I absolutely LOVE that the homosexual aspect was swept aside for issues that actually matter: the defects in the endings and the product itself.

Bioware and gaming media might call the ME3-Haters entitled, immature brats, but the fact that none of us said boo about the same sex relationships should maybe give you a hint, that we're not just raging blindly.

I love it.

why they didn't "convert" Ash to lesbian as well then?

I KNOW RIGHT?!

Ashley was totally a case of "huh. I had never looked at it this way". You expanded her horizons in terms of politics in ME1... I was looking forward to expanding them further in all sorts of senses :o

I think it was because then femshep would have 5 lesbian options and 2 straight, which is even further from what is the case with man shep, who, IIRC, had 9 straight and 2 gay

Gotta cater to the boys y'know.

Can you imagine the outcry if Ashley cheated on Shepard, Miranda had moved on since ME2, and Jack got space cancer?

BSN 101 - when a "i love ____" topic is created, immediately after segues a "i hate ____" thread and vice versa.

that should give you an idea of what the reaction was like.

To be fair, that image of Traynor does have a very thick outline.

As for the OP: I saw some pretty unpleasant trolling, but nothing unexpected. I guess it depends on what you're used to, though.
I myself was happy with how they (Bioware) dealt with things, and I agree with TAO regarding Liara counting, but am glad they gave the guys someone (well, two choices) as well.
I guess Bioware took an easy route with Liara in many ways, what with the Asari only having one gender to begin with. Well, that and the fact she was a cute-looking human woman with blue skin and strange head thingies. I can never get enough of head thingies.

Well, i absolutely plan on covering this in my essay.

Call me harsh, but i am going to try and argue that a large reason that bioware created the asari was so that a) they didn't have to design females of other species and B) They could argue away the less intelligent of same sex critics in me1 by saying 'it's not actually a lesbian relationship' although for femshep, it actually is

What's the purpose of your question? Do you want to start another pointless war? You realize that in a minute some non-tolerant people will show up and then you'll experience how it was back then.

My worries about s/s romances were premature. They pull them off well imo. I don't think I'll use them in the future but their existence is not a problem for me. Have a nice day  ;)

Personally I think it was handled very well, and think that it shows games "growing up" a bit. ME has always had those relationship dynamics though, so it's not that new. I do understand why people felt "off" about Kaiden, but not everyone talks about their orientation, especially in a work environment so his being bisexual may not be so out of left field as folks think. ;)

And if everyone is sensible and ignores them like they deserve, it wont derail the thread.

Well yes, Straight, Male Gamers will always be catered to the most in the game industry, as annoying as it is

I am doing 'field research' for a comprehensive essay on the presentation of S/S romances across the mass effect series and their stance in the gaming community today and in the past

I thought it was cool that not only were s/s options put in, but s/s exclusive options.

Though I am also one of those annoyed at the Kaidan rewrite.

It's basically what you expected, lots of threads about ruining established characters, blah blah. Bunch of positive and negative.

Pretty much this.  Also I love your avatar.  One of my favorite parts from one of my favorite episodes in that series.

What about FemShep and Liara? That's a S/S relationship. I think they were even planning on making Ashley Williams bisexual (shame, because then my FemShep would have a better reason to keep her around). Also, there's Dragon Age...

I still get a chuckle from "Dude I can only reject Anders as a guy by being mean to him and getting dreaded RIVALRY!".

Never mind the fact that Anders as a character is clingy and has bad social skills meaning it makes perfect sense to have to spell out things for him.

Only idiots and trolls are against same sex relationships.
So whilst many people are fine and happy that bioware implmented them, there will always be a small vocal minority against them

Wow.  Tolerance in all its glory.

If someone doesn't agree with you, they are obvioulsy a troll and an idiot, because you know, only your world view is the right one.

My only real issue with all this sex in the games is did it really have to be there to further the story?  It seems to have become an increasing focus of them series.  The first one, you never really would have noticed it unless you persued it.  By 3, I felt like everyone, male and female alike were trying to come on to me. It got creepy.  Then again, I'm an idiot and a troll, so what do I know?

It depends on the issue, really. Some people don't agree that they shouldn't be allowed to randomly kill people. Not all opinions are necessarily worthy.

One of my sheps romanced steve, and I'm a straight male IRL. So yeah, I thought they were implemented beautifully.

No one is obliged to tolerate intolerance.

Not all opinions are equal, either. You're entitled to your opinion, of course. But it's possible you might just be flat wrong.

The people who have issues with S/S tend to be homophobic bigots, therefore, idiots and trolls.

I completely respect your opinion, but you seem to want to discuss whether there should be any kind of romance in video games, which is really not the point of the thread

Ah thank you for enlightening me.  So not agreeing with homosexuality is equal to wanting to randomly kill people.

I told you OP. That's just the beginning. Don't let him/her provoke you. It's will be the best for all of us and this thread.

That's refreshing and thank you.

As I edited in my message.  It (the sexual stuff) didn't bother me so much being in the game from 1 but by the time we got to 3 it seemed like they (the writers) were trying too hard.  It got creepy, and not just from the homosexual stuff, it felt like no matter who I talked to (with few exceptions) they started coming on to me.  Like the normandy suddenly became a pickup bar.

Why there were no BDSM relationships?
