Another think I've been thinking of when playing Warden's Keep is that Avernus is not just OLD his ANCIENT all thanks to Blood magic I believe the game said he was at least a century old if not older and apperently never heard the calling leading me to Believe that my Amell Mage could in theory live near damn forever too if she learned it and studied how to gain this near immortality from the man him self though I'm guessing there is a moral price to pay

Solona Amell ftw after i discovered she/he is related to hawke it just seems pointless to play any other origin at least if you want to properly connect the dots

Avernus says that he had a short time left to live, though he did live a very long time due to blood magic. He wasn't going to live forever.

This could be a nice rp concept if you don't like the thought of your warden dying young, from the taint. Your warden will just need to sacrifice others in order to live longer.

I also feel the same...since DA2 is about mage vs Templar, Solona Amell have relationship with Hawke, when i replay DA:O, i don't feel like want to play other origin anymore

I think Amell family have a big part in the whole picture of DA world

If the Warden is an Amell, the Champion is an Amell too...doesn't that makes Amell blood line is somewhat hero/messiah blood? if bethany or Carver becomes a grey Warden, isn't that makes the Order have family ties and maybe establish somekind of elite blood line in the order?

What if both meet together, isn't that a big family reunion?

I just wonder how Bethany reaction if she learn that her cousin is a blood mage  (if the Warden is a blood mage)

Solona, Hawke, Bethany or Carver joining together either for good or evil...it will be epic

And so Amell family can shape the world of Thedas.

Correct me if i'm wrong but Avernus never stated exactly how he prolonged his life. Maybe it's not as dirty as you think.

Man the more I think about blood magic the more I realize how stupid people are for condemning it and not seeing it's potential. I'm glad this kind of stuff isn't real. My friends tell me that i'd be a supervillian if it was lol.

Come on, it's Avernus. The man was a nudge away from Josef Mengele.

Spirit Healers commune with a spirit for healing, so i think there will no problem about darkspawn taint. In DA2, Spirit Healers can regenerate health so fast, by means they will never got sick.

Blood Mage can commune with demons for any bargain, let say to took away the taint. Merill have done it for the mirror, removing the taint from the mirror, in similar way sure can be done for Grey Warden.

The taint seemed to make Avernus immortal, while he seemed to use blood magic to slow down the process of the taint turning him into a ghoul. If there was a way to prevent a Grey Warden from completely turning into a ghoul, it would be a method to live a long life. Of course, Zathrian also used blood magic to live centuries, so there are other methods for a blood mage to use if you're attempting to live for over a century or two. Given the correspondence between Avernus and The Warden, it's possible The Warden (if he or she is a blood mage) might have learned the same technique Avernus used to hold off on ghoulification, and therefore live centuries without succumbing to the Calling.

In theory, your Amell Warden could use the same process to live centuries.

Also, you seemed to have really mirrored Flemeth with your avatar.

Avernus actual did hear the Calling.  You can read it in his notes around his lab it makes reference to it as well as starting to see the Black City in his dreams.  He's been able to supress it probably by the same means he's extended his life for so long.

Though if you're looking for immortallity you can always just pull a Zathrian.  Bind a powerful spirit from the Fade into something in Thedas using blood magic in such a way as your life is forever bound to it.  Either of you can still die but so long as both of you live neither will die of old age (or age at all perhaps, it's hard to tell with elves).

Edit: Damn ninjas

He's over 200 years old when you meet him, and he has begun to hear his Calling. Not in the same way other Wardens hear it, but certainly he's hearing the Call of the Old Gods. But through his use of blood magic on himself -- as all of his Warden allies died 90 or so days into his entrapment in the Tower, and from then on he was on his own -- he managed to keep the Taint from taking over his body.

I'd conjecture that a further perk from the use of blood magic to prolong his lifespan for so long was that he was able to retain his mind. Obviously this happened, but I mean that had he not done that all he would be able to focus on would be hearing the song and listening to it. But since he used blood magic, he was still able to think clearly. And so he knows that the Black City holds some answers to the questions he's trying to unravel.

Assuming your Amell Warden is a blood mage and lets Avernus live to continue his research -- preferably without you being his judge so he can work as needed -- then yes your Amell Mage could live for just as long if not longer then Avernus. Perhaps even communicate with him and work closely with him, making sure that his research is given a lot of attention.

Now, there is a choice in Awakening the expansion that will dramatically effect Avernus' research. I don't know if you've played that, but it's worth mentioning.

As for a moral price to pay, not really. As I said above Avernus was able to live as long as he did by using blood magic to manipulate the tainted blood that flows through his veins. Remember, 90 days into when he was trapped in the Tower all of his Warden comrades were dead. At this point, he was on his own, and he continued his research.

Whether the Taint grants Wardens immortality at the cost of becoming a Ghoul is unknown. We know the Taint sustains the Darkspawn, but we've never really seen how long a Warden can survive after becoming a Ghoul, since the method they become tainted is different from how non-Wardens become tainted.

You can only take two specializations in Origins. Once you boot up Awakening, you can take a third though you also have 2 additional specialization types to choose from alongside the ones you saw in Origins.

Also, I like the Flemeth look your Warden has.

I've heavily modded this play through of Solona as i lost my origina lsave game and i needed the motivation to replay for a DA 2 Import she's actually using Flemeth DA 2 Armour and Hair since my avatar is a imagen from the game I've played DA 1 like 20 times ..... it gets somewhat repative after a while being a Flameth look alike is motivation to play for me her face is 20 % Flemeth and 20 % Morrigan the rest is Default she also has Flemeth's Eye's used vanshing Staff mod because i was got tired of staffs clipping into my flemeth robes so she only takes it out during combat

Flemeth :Remember back to your early teachings. "All who gain power are afraid to lose it." Even the Circle Mage and the Templars.

Solona Amell : The Circle Mage use their power for good.

Flemeth :Good is a point of view, Amell. The Apostates and the Circle Mage are similar in almost every way, including their quest for greater power.

Solona Amell : The Apostate rely on their passion for their strength. They think inward, only about themselves.

Flemeth : And the Circle Mage don't?

Solona Amell : The Circle Mage are selfless... they only care about others.

Flemeth : [looking a little frustrated] Did you ever hear the tragedy of Andraste the Wise?

Solona Amell : No.

Flemeth :I thought not. It's not a story the Circle would tell you. It's an Apostate legend. Andraste was a Blood Mage who lived many years ago. She was so powerful and so wise that she could use Blood Magic to influence the blood to create life... She had such a knowledge of Blood Magic that she could even keep the ones she cared about from dying.

Solona Amell : She could do that? She could actually save people from death?

Flemeth :Blood Magic is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

Solona Amell : What happened to her?

Flemeth : She became so powerful... the only thing she was afraid of was losing her power, which eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, she taught her apprentice everything she knew, and then one night, her apprentice killed her in her sleep and then burned her. It's ironic that she could save others from death, but not herself.

Solona Amell : Is it possible to learn this power?

Flemeth : Not from the Circle.

If you import a save where Avernus is left to experiment it is heavily implied that he is close to finding a cure for the taint in wardens too.

well a cure for all wardens would be preferable to just benefiting one person which is why i let him continue his research not sure what part of awakening would influence his research though I do notice most people have no faith in their walls in their savegames they always burn the city not realizing that Vigil Keep will withstand the attack while you save the city assuming you upgraded it properly and had wade upgrade all your soldiers to silverite

Nice DA spin on Star Wars.  I like it.

I always save Amaranthine, as it needs more help than Vigil's Keep, which I always fully upgrade.

Solona Amell: I'm going to turn you over to the Templar!

Flemeth: Of course you would. But you can't be sure of their intentions.

Solona Amell: I will learn the truth of all this quickly.

Flemeth : You have much wisdom, Amell. But if I were to die, all the knowledge you seek about the true nature of magic will be lost with me. Learn the power of Blood Magic, Amell. The power to save your life...

***********************************

Flemeth : Be careful of the Circle, Amell. Only through me can you achieve a power greater than any Mages. Learn to know Blood Magic and you will be able to save your life from certain death.

Solona Amell : What did you say? How do you know that...?

Flemeth: Use my knowledge, I beg you.

Solona Amell: You're the Old God!

*******************************************************

Gregoir: [has Flemeth subdued] I'm going to put an end to this, once and for all!

Solona Amell: You can't. She must stand trial.

Gregoir: She has mind control the Templars and Mages. She is too dangerous to be left alive!

Flemeth: [exhausted and disfigured] But, I'm too weak. Don't kill me.

Solona Amell: That's not the Chantry way. She must be made Tranquil.[Gregoir ignores Amell, still intending to kill Flemeth]

Solona Amell: I need her! [Gregoir raises his sword]

Solona Amell: NO! [Amell draws her Spellweaver, cutting off Gregoir arm, then Flemeth Cone of Lightning Gregoir]

Flemeth : Powaaaaaaahhhhhh!!! Unlimited powwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!

Solona Amell: What have I done?

Flemeth: You are fulfilling your destiny, Amell. Become my apprentice. Learn to use Blood Magic. There's no turning back now.

Solona Amell
: I will do whatever you ask. Just help me remove the taint in my blood. I can't live with it. I don't want to die horribly in the Deep Roads or becoming Brood Mother

Flemeth
: To cheat death is a power only one has achieved through centuries of the study of Blood Magic. But if we work together, I know we can discover the secret to eternal life

************************************************

Irving: I have failed you, Amell. I have failed you.

Solona Amell: I should have known the Circle were plotting to take over. Flemeth has showed me the true ways of magic.

Irving: Amell, Flemeth is evil! Blood Magic is evil!.

Solona Amell
: From my point of view, it is the Circle who are evil.

Irving: Then you really are lost!

Solona Amell: [raises her Spellweaver] This is the end for you... my former master.

**************************************************************

Flemeth: Once more, Tevinter Imperium will rule Thedas! And... we shall have peace. :)

I would say the old crone is most likely pretending just like sidious and she's way more powerful then you the warden and hawke's journey seems to be a series of tests to shape them into the needed power level for some grand plans remember her statement to saying shes more powerful then the warden if you question her before leaving with Morrigan "no one person in all of thedas has enough power to stop the blight" Flemeth fills the puppet master role in the DA universe i think shes most likely playing Morrigan too she never had any intentions of taking her body she's merely pushing morrigan into the role flemeth needs her to be

The first time Flemeth meet the Warden she said "But so much uncertain about you...but i believe do i? yes...indeed i do..."

When meet Hawke she said "plunged into the chaos you fight, the world shake before you"

Flemeth somehow can read the future, the same like Palpatine

Flemeth is just awesome. Whether she's an antagonist or simply an old woman with a penchant for helping random protagonists, remains to be seen.

She also tells you don't hesitate to leap into the chaos of change...

She was telling you to keep Anders alive and side with mages ;)
