I walked into Denerim for the first time and Couldn't believe how Blah the Market Place was there was no Minstral Band there wasn't enough detail, it wasn't raining and everything looked pretty boring. There wasn't enough Folly sounds and Atmospheric sounds of people selling and what not, it just didn't seem alive.
Someone should mod up a Group of Minstrals that we can through in there, I"ll create some music to fit the period and Minstrals.
Because I really think that is lacking there for atmposphere.
I was just surprised that that would be so dull.
Being picky maybe but come on a Game that is in development for five years and there isn't even a musicians out playing in the market place, or people yelling to sell, or chickes runing around, or damn Baldur's Gate 2 had more going on even, it sounded Alive!
Shocked that's all.

Perhaps they ripped them out to sell them to us in DLC packs.

So basically you wanted a party in the street? Even though there was a blight on the way to crush the city into dust.
I believe the OP was looking more for signs that people are actually LIVING in the city, like people wandering around doing shopping, minstrels trying to cheer people up, other adventuring parties would be nice and some animals... Has anyone EVER seen a horse in this game?
Some signs of life would be nice in this game.

God I don't believe it! This game is winning all these awards and it doesn't even have half the atmosphere that "The Witcher" had.

If you took into account the story and all that was happening in Ferelden then the marketplace is spot on. It sounds like you want a different story/look to the game.

no that's not it at all. I think I am done here now. I think you need to think deeper before you reply. The whole game is missing the icing on the cake. I think it might be a game engine problem. Like a Cat get's Kicked through a window if you request this kind of thing.

It's certainly a VERY disturbing precendent for a games developer to release a game in what can only be described as an 'alpha' state with the idea of 'It doesn't matter because we can make a fortune selling the actual details to the game and most of the side-quests as DLC'.

Actually it's probably more disturbing that the game has been in development for 5 years and it still has some unpolished features. You can actually get an MMO to Gold in that amount of time and the scope of an MMO is vastly larger. However it's a pretty common trend these days to release a game unfinished and patch it up later. The corporate exec's are the ones making those decisions from a profit perspective and not a game perspective.

Say I make a painting of a woman. And then you tell me it's unfinished because she has a crooked nose and no visible cleavage.
I say I like crooked noses. You argue that I can't possibly like that and so naturally, I did it to ****** you off.
The logic sucks.

LOL its comments like this that really make me think that the story is far too deep and complex for the average gamer. The complexities within the stories is staggering. This isn't epic fantasy, its dark and gritty fantasy. Just because areas don't fit a stereotype doesn't mean its incomplete.

I'm sorry, I'm gonna have to jump in at this point. This is epic fantasy, the creators themselves have said it is, and it fits the criteria of epic fantasy alot more than dark fantasy, and there is no way in hell that DA:O is gritty, it's lower than most high fantasy but it is still not gritty.

Apparently our definition of the word "gritty" differs. There is no simple "good" and "bad." There is an enormous amount of "grey."
My use of the term "epic fantasy" was admittedly in error. It is epic in scale but not in terms of the bright shining hero vs. everything that is bad. In fact in many ways the good vs. evil concept is done away with. It doesn't mean those elements don't exist they just don't define the progression of the story the way they do in many others (ie. KotoR).
I do stand by my previous statement about people wanting to impose steroetypes into the story and environment.

I have to disagree. DA is like a painting. Just because there aren't things you personally like in the painting, doesn't mean it isn't as it was intended to be.

First I would silence that lady keep preaching about Maker this Maker that around the Chantry because it so repetitive, i had to turn down the sound and that hag is so loud it ruin that particular spot every time i ran pass there to do my quest.
So no further ado, i ask the dev to further test their DLC with hardcore RPGers first on area like the Market Place with lots of vibrant ambience setting : )

Definition of gritty:
Main Entry: grit·ty Pronunciation: \\ˈgri-tē\\Function: adjective Inflected Form(s): grit·ti·er; grit·ti·estDate: 1598 1 : containing or resembling grit
2 : courageously persistent : plucky <a gritty heroine>
3 : having strong qualities of tough uncompromising realism <a gritty novel>
When used for things like films and games point 3 is used, they mean that the overall feel is realistic as opposed to cinematic. This means that combat is realistic and instead of exploding cars as the hero leaps to safety while clutching a bullet wound he instead curls up and dies from an infection. While it is not over the top, the game is not gritty by a long mile, and in fact is one of the complaints many people are having that it is not gritty (not me, I like the level it's at, but I know it's still not gritty once you get past the Origins and into the epic fantasy storyline). Sure it's not all sunshine and rainbows, but while there's no morality bar there are some sadly very clear cut moral decisions you can make (you wanna be evil? Click here. Good? Click here). Love the game, but am very clear on what it is and what it isn't.
