I hear ya.

I have nothing to say to you, I don't need to listen to anything that you say. I'm not disturbing anyone by not using a mic (instead, people with mic constantly disturb other players during game).

And it's nice when there's someone on mic that will warn you about something that you don't see, but that rarely happens for me.

I unfortunately don't have a mic yet, but if I did I would use it.

I know about you, you don't know about me. For all I know, you might be a drug lord.

What's wrong with drug lords?

It probably doesn't help that we talk in Afrikaans the whole time, only switching to English for warnings/thanks in game.

Now, however, it's a rare case to chat with randoms playing ME3. Either they're in a chat with others (the case for me at times), or they're simply not chatting period. If I see that mics are plugged in and it's not late at night, I'll normally make a quick comment like "anyone on game chat?". If I get a response, the mic stays plugged in. If not, I unplug and take the headset off.

However, I am always in an Xbox Live Party, talking with friends that may or may not be playing MP with me at the moment.
If I don't respond to you - It's not because I'm being rude. I can't hear you. =D

not sure anyone knows I actually work for BioWare though
Probably a good thing: in public games you'd likely be hassled worse than a hot-sounding woman...
Ahh the joys of playing online games

The other time where there was conversation was in a foreign language or some creep trying to sound like batman..

Voice chat alternatives work much better than the in-game and also allow you to keep talking when the game borks for reasons unknown, disconnects and the like. This of course actually works in dedicated gamer groups when it comes to ME3MP and much less so with random games.
But if you do play with friends a lot, try using alternatives to the in-game voice chat and hear the difference, then have fun while playing.

That made me laugh but as i play really late at night it's mostly silence and foreigners.

If no one else has a mic on in the lobby I'll just mute my own. I also tend to just go quite a bit, especially in rough spots. It would be nice to encounter more talking groups (I wish I could set the lobby to "mics only" or something to weed out those who don't even bother plugging in a mic.)

The fact that the game doesn't have text chat is still a complete joke.

I only works for max 50% of PC users. And even then the audio quality and mixing is so poor that it is nearly impossible to hear what others are saying. Thus no one speaks in PC random groups; there is just no point. With friends I use mumble.
You need to have at least 3 people in the group who don't have strict NAT or have turned UPNP on or forwarded UDP port 3659 manually to their PC and configured their firewall to accept incoming connections or you will have people who can't hear each other. Host will ALWAYS hear everybody but other peers may have problems hearing each other.

No I'm not muted, nor have I changed any settings. It simply doesn't work 50% of the time so I generally don't use it.
