Dear all,

Busy with different subquests in BG-city, I found a new tome in the ThievesGuild.
The previous 3 tomes I stashed in my stashplace in Beregost, making it 4 at this time.

I was wondering :
Do you guys use the found tomes to upgrade a party-members who can use it best for their (ingame-) class, or do you use the tomes to upgrade your prime character ?

Ofcourse I know it's not very usefull to upgrade the wisdom from a mere 8 to 9 when my own-built-character is a thief. I hope to import my thief into BG-2, therefor have a more 'strong' or 'heavy' character to start with ...

thanks ! Posted Image

Wisdom does not add the saving throw bonuses that are advertised in the manual, so wisdom is really not very useful at all to your thief (outside of conversations, possibly, but those checks are very rare and increasingly so the more you advance in the story)

If I were you, I'd increase Jaheira's or Viconia's wisdom and employ Shadowkeeper or BGT to have the effects carry over to BG2.

Thanks Humanoid.

If I understand correctly; when starting BG-2, do/can I import my whole current party then ?

Only your main character. Some of the other npc's will be in BG2 too, but they'll have their original stats. Any tome you used on them will be wasted, unless you use the mod Baldur's Gate Trilogy (BGT). BGT will export Minsc, Jaheira, Viconia, Edwin and Imoen to BG2. If you changed their stats through tomes, they'll have their changed stats in BG2 too, provided they were in your party when you made the transition from BG1 to BG2.

The stats of their BG2 versions are usually better than their BG1 versions. The G3 Tweakpack has an option allowing you to choose which set of attributes to use for each of them for the sake of continuity. (of course, even without this, imported characters will keep their stats - that's the big advantage of BGT over Tutu)

provided they were in your party when you made the transition from BG1 to BG2.

Is that so? Interesting.

You can also give a point of Dex to Branwen so that she can dual to Thief or a point of Intel to Safana will allow her to dual to Mage... both of these are only good for BG1 however.

Neat little trick (read:exploit) for those who use BGT. Want to keep all your best items from BG1 (and trust me, you'll have some awesome items if you played mods like Drizzt's Saga, Dark Horizons and Dark Side of the Sword Coast)? Place them in a Bag of Holding and give the Bag to Imoen. She'll still have the Bag when she wakes you up in Irenicus' dungeon.

Yeah, i'm assuming everyone uses that component from G3 Tweaks. Which of course might not be true for players who are new to the game.

I play a BGT currently and there was something I didn't expect. I didn't dual Imoen to mage in BG1 and when I started BG2 in Irenicus dungeon, Imoen joined as a single class thief! Does it mean she will remain like that when I free her from Spellhold? I know they are different Imoens (Imoen and Imoen2 I think they are called), but I'd like to make sure, since that might somewhat screw up my party balance for Underdark.

With BGT (or the Imoen romance) installed, there are no two different Imoens.

H_T is correct. Imoen is a consistent character in BGT. The Imoen in Spellhold will be the same as the Imoen that gets captured by the Cowled Wizards on Waukeen's Promenade.

There are however mods that cause the experience of a character who joins or rejoins to be the same or similar to the primary character if that is what you want.

Thanks all for your replies !

As for my tomes-question, that one is answered.

Furthermore, just so you all know :
I play the original european version of BG-1 + Tales, so the 5 brown discs and one grey Swordcoast disc. I don't use any modds, add-ons, tweaks etcetc whatsoever.

Out of interest...

If Minsc gets flattened by a flesh golem... is he dead in BG2 too? (BGT)

On topic:
I use all the tomes on my protagonist because i am a selfish one.

If you have not raised them at a temple then yes. Any character from BG1 is unchanged in BG2 from their final state in your party (if you're using BGT).

Just realised if i kept Viconia instead of Branwen i could have given her the wisdom tome so she'd have 19 (just realised now i got her in BG2).

One of the things that I like about the game is that several years on I am still learning. Posted Image
