EDIT: grab a beverage and a muffin, you might be reading a while...if you bother.

F**k you, Square Enix, f**k you and everyone you love.

Seriously, I don't think Versus is a thing, and will befor a long time--if ever. It just sounded too ambitious.

"A Final Fantasy that plays like Kingdom Hearts" doesn't sound that ambitious. That's pretty much all we know about it.

Well according to the CEO of SE he was in a meeting for the game not too long ago. Like 2 weeks maybe. It's in development, but it's just going incredibly slow. They're gonna show it at TGS, so maybe we'll get a release date.

No but did you read very much about it? Turn-based battles that play like Advent Children, in addition to being three dimensional somehow, somehow access to that hundred or so weapons Noctis has in that one trailor, an open world you can drive around in that changes dynamically--I read something about a plane crash that happened on the fly, I think--that sounds incredibly ambitious.

Yeah I know, I'm the one that posted about that in the Final Fantasy Versus XIII Cancelled thread. I'm definitely hoping for at least a release date at TGS, some gameplay footage would be nice too but I won't hold my breath.

Oh, I forgot. You're also supposed to be able to throw your sword, and teleport to wherever you throw it. In battle.

That actually seems like it could be pulled off without being too complicated, especially since the battle system is real-time.

RTSs have histroically done extremely poorly on consoles, because they require a curser (is that spelled right?). Now imagine trying to move your curser with an analog stick, trying not to push the stick too far and overshoot...while you're in battle. The curser part is the difficult part.

It doesn't need to be cursor movement like that. I was think more along the lines of like a grenade. It could just have a trajectory you can manipulate with the analog sticks to place where exactly you would throw it.

But that would be even harder. This isn't an FPS after all, grenades would be very difficult to direct from a third person view. Imagine den defense, Assassin's Creed.

Den defense on a console, that is.

...yea, I have no idea what you're talking about.

...I haven't played all the way through. But I've played enough to get a feel for it. I plan to finish it, but it will take some time.

I was just highlighting the fact that I've spent more time playing FFVII than any human probably should.

To tell you all the truth, the worst FF game I've ever played is not any of the newer ones - it's FFVIII. That game was a pile of offal with one of the s***tiest battle systems in any game I've ever played. Square should be ashamed of themselves for having ever made it in the first place.

FFVIII is still better than FFXIII.

The battle system is actually kind of fun when you get used to it. Like using the Limit Break Lion Heart with aura and haste on Squall.;)

Since I typically never use spells anyway (the cost is rarely worth the damage in games where it doesn't auto-refill after battle, aside from when enemies are nigh invincible otherwise, or you need it for hitting groups) equipping magic in FF8 worked really well for me... I ended up just using items instead for healing and whatnot, which usually just rot in the inventory anyway.

It was a super customizable system and I loved the hell out of it. If you have a main team of 3 you can give them 3 or 4 summons apiece and it balances out pretty well. I kind of want to replay the game just for that part of it, that customization is great... (I made Zell into a lightning dealing/absorbing god... which made for interesting matches when he fought Raijin.) but I don't think I could suffer through the actual story and dungeons again.

Huh, I thought the most disliked FF was FFII. (as in not FFIV) It just gets eclipsed in attention by the newer games I guess. I've heard next to no praise for FFII, that's for sure. Hell, I don't like it myself.

Shhh! Don't say things like that out loud. If these people find out you hold an opinion that isn't popular among the masses, they'll demand that you justify your own preference to them, and then call your reasons into question!
