I think that Gamespot to a deep look into how stuff was running in general, as well as took there time with this and that before entering any direct finals on there decission.. not a fanboy myself of bioware the company, but there games and support they grant.. and to be honest I did not expect DAO to win everything at gamespot.. it is still a MMO way of playing a singleplayer game with alot of limitations one way or another semi pound the enemy kind of thing.
I would have to say that Gamespot did see different technical problems and whatsoever that I did myself as it is while playing DA:O and still playing the game even though they are LATE on the DLCs and not really telling us what we can expect from those DLCs as it is.. would like something else than just new gear and running around in 3-4 different areas for 20 minutes.
Looking forward to a game like the new starcraft... the toolset they got there is so damn specific that you even can make first person shooter mods on something that would work as a RTS, the modding abilities with that toolset should be damn awesome maybe even making ones own RPG with it if any luck.

Not to mention DA is available on 3 platforms while Demon Souls is only on the PS3. I dont even own a ps3 and I can see where they're coming from. I dont think the makers of Demon Souls expected it to do so well...I remember reading about the issues that concerned the stock. Many people could not find copies of it simply because there weren't a lot to begin with.
I agree it is not as much about the masses voting depending on if it is a good game or not, proportions is in need to be taken care of as well, keep in mind that DA:O did not get PS3 game of the year, maybe for the reason of that the other game was better on the PS3 maybe, I do not know that myself... I only own one console in my house and that is an old NES in mint condition.

It doesn't matter to fans of Bioware if their newest game doesn't win the game of the year award or rpg of the year.
You can't always win and there's always something else that's interesting or fresh out there.I actually agree with nominating Demon's soul over Dragon age, since I don't think writing or dialogue are all that in a videogame.Demon's soul was a superb hack and slash, several time better than any Bethesda game when it come to the fighting engine or AI/animation.Add to this a typical touch of japanese artstyle for a weird and unique looking rpg(a dark and depressing looking rpg,far removed from the typical jrpg with vivid colors) which is refreshing after looking at generic and lifeless art from Bioware or Bethesda or most western rpg developer.
Bioware stand a better chance of winning rpg of the year in 2010 and Xbox 360 game as well with Mass effect 2.Final Fantasy XIII won't score that well giving the backlash from importers already.Unless Obsidian can steal the thunder away with Alpha protocol.

You are talking about Dryden, right? Um... If he wasn't there how would you do the quest?
I am mildly confused here.
I'm pretty sure they meant that if you don't own the content he solicits the DLC and tells you to bust out the credit card but I'm not sure of the specifics because I already had it when I started the game.

He's there even if you don't have the DLC. On the xbox, a purchase window actually opens if you talk to him...asking if you want to purchase the DLC. That's pretty much advertising.

Important thing, its what we think and not some websites. We all know that Dragon Age is one of the best RPGs and game.
Not us all... I for once still got Planescape Torment and the first NwN + expansions as my number ones... DA:O to me is just another game to pass time on untill the next EPIC RPG game comes out.
But that is just my personal opinion as it is, call me crazy or whatever... but I am more like ok... this is an OK game... beat it a couple of times... play some campaigns for then moving on.... usually ending with going back in time rather than playing current released games as it is.
If though that Bioware would like to add multiplayer options or the likes for the PC variant at least so that they work on the playermade campaigns in a way then maybe it would actually come more to life than what it already is... I am thinking of true RP worlds with alot of Hack and Slash + epic player made content as an option in which the toolset actually offer... voice overs or whatever is certainly not a must for me personally... I rather like gameplay an options to be honest, then the whole thing could just be text based as it is conversation wise.

Why's that? It's their opinion. Demon Souls is amazing and innovative and had almost zero advertising. Even Bioware's Co-founder is addicted to it. Dragon Age won best PC game, that's what it deserves, imo.

Weak year for games no doubt, I don't think DA:O should have gotten though. Great game, but nothing really stands out from it aside from the storytelling and the characters. Whatever, DA:O is a great game, got plenty of recognition and props from the gaming community and God knows how many awards. Spreading the love a bit is fine, especially to some of those small guys and underdogs. Demon's Soul is close enough to DA:O's level in terms of overall quality in my opinion that I won't fuss. A few of those other awards Gamespot game out however, that's a different story.

These votes are worthless. Far too small selection, and only from big name companies.

At least DAO won PC GOTY. Should easily have beaten a hack n slash, but whatever. If you compare what people voted for as compared to what Gamespot picked, you can see they are a little out of alignment with their readership (or at least with those who flocked to the site to vote.)
Only SFIV won where it should have elsewhere, everything else I looked at (granted, I didn't look at everything and many categories had things I just didn't have knowledge nor opinion on) the winners were odd choices.

honestly, Gamespot went down the drain for me when all the guys who are now at Giantbomb left (or got fired).
I look at the reader choice/opinions more than the editors, and DA is doing way better there.
Whatever, it's *MY* game of the year, and that's all that really matters.
