I've been a long time fan of Mass Effect and recently decoded to go out and get the first game on PC, problem is I am finding it extremely hard to enjoy myself because playing with a mouse and keyboard is extremely hard for me. I have a PS3 controller that I can plug into my laptop and I was wondering if theres any way to use it?

Thanks for your help in advance guys,

N7

You could try looking for a PS3 to USB adaptor on EBay, I know I got one for both PS2 and classic XBox controllers. You might need drivers though or maybe not, its a case of trying and see what happens. Or you could just pick up a standard controller pad for the PC, there are loads of them out there.

I use an Xbox controller for most of my PC games. Not to downgrade you for PS3 or anything, but some PC games have pre-programmed Xbox 360 controller support, not PS3 because Windows makes both systems. I've never used a PS3 controller, but you might have more problems trying to get the computer to recognize the input, even if you get a USB adapter. ME1 isn't programmed to accept controller commands, if my Xbox controller doesn't work, I think it's less likely the PS3 will.
You might also notice the layout is different. There might be freeware out there to mod ME1 to accept controllers, but all of it would be from a third party. There simply isn't enough buttons on the controller to cover all the abilities.
In short you could buy/download a 3rd party program to make it work. But it would take a lot of internet research, downloading insecure programs, and maybe require some coding yourself.
If you do figure it out though, let me know! I'd love to use the thumb stick in conversations. ^.^
