On one hand it is made by one of my favourite companies( Obsidian ) which is known for it's great stories and writing, decent gameplay and lots of bugs

But Ithe opinions I've been hearing about DS3 are the opposite of what I've stated above( good gameplay, almost no bugs and a rather simplistic and uninteresting story )

Your thoughts?

I had fun with it, but I don't mind linear action RPG's. Story is a bunch of blah, blah, blah. Most of the hate comes from it deviating from it's roots.

I like it and the DLC was pretty meaty.

The thing you've heard about it being the opposite of what you stated is generally true (though I think the story is still pretty good to follow though it's nothing amazing).

It's not really a game that will stay with you for being amazing but it is fun to play. The gameplay is like a mix of more action-based games like Devil May Cry and more classic action-RPGs and in my opinion it works very well.

So yeah, I would say it's a fun game to play but not particularly memorable. And yep, if you do pick it up, make sure to get the DLC also.

I think this phrase is very well chosen, and I'm just going to leave it heavily emphasised as my suggestion. If you can agree with the bolded part, get it.

Dont get it if you are going to play it on PC without controllers. Game has really clumsy controls.
Its has some entertaintment potantial if you play it controllers with a friend but as others said its very linear.

I bought it for $5. It's worth that.

Exactly, I bought it cheap too.

So my suggestion is, buy it if you find it cheap.

The party size is down to 2 from 4, so I did not play it.

I held off buying it until it hit that price during the Steam Sale. Its hard to believe I still felt I paid too much for it. I've already uninstalled it.

But since I got the first two Dungeon Sieges with that same sale at least I got some value out of my purchase.

Its missing nearly everythting that made the first two games fun, and nearly everything you may have enjoyed from previous Obsidian games.

Also, you need to have a very high tolerance for them saying 'Jeyne Kassender" in full nearly every sentence of the Dialogue. (I counted her name said in full at least 15 times before I made it out of the intro.)

That they didn't even include the Mule makes them worthy of a flogging. Save your money and get Torchlight II instead.

Yeah, its really downgraded if you compare it previous games, lowered party size, shallow multiplayer and uniteresting  gameplay.

Lol at "Jeyne Kassynnder" :D  I really beat her good at the end just becuse that reason you mentioned. "JK this JK that..."
it makes me sad i that missing first games on steam sales :(

I have absolutely zero understanding for how anyone can like the two previous Dungeon Siege games. They represent the absolute worst that action-RPGs have to offer, completely mindless games.

I can understand though being angry that they changed the formula (such as taking away the party-based type of gameplay instead of improving upon it) but how anyone can actually call the first two games *good* in any meaning of the word is completely beyond me. *Those* are the very definition of shallow and mindless gaming.

Just because games are PC only and are now a few years old does not make them good or deep. DS1 and 2 are complete trash.

The essence of what made the first two games fun:

1. Character Creation.
2. classless system. Pick up whatever you want and use it to get better at it.
3. Companions who also go by #2. Pick the ones you like best and build them how you please.
4. Seamless world. No loading screens whatsoever. Go from world to dungeon and back again.
5. Fun Loot! The most important part of any dungeon romp.
6. Mule/Pets who haul #5 for you enabling you to get even more #5

Dungeon Siege was all about distilling the most fun parts of games like Diablo and improving on them. No one claimed it was a deep roleplaying experience. Just a fun one. Like Diablo with less restrictions.

DS3 has none of the above list. They removed everything that defined the series (the Fun bits) and stick you with boring, badly voiced predefined characters, Nonsensical character development and a badly written storyline. And the control/camera system were just terrible.

Again, not saying the previous games were well written, but if you're going to remove nearly all player choice/customization in favor of predefined characters and voiced storyline you should at least tell a good one. Something Obsidian is usually pretty good with, so very odd misfire here.

I think people that hate DS1&2 aren't into action RPGs in the first place.

Funny enough after Dungeon Siege GPG went in this direction themselves with Space Siege. That's the game DS3 is most familiar to, even though it's fantasy and has better writing.

Best bet for a DS-like action RPG is one of the Sacred games (albeit it's not party based).

I bought the game a few years ago and finally got around to playing it. Despite being locked in to one of 6 predefined characters, and the game being somewhat linear, I find the story intriguing, and I'm quite enjoying reading the lore and history the game-world presents. The cinematics don't hold a candle to DA2, but the story itself seems simpler but more compelling - the fall and rise of the 10th Legion.

I find the combat and the boss battles a damn side more fun than Dragon Age 2 (didn't play the DLCs). I played a fighter in DA2 (PS3), and Lucas in DS3 (PC w/controller) so the controls seem very similar, and the combat is comparable.

Plus, gotta love a game with a boss named Dapper Old Gent.

[EDIT] Just finished - Really REALLY enjoyed the story. Listening to that haunting main menu melody right now.
