So? That doesn't make my opinion here any less valid, I'm pointing out some problems.

The "problems" you speak of are completely irrelevant because you're comparing the USMC of today with a fictional armed force 200 years in the future that's also multilateral, with the largest 18 nations of Earth having had a hand in its creation of which Yankee-Doodle Eagleland is ONE.

Seriously, what's with you yanks throwing temper tantrums whenever military forces in fictional media - especially non-american, for some reason - doesn't perfectly mold themselves after your vaunted 1 trillion dollar boy scout association?

Hair and outfits.

They have to be appropriate for combat.

Miranda Lawson
Ashley Williams
Samara/Morinth

We need to talk about your outfits.

I can ignore the last two, since one is rebel operative and the other is an alien samurai. But they had Williams right the first time, and second...Mass Effect 3...

Meh, Sci-Fi has always had a certain air of fantasy about it.

Perhaps, but ME1 had a more strict military feel about it, which was part of its charm.

At the very least, Ashley's casual outfit is highly suspect. Kaidan gets a normal uniform, Ashley gets a PVC miniskirt and catsuit... :|

Yes we know Williams was barbified, but let's no go there. Her hair should be in a bun though, otherwise it's a hazard.

Pretty much this.  You don't exactly expect them to know everything military just like they don't expect you to know all the stuff in the video game such as coding or being an artist.  I expect them to know about as much as my specialization as I do theirs.

These are all little things really. Just kind of nitpicking I guess. For someone like me who is getting ready to ship out to boot camp in the coming months, it can be distracting and off-setting because I've spent all this time learning rank structures, general orders..etc. and other jargon. But I also I realize it's only annoying because I actually know these things. For someone who doesn't, it's a complete non-issue; such as the Cerberus dude saluting with his left hand. Only those who know otherwise take notice of it.

The only thing that I would suggest is game or immersion breaking is the inconsistencies in the ranks. For example, how the hell does Ashley go from Operations Chief all the way to an equal of Shepard? In 2 years between ME1 and ME2 she only got promoted once, but from ME2 to ME3 she's an officer and all, Lieutenant Commander...?! It just doesn't make sense. Or Shepard not being promoted at all?

The Williams thing is bull****, even decorated heroes in real life don't get bumped in rank THAT FAR.

Shepard however is dead. and alive.

Also good luck.

Your kidding this isn't real :D

Chris when ever you have a profession and its portrayed in any media be it movie or video game there is always people in that perfession that will point out what your doing wrong. When a game is knee deep in military tradtion or jargon this will happen.

Theres always that guy in the movie sitting there talking about how thats not the right way to load a 120mm howizer or you don't that blah blah =]

How Ashley went from an NCO to Lieutenant Commnder in 3 years is a mystery and Kaidan also rose too quickly, he even outranks Shepard. Joker also mistakenly says something about the Virmire Survivor "pulling a gun on a superior officer," yeah no, neither are his subordinates. Even Hackett's rank is messed up considering that in previous games he was Admiral of the 5th Fleet only, but suddenly in ME3 he's still just an Admiral, not Fleet Admiral, and in command of all the Alliance fleets.

I don't even even know where things like Yeoman, Specialist, or Flight Lieutenant fit.
[/quote]

BTW Yeoman =  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeoman_%28US_Navy%29

isn't the internet grand....

BTW Hackeett gets his promtion to fleet admiral pretty much after the Reapers attack, Considering what he says to Shep about having to sacerfice 1 fleet to save 2-3. So its pretty much a new spot for him... Its called feild promtions. There was a guy in korea who went from a priate in the army to Command sargent mjor in 1 day.

His base was over run and he was 1 out of 2 surving people from the base.

So I think with the Reaper invasion the fact that alot of ships where lost and what not, and the fact that it seems the admiralty board was wiped out, I think he got the postion by defualt. Also if anything, he is the only one who has the bright idea of builing the Dues ex machina as a last ditch effort.

He didn't say he doesn't appreciate those who risk their lives in combat. He just doesn't care. And to be fair, no one told you to become one, to risk your life.
