The Tantalus drive is top secret.
So let's put the alien scavenger right next to it and in the presence of an engineer who is a) awed by her abilities, enthusiastic at her presence and c) likes to yell the intricate details of the drive's functions within earshot of her.
What did you think would happen?
THIS
Also, you as Shepard gave her full access to the ship... and she had a lot more reasons to steal the tech on ME2 than on 1, considering Cerberus story with the Quarians... and there is a reason why you put her in CHARGE (Remember Gaby and Ken call her BOSS.
If you didnt saw that coming... I was counting on it since ME1, really... and that scene only brought a smile to my face "Well done, Tali"
Yup, I wasn't surprised at all and was a teensy bit impressed.

Or the most tech-savvy race in the galaxy came up with it on their own.
Most tech-savvy? Ehhhhh. When it comes to scavenging, recycling and repurposing things yes.
I'd think the Geth are more tech savvy overall than their Quarian creators. Then there's the humans, who developed it on their own (okay, with Turian help, but still).
The Asari probably could've had it before anyone thanks to their secret Prothean tech, but were too busy dancing and stripping instead of being commandos. Or something. I forget how the joke went exactly, just that I was SUDDENLY VERY ANGRY AT JOKER for some reason.

At the same time she didn't like the idea of Legion transmitting information about the quarrians and their war preparations.
Still I like her, but I did find it a little bit disturbing, but with the reapers out there it didn't seem like a real problem.

So all those stories about Quarians being thieving scavengers were right?

not really sure why it's secret I mean Shepard is preparing for a war, you'd think he'd give allies what tech he had if it could help them prepare for the reapers
Still, the point is that she didn't ask.

Pretty much this. After all the trust Shepard put into her (even saving her father's good name and saving her from exile, if this path is chosen) she still doesn't 'fess up to it. Even with potential death around the corner from the Omega-4 relay.

Regardless of whether the specs she (most likely) stole were Alliance or Cerberus property, it's simply another reason to dislike her.
Hey now, no reason to hate. Let's try to remember the real enemy:

In my Paragon playthrough. I had no interest in helping cover up her father illegal experiments. Yet, for the sake of "biowares" view of Moral Philosophy, I had to assist Tali........just so I can keep full Paragon playthrough

But the problem then arises, how did she do this if she was hanging out on the Normandy? Surely we would have detected her leaving or something. Its not like she would or could steal Kasumi's stealth tech or some other silly explan--

Yup. She also (unwittingly) assisted her father in illegal experiments, then demanded that you help cover it up.
What's she hiding behind that mask...?
Troll face?

Nah. Just a rushed and photoshopped stock image. THIS is why the face was never revealed. It was always a 2d photograph.

Even the shuttle has it. Heck,Cerberus had it since game 2, and Derperus isn't exactly known for keeping things subtle. They probably broadcasted the plans with their docking requests.
So yes, obviously you should kill off an entire fictional race in response to some wild speculation. ( 。 ヮ゚)
