 Hi everyone.
For some reason, both my dragon age origins ultimate edition saves are gone. It was purchased on steam not that long ago. It is not on my computer ( I bought it as a gift to my girlfriend) so I don't have the computer specs on hand, but I assure the computer should not be the issue. It is a brand new computer, runs at i7 core, dedicated video card, all that stuff. But yesterday, all 35 hours of gameplay suddenly disapeared. I checked the hard drive and everything is still there, but the game won't recongnize them. I checked steam, and it said that the saves were corrupted and the game was unplayable. But she's playing a new game right now, which works fine. Please tell me what is causing this, and what I can do to get the games back, if possible.
A similar problem happened with her cd copy of mass effect 2. The textures are horribly corrupted, and the framerate suddenly plummets for no reason, when it used to work fine. It also crashes if you try to go to the main menu. You can still make a new game just fine, but all the old stuff is dead. What's going on?

First thing I usually ask, then dealing with more than one users on the same machine-- are you using different Windows user accounts? In other words, do you log into Windows with a different username and password than she does?

I'm typing this on my own computer. She has a separate account on a separate machine.

This is the person with said broken games. Hi!
Now a second problem with dragon age. I have the ultimate edition, which should have the dlc, but now it's all gone. I've also noticed that the forum uploaded all of the old characters, even though in the start menu, it says none are there.

And with the steam thing. If I click "View support information after selecting the game and stuff, it says "this game is currently unavailable ( corrupt game files)"

There should be a feature in the Steam client that will validate the integrity of the game files and fix them. I don't have Steam, so I am not sure exactly how to access it. You may consider posting on the Steam forums.

Do you still have a 'Characters' folder in your "Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age" folder? If so, I would make sure to create a copy of that folder somewhere else on the hard drive (outside the Bioware folder), then completely uninstalling (delete local content) and reinstalling the Dragon Age game with the Steam client. There are some pointers for problems with DLC in the Steam forums (since their installation is a bit different than retail), but that's what I did when I had missing DLC in my Steam version of DA:O.

Once you reinstall the game, if the DLC are showing up and working, you can copy your Characters back to the Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age folder and see if they load propoerly.

Okay! I'll check the character folder first.

I reinstalled the game with the characters folder taken out, and nothing's changed. My DLC is still gone. Also, when the game reinstalled, it already had my character in there, so I get the feeling that the game didnt completely delete everything.

Hmmm... I'm trying to recall exactly what I did...

Try these steps:

1) Make sure you have the Characters folder copied somewhere else first (and make sure it has the contents you expect it to have, like a folder with several saves slots in it) (bolded for emphasis) :)
2) Delete local content of DA:O using the Steam Client
3) Delete the c:\\users\\yourname\\Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age folder entirely (this makes sure that you will begin from a clean slate)
4) Go to the Steam common folder (by default located in the C:\\Program Files\\Steam folder) and make sure there is no 'dragon age' folder in it
5) Reboot the computer and/or use CCleaner to clear your computer's cache
6) Re-install Dragon Age via the Steam Client
7) FIRST make sure the DLC shows up properly (if still buggy, this fix seems to work for other people)
8) Once the DLC is showing again, then copy your Characters folder back into C:\\Users\\yourname\\Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age folder

There are more ways to fix the DLC that the one I list, but that seems to be a good fix. You might need to google for further fixes if that one doesn't work.

Good luck!
