A big part of any RPG for me is getting to make my character. My own PC to experience the events of the game. Not only do I want to choose hoe they act and their attitude but I want to make them look how I want to. While Da2 had a decent CC I would really like them to expand on it some in DA3. Im not looking for Dragons Dogma or Skyrim in depthness here, just some little improvements.

First off it would be nice to see more options for hair and especially facial hair. None of the facial hair really fit my taste in DA2 although that could have been more the art style then actual options.

Next my biggest issue here is to add some more facial options. Make some more tattoo designs, add blood marks ( just cause they are cool), let us add scars (to make our character feel more bada**). I always found it funny that in a game like DA where the PC is always in the middle of life or death combat that there was no option to make them look more experienced  and less polished. It would also be cool to to have accessories (ie. Earrings, facial accessories, etc.)

Add more colors. If I want to make my persons hair purple and his eyes orange let me just cause its funny lol. Just vary the color spectrum and let us experiment.

I’m sure other have their own ideas of what to add but here are a few of mine. Anything to make the main character feel more personal is good to me. I don’t think it would cost to many resources to add some more distinctive and personal CC options.Posted Image

Dragon Age isn't a Japanese game and if you want to play a serious character you're not going to want to have weird hair colours :/. Plus people make hair colour mods for the game for you to use if you ever want an unrealistic hair colour (I wouldn't be able to take that character seriously or even play through the game if it had pink hair for an example...)

The customisation we get in Dragon Age is pretty extensive considering it's from a Western game maker. It's no where as nearly as extensive as a character creator from an Eastern game maker (SEGA Phantasy Star Online 2, check out how many options you have for that one!)

But the biggest problem with a fully customisable character is that you have less impact on the overall story. Which is evident in DA2 and Origins (Darkspawn chronicles tells you that the story would push forward with or without you and DA2 steam rolled through with no say from you).

Customisable characters are good and all, but it would be even better if we could have our characters but have a special personality for them too :).

For the most part, the hair and tattoo options were copy/pasted straight from Origins, and the few new hair options looked ridiculous. If Bioware going to recycle the cc from game to game, at least add in the beards that were unique to dwarves, as they have much more personality than the human variety, and I'd like more tattoo options that cover the face, similar to what Shady Corebit and Sigrun had.

I tend to replay my rpgs alot, and it would be nice to have my various pcs look unique, but have an appearance that I can tolerate looking at over the coarse of the playthrough. As it is, most of my characters look 99% alike, with the only differences being hair and eye color. When I get an appearance that I can accept, I tend to keep going back to it.

Hopefully DA3 has something similar to the Mirror of Transformation from the Black Emporium, as that item alone has prevented many restarts from me. Many of my Origins playthroughs didn't last past Ostagar, as that scene with the dying soldier in the Korcari Wilds was often the first close-up of my pc's face.

Btw, being able to fully customize my character's appearance doesn't mean that they need to have less impact on the overall story. Their appearance is just cosmetic, and only their body needs to be present for the story to continue. Being able to customize my character makes them feel more like my character and helps with immersion, as difficult as that may be with such a heavily story-driven rpg.

I would absolutely welcome more options to make characters look unique, within realistic limits. I think it would also be very neat if they were able to have the game recognize a couple of "flags" from the CC and mention them at some point in the game. For example hair color, or whether or not you have a tattoo. Could be just a couple of minor references by other characters, but I think it would be a great way to make the player feel immersed in the world as that character.

I jsut would like to have a unique character each time I play and thats where customization helps. I play these games a lot and its tiring having so amny similar looking characters. While im at it they should bring back a device that lets us change our appearence whenever we want, kind of like the mirror in DA2 :)

You probably played a guy and I'm sure that's what you're talking about - but totally just for the record, the new female hairstyles were a vast improvement.  Posted Image

Except for the bangs - I'm still holding out hope that Bioware will learn how to make decent bangs.

Oh don't be so sure. Because it has every sign of jRPG so far.

As for customization, as we'll be having coived protagonist, I want to see sound filter slider, so you can adjust only voice you have, making it lowe-higher etc. That's the simpliest addition, already made in various games and will at least partly compensate voice of new protagonist, forced upon players.

While I too would like scar options, there were certainly options for a more weathered skin look to make your character look like he's lived a lot of life. You don't have  to choose the smooth and shiny complexion... >.>

To this point, I usually find a wall in a well-lighted area, stand a couple of feet away from it, and pivot the camera around to look at my character. The wall is presented as a physical barrier that forces the camera into my face, giving me a good look. Granted, that didn't really help in the mage tower with the ambient lighting, but in general it works.

I wouldn't mind a few new options - all my FemHawkes look the exact same save for a different hair colour or skin tone. My Wardens are a little more varied but that came with the help of a lot of mods and the aid of a toolset.

Some new sliders would be welcome, or just for the love of the Maker bring back the arrows on either side of the slider, I drove myself insane in DA2 without it. I was playing SR3 the other day and spent a good half hour making a character for all intents and purposes would just be hurling herself off really high buildings or out of a jet and couldn't stop thinking "Why isn't this degree of tinkering in Dragon Age?"

Can someone tell me if having so many options in a heavily story based game (for the CC) negatively impacts in it some way? I'm just curious because it does seem limited to me.

I'd like to have more than one choice of mouth, please. In DA:O especially I found myself shopping through the presets just for the prettiest pair of lips. In DAII I'm not sure it really made much of a difference, and you ran the risk of getting stuck with Leandra McUberBangs. :(

Saints Row 3 CC was awesome. Or Dark Souls', although its pretty tough to make a pretty face.

They definitely need to improve on the CC. Try adding adjustable lighting so we can see how the PC will look in various settings.

Also, include some ability customization in the CC again please.

My biggest problem with the Dragon Age II creator wasn't the hair, tattoos or colours available.

No, my biggest problem was the fact, regardless of what i did, my characters had play-dough jawlines and puffy pastry cheeks. It's like the entire face is made out of clay, and it shows.

The only thing that actually seems remotely realistic or life-like is the nose, and that happens to be the only thing you can fully customize to some semblance of normality.

Dragon Age Origins offered a great deal more realism to the creation of characters. It would be nice to see facial structures go back to the original format, because play-dough faces aren't okay. At least not in my opinion.

Personally I'm really hoping that they will bring in some more different complexions. I recently tried a mod for DA:O that added more options in this, and was amzed what a difference it does to the character. Freckles, wrinkles, and some actual detail to the skin, which has been sorely needed in all DA games so far (though it was a lot more apparent in DA2, when everyones skin looked like plastic, except for the deafult Hawke and the Arishok qunari.

I'd like to get rid of dark character creators with black shadowy backgrounds.

I can never get the skin shade right. I pick something that looks like a light tan and in a sunlit area my PC looks pasty white. The fact that the game usually starts in some dark/night area and it takes a lot of playtime to see your PC in daylight doesn't help either.

People who play on console would not be able to take advantage of the mods. Also, not everyone plays a serious character every time they play, so why not include some fun colors for hair. If you don't want it don't choose it, it's more about making more choices available for more people without making any drastic changes to the CC.

I'd rather focus on getting plenty of more normal options that actually look good than expanding the more wacky versions.  There are very few hair options that I'd consider using at the moment.

edit:  But if something is easy to include, like I guess weird hair colours might be, I wouldn't object.

I'd love to have the option to add facial piercings to our protagonist, body tattoos would also be cool but I'm guessing that could cause a problem during the "sexytime" cinematic scenes lol. I'd like to be able to tweak the facial features more too, so that we can create a greater number of diverse and unique looking protagonists.

The option to be test out facial expressions in character creator would be handy too, if not then the black emporium mirror would be incredibly helpful if our creation ends up looking a bit derpy in-game lol.

Different body types means clipping problems. Don't think it's going to happen.

True, it would be cool to see different body types on random NPC's though, like fat, super skinny, overly muscular etc just to switch things up a bit and make it a little more realistic.

Of armour and weapons? If implemented properly I doubt that would be the case since equipment had to be tailored to fit the figures of dwarves and elves in Origins (and, I imagine NPCs in DA II), so while it would be  extra work since BioWare's handled similar things before (on an outdated engine at that).

I think companion/love interest and object interaction would probably be the biggest clipping problem, that being said they managed it in DA:O.

Oddly enough Drakensang had different body types. No real clipping issues either. And you could also put all kinds of outfits on your companions as well. Odd that small companies can do that, but bigger ones can`t.
