Does anyone else miss the ME2 combat drones? The ones that made everything huddle around it so you could set up epic biotic or tech attacks?

Now the thing moves too much. Granted it now does alot more and s worth putting points into, but truthfully, I miss the distraction it provided rather then it's offensive capabilities.

Anyone else agree or am I alone?

I miss hearing "Go for the optics!"

The fact that the new one shoots rockets is cool though.

I miss the squad yelling things as they attacked period. Now it is as if they are mute.

I do loves me some rocket spamming though. Especially Tali's. With her passive upgrade increase, it is constantly shooting electricity and rockets. I love it.

I use it as an attack drone rather than a decoy.

For decoy, there is a power called.... Decoy.

Yeah that feature was pretty cool. I loved how in Mass Effect 2, the Combat drone could reduce all enemy AI to idiots. The drone in ME 2 did very little damage, but held enemy attention for very long time.

Now in Mass Effect 3, the drone does more damage but gathers less aggro.

I wasn't a big fan of Decoy. It only goes infront of you and not to the target like the combat drone in ME2 did.
Maybe I am just a fail at placing it.

Additional Squadmate powers in ME 3:

Combat Drone: Follows enemies and attacks them. Can shock them.

Sentry Turret: When thrown at choke points will deal decent damage. Softening foes up for your final blow.

Defence Drone: Your personal guardian. Can damage enemies that get close. Can paralyse near by foes.

Decoy: If you place it strategically (hard to do), enemies for a short time will be distracted even on highest difficulties. Emphasis on hard to do.

Sabotage: Can turn synthetic foes into allies. Great on geth, cerberus mechs and cerberus turrets. Also useful on organics. Sabotaging their weapons, weaking them against tech powers and doing minor damage. It is a swiss army knife of various effects.

Geth Turret: Bit like sentry turret. But larger, and can restore ally shields/barriers.

Dominate: Why did you get rid of this? Why? Organic foes will become allies. They got rid of this. WhyImage IPB?

The Combat Drone is so erratic now. It is a combination of the new game mechanics and enemy A.I. In Mass Effect 2, it was extremely effective at distracting, stunning, and staggering its target. Now it is a toss-up as to whether it will do any of those things, regardless of the evolutions you choose. I have seen it completely lock down Banshees and Brutes, but I have also seen them completely ignore it. I have seen the drone shock enemies, and i have also seen it stand around and do absolutely nothing. It's good at getting Guardians to turn around, but that is the only consistent thing I have seen it do; and a shredder/armor piercing mod or ammo power makes that pointless anyway.

Explosive Drone can detonate tech bursts, but using it to actually detonate tech bursts can be difficult, as you have to cast your Sabotage/Overload (or whatever) and hope you did not cast it too soon or too late. And the Rockets evolution can cause the Drone to try to shoot through walls which makes that evolution erratic as well.

For all the "improvements" it supposedly has, the Drone is a much-worse power than it was in Mass Effect 2. You can talk about how Singularity was nerfed/redundant all you want, but the Combat Drone is practically irrelevant now. It has some use in multiplayer, but no use in single player.

I missed how every classes' signature power was arguably the most powerful power of their power loadout(excluding bonus powers). On the other hand, I'm glad that some of the signature powers are now more balanced with the other powers, to allow more diverse builds. But Combat Drone and Singularity got hit pretty hard.

OP, don't spec in rockets and it will decoy/tank. Rocket evolution messes up the AI so it will try to build distance and hide behind cover.

Spec it in Explosion too, so it can detonate your tech burst.

ME3 Drone >>>>>>> ME2 Drone.

I prefer rockets because I want my drone to do more damage. In addition I use my turret at choke points.

Here is what happens.

The enemy loses hitpoints when trying to get past my sentry turret.
It loses more hitpoints when getting attacked by my combat drone and my squad.
Then I finish it off with my tech powers and guns.

I got through insanity with this strategy. What did I use as a decoy? I didn't. I didn't use decoys. I wanted to destroy the enemies quickly.

I never played an Engie, so I for one am glad for the ME3 combat drone on Tali not taking Freaking 30 seconds to cool down.

For a super fun engineer strat -- ignore the turret/drones/distractions completely.

Go for sabotage +100% tech damage, incinerate w/ max damage possible and BAM! Banshees/brutes go down quick.

I kinda miss having squadmate barks for powers usage in general.  Vega could have had awesome ones.

What I miss was simply the colour of the drones. Tali's was pink, Shep's was orange and Legions was blue ( I think). Now all you see is two orange holograms. I WANT THE COLOUR BACK!!!

How about you get to choose the colours of your and your squadmates:
Biotics
Omni-tools
Tech Armour
and Combat Drones

I did that my first engi playthrough, the flamer turret is alright but the rocket drone didn't doesn't do enough damage and would waaay to often end up running behind a wall and firing at the wall. It was much better my second playthough with a explosive aoe lightning drone. Damage is terrible but it could group up swarms of enemies and stun them with explosion/lightning. Power stacked rocket turret is great but you need to make sure it has enough distance from the enemies to fire rockets.

I miss a lot of things from ME2. I am on a bit of a break right now, but I might end up just going back to ME2 when I get some time.

Yea, for those rare occasions when I brought em together, having Legion + Tali + EngineerShep drop 3 drones instantly and watching it get chain-stunned/shocked to death was hilarious

As for the drone AI, I've found that on MP at least if my Engineer is specced into Rocket Drone the best place for it is usually right by my side:

1) I can keep an eye on it; if it gets destroyed I know right away
2) It's not smack dab in the middle of enemies so it doesn't waste time trying to get distance from a target before shooting

Same, I feel like jumping into ME2 after discussing about things that we miss. Back to the good old days of Shotgun Engineer. Will probably finish by the time the new Leviathan DLC comes out.
