In DA, theres quite a good handful of ways to play and build your characters. Some even avoid the usual roles that some classes provide and try and get something more out of that particular class.
For myself, theres nothing more fun seeing the screen shake when you slam your big fat axe in someone's face. What I also have liked about using two handers is that it gives a mix bag of tricks, making you filling in a support role and even sometimes tanking on a single target.
I'm thinking about making a tank on my next playthrough, looks like a lot of fun to be soaking up the damage so others won't have to.
How about you? What role(s) do you enjoy and why?
Whats your role and why?

I've always been partial to the rogue characters. Julane, my current character, is a stealth-backstabbing monster. Setting her up before the charge of my other party members in battle so she can take out that mage or archer who I know will annoy us to no end is great fun. She is a bit on the weak-side, often getting caught away from others (due to her sneaking about) and as a result has far more injuries than I expected she would at this point. But since she's always up-front and in the thick of things, it's no wonder she's always getting targeted. It's really no different than when I had Leliana as my rogue in my first game with my sword/shield warrior, Lyle, though.

i like all the classes so its kind of hard for me to just say i like this one above all the rest.
i could say playing a warrior as DPS doesnt really suit me so much, or a mage as pure dps either. to me a warrior should be a tank, a rogue should be dps, and a mage should be heals/control with some dps ability focused mainly on aoe.
i know you can play a warrior as dps, but it just doesnt seem very fitting to me. i know you can make a mage as pure dps, but again it just doesnt seem fitting to me.

Each time I replay the game I do it with a different approach. My first time was with a 2h warrior and it sure was fun. 2nd I tried a mage but only got 1/3 of the way through before stopping. This time I have a rouge and find the game nearly as fun as the first play through. But I always seem to find myself staying on the mage for a lot of combat even through I did not like being one so much as a main.
However I do agree there is nothing like that feeling of running right into the middle of things with a warrior and laying waste to the bad guys in real time!

I play a god -- watching over my mage avatar from "on high".
Like a god might, I will "change the rules" to benefit my "child" who I created. I.e. the god role actually justifies my occasional game hacks and cheats.
I'm serious.

i guess if i did have to pick one i would say rogue simply because it seems to have the most non-combat options. opening locks, disarming traps, stealing, stealthing around, and things like that. with a warrior or mage outside of combat they dont have much involvement in anything beyond just talking to people.

dps = damage per second (damage)
aoe = area of effect (hits an area like fireball)
aoe = area of effect (hits an area like fireball)
