 Okay so here's the deal...

I was starting my first insanity playthrough with an imported character... one that I've already beat Mass Effect 1 with. I started as a level 55 femShep infiltrator.

The ISSUE: I changed the difficulty in the main menu to Insanity thinking that it would apply to my next 'new game' ... how wrong I was. :pinched:

I'm four hours into the game and I went to change my squad power usage setting to Defence Only... then I saw that my Combat Difficulty level was still on Veteran! (the level I beat the game on with this character).

Am I completely screwed for the Insanity achievement? Do I have to start over? Or can I still switch it now and get the achievement?

Please tell me it's the latter... thanks for your help. :crying:

Well four hours in you're probably hosed. You can change the difficulty up until you activate the beacon on Eden Prime and still get the achievement.

I really appreciate the response and I mean no disrespect, but are you sure? Have you confirmed this yourself? I really don't want to waste 30 + hours (I'm also trying to get the 60th level achievement so i plan to do everything) and find out that it's not true.

Thanks!

Grey Ranger is correct. You need to change the difficulty in-game. Changes made in the main menu only apply to new games, imports start with the difficulty the imported game had.

This was discussed extensively in the (now defunct) old BioBoards when the game first came out.

So sorry man, you'll have to start over :P. That's my biggest fear right now as I am doing an Insanity playthrough also.. I usually check the difficulty before every mission, just to be sure it's on Insanity (I'm paranoid haha).. I can understand your frustration though :P.

You can change the difficulty at any time during the Eden Prime mission without affecting any achievements. However, before you examine the beacon you must set the desired difficulty, and then keep it there for the rest of your playthrough, in order to get the hardcore or insanity achievements.

Now I'll add my 2 cents: my insanity playthrough was a vanguard, imported at level 57, with all the best gear and upgrades. As such, the combat was almost ridiculously easy, I didn't even bother taking cover most of the time, just ran around throwing powers and punches until the enemies died. Unfortunately, the enemies had so much armor and health that the battles took *forever* to finish; I would stand there pumping round after round of point-blank shotgun blasts into a merc (on whom Warp was active) and it still took about a minute for him to die.

TL;DR - Insanity is not challenging for an imported character, but is a very long grind.

I did it once for the achievement, and all my subsequent playthroughs are on Casual.
