First post here and yes I do use the mic on PC, mostly warnings on being flanked and some tactical suggestions. Sometimes the odd comment or when a player dies repeatedly I would let out a long drawn sigh over the mic as I revive them for the x time.

Most of the time I'm talking to myself but players tend to respond by action even if they don't talk back.

Yeah, I have a really talkative group of people I play with when I wanna just have fun with the game (And I mean, test crackhouse class/build combos and make fun of how they are actually working, despite us being awake at 4 am in the morning because we were too busy talking over a game. Then getting yelled at for yelling at 4 am at the morning.)

No, It is better to use an xbox party, if the friggin server goes down or a friend gets the vanguard glitch, they can leave and come back, it's a real PITA when this happens on gold during the final waves.

Only every once in a while do I find myself using it. Mostly when the team is hunkered down somewhere and I see a phantom or ravager coming up our flank.

Sometimes teams on gold choose some really stupid places to make a stand, like behind the crates in FBG - that is a real deathtrap. I often use the mic to give people a heads-up on what enemies are out there - on gold having situational awareness is crucial.

It's unreliable and would get in the way of teamspeak. Plus a lot of people I end up in matches with don't seem to speak english, so we'd just be making noise at each other with neither one any wiser to what's going on.

It seems like maybe only 1 in 10 games will I hear anyone say anything. But only once in all my games had anyone replied to them. It seems like no one is using it :(

Sure I used to but then
Teammate: Dude you sound like you've got clay-doh in your mouth

And then I
Me: ...... ok.

Now I
Me: ......

But sometimes
Me: PHANTOM behind
Me: HUNTER behind

Hoping it will get across that an indication of static-with-some-mumbles-in-it means there is danger lurking somewhere hahaha

First off, the OP made a post about communication and then never entered the conversation again. I find this amusing.

Secondly, in random Gold games I find that about 1/3 have some level of communication. If someone talks productively, I friend them or they friend me because I usually call out camping phantoms or such. I find people rarely talk in silver games, but that doesn't really matter.

I give tactical observations regularly. If anyone else has a mic I'll happily banter back and forth. It's pretty infrequent that I get that chance though.

Too bloody annoying to use. Prefer teamspeak for teammates, never PuG platinum so have not had cause to use it except for the occasional 'thanks' when getting revived.

PS3 seems to have quite a vocal community. It's not very often that I join a game where there's noone using mics.

The times that I've had voice on, all I hear is something that sounds either Portuguese or Arabic. c.c

If im in a lobby with people who dont like to talk ill use a krogan and on pizza waves ill pick it up and start to grunt and talk like a krogan into my microphone while headbutting them with the pizza on my back. people need to realize that this is a team game and teamwork is how you succeed. Ive made over 30 friends playing this game.

I bought a good headset but I never got a chance to use it. Massive tooth infection -> swollen and sore jaw -> no wearing headphones/headsets. Then the typhoon nerf put me off the game. Only major nerf I didn't understand the basis for at all, and it killed a character I was having tons of fun with, so I decided to take a vacation from MP. Currently replaying ME1. Such a classic. If/when I get back to ME3 MP, I'll try to use the headset. I tend to be shy with voice chat though for some reason though. :(
