said to my face, and that's from my friends! I take it on the chin and say something back just as bad.
People are just too sensitive and/or need to develop a sense of humour.
If a troll upsets you, you need to develop a thicker skin, you won't survive in this world if you don't.
exactly what i think

Trolls who simply post troll logic without the intention of insulting anyone? They're okay so long as their troll logic is funny. It's kinda like some of the trolling I've seen in the Dragon Age 2 forums. It's off-topic and or clearly for amusement such as this topic made by a very awesome handsome sexy person named Elton John is dead:
http://social.biowar.../index/13031281
Or this one:
http://social.biowar.../index/12070839
Or pretty much nearly every thread in the off-topic section by JasonRocker. They're almost always trolling threads which I gladly partake in.
If the trolling consists of senselessly insulting people though then it's not worth my time.

There are funny trolls that can sometimes get a positive reaction or can cause complete mind****ery to those who aren't in the know and then there are the bad/sick trolls, ie, like the OP mentioned.
Obviously I prefer the former.

"One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument"
In 99.9% of the cases, it's a pointless waste of time and isn't considered acceptable. On rare ocassions, there are some who showed such creativity in their "work" that although it still isn't acceptable, you can(in some bizarre manner) appreciate their "message". We call this the Gmag factor. cuz ya c ya gotta b prety cleva to tak bad rightin liek dis an mak it a sinsashun on da webz. It takes a certain panache and charm to build a(relatively) positive reputation from something in that avenue. The Permaban is still justified, and yet, the legacy lives on. That is rather impressive, to be honest. Perhaps it's just my mischievious side talking - I'm confident that quite a few individuals will disagree.

What? His username is Ghost Lightning. That avatar CLEARLY shows a lightning bolt first, THEN a ghost.

Yeah, you think it's funny now, but what if an assassin comes for a Lightning Ghost, and you send him to Ghost Lightning instead?
You killed an innocent man, and probably cost that assassin his job. Not so funny now is it?
