Gorim and Jowan are the best characters among the main Origin companions. Jowan's kind of a whiny jerk, but he's reasonably well developed.
Did anyone notice that if you send Jowan to the Circle Tower after Red Cliffe, at the Landsmeet someone mentions that Lohgain's men rescued him before he got there? I really thought Jowan was going to come back at some point as a major villain, or have some bigger part to play, but it didn't happen.
Maybe they are saving him for the sequel?
Rescued? Surely that would be kidnapped wouldn't it?
Actually that just made me think about my current playthrough where I purged the circle of the mages and even despite that and Greagoir's refusal, Dagna still went to help out. Also I told Eamon to send Jowan to the Circle, completely forgot that I'd purged it. Shame if he gets taken again on route, would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when he walked in and Greagoir was there to greet him. His death would come swfitly me thinks.
Going back to your sequel idea, maybe, but I just can't see it.
On-topic, am surprised no one has mentioned Ser Gilmore, my female human noble had a thing for him. Leske is probably my favourite though.
re: the Jowan "rescued" comment, I think they meant when Loghain's men kidnapped--or rescued, depending on your perspective--him from the Templars when he originally escaped after the events of the mage origin, not after you turn him in to the Circle after Redcliffe. The Templars caught up with him--he didn't have that much of a head start, after all--and Loghain's men snatched him from the Templars. Loghain then proposed that he poison Arl Eamon.

So far I've only played through the mage and human noble origin. I thought ser gilmore (I hope that was the name?) from the human origin was quite interesting as well. I read somewhere that his body can be found in Howes torture room in fort Draken? If that is the case, I would hope to be able to interact with it sometime. I mean: you grew up with that guy and he kinda saved your life... You should be able to recognize him imo.
You get a split-second glimpse of someone who looks like Ser Gilmore during a Ft. Drakon cutscene. It's unclear whether that's actually Ser Gilmore, or they just re-used the character model. There's no way to interact with him.
I actually hope it's not him: a slow death under torture would be a sadder fate for Ser Gilmore than a quick death defending the castle of his lord. He deserves better.

Oghren : Ehhehh... say Gorim, you have been our leader's second for some time now right?
Gorim : That has been common knowledge, why?
Oghren : So ... do you do like ...prepare his/her ladies/men for him/her?
Gorim : Do I ...what?!
Oghren : You know...make sure she's/he's ready ... Its not that far off from butt kissing and boot licking...and its still using your lips and tongue...
Gorim : *sighs* I am just gonna pretend the next hurlock is you.

I didn't get far in my Dalish origin either. She's at Ostagar at the moment. Did I read that right? Tamlen ambushes my PC? How, when, where, and why?

Gorim, tell the thread that you're the best origin companion.
That he is, for sure. Smart, loyal and a good friend. For a moment I feared that Gorim too had been bought, which would have made the betrayal scene complete and unbearable -- then I felt guilty for ever doubting his loyalty. The betrayal and farewell scenes are definitely moving. I like Gorim better than half of the proper party members and would certainly much rather have him than the more stereotypical Oghren.
Momma Cousland comes in second. What's not to like about a prim old lady who hasn't forgotten how to kick nine kinds of arse and gets mad instead of wailing uselessly when her family is killed?
The others I really don't care about.

I liked Tamlen and Soris. I also liked Lily, she was committed to her cause, tough, and decidedly non-whiny. However, the winner is Mom, what a tough lady she was.

I'm about to do the last of the Treaty quests

Though it's a close call, for it was quite funny running around with your butt-kicking noble Mum, too.

I really liked Leske when I come at the proving arena's entrance and I threaten the guard. Well, this actually happens if you threaten anyone around.
Also, having Jowan in the party would be sweet. Heck, what mage at level 2 or 3 has enough power to take down 2 templars, the Knight commander, the PC and the first enchanter just by hurting his own hand!

Gorim and Leske are great too. Gorim in particular is a perfect party member. He cool, intelligent, and never questions your actions. What more do you want?
Also, I just love those "Gorim, why is this person speaking to me?" and "Gorim, I don't remember addressing this person." PC lines. I always pick them, and it would be hilarious to have them available throughout the rest of the game.

As far as I remember, Jowan was approached by Loghain/his agents with the poisoning offer because he was Connor's tutor and had access to the Arl. It was Loghain taking advantage of a pre-existing situation rather than creating it.JosieJ wrote...
