So I'm at the part near the beginning of the game, after you've gone on the first mission for the Illusive Man, and you meet up with Joker and see the new Normandy. You talk a bit to your team and meet the ship's AI, then you are introduced to all of the different stations by these cutaway shots that have text explaining what they do.

Well, after it shows the Tech Lab (I assume the last one it shows), the game screen fades to black and then doesn't come back. I can hear background noise, like the crew white noise track playing still, but there is no responsive noise to keyboard commands of any sort. I've tried leaving it for 3 or 4 minutes with no luck. If I check my processes windows, my CPU usage is through the roof, between 95 and 99%. I don't get that high even on high fidelity games.

The only thing I've really tried so far is to change my desktop resolution to the max that the game lets me go. I've also tried updating my drivers. No dice.

I'll post my configuration and hope it sheds some light. It is interesting to note that while the Configuration Utility can detect my display adapter, it cannot detect my Video RAM (it says I have -2147483648 bytes), and it leaves a blank for my video driver.

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5 CPU         750  @ 2.67GHz
Clock Speed: 2656 MHz
Physical Memory: 7.99 GB
Display Adapter: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
VRAM: -2147483648 bytes
Driver Version: [blank]

Sound Adapter: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device)
Driver Version: 6.1.7601.17514

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

Oh, I have also tried setting my processor Affinity to only use Core 0 for the game, but that didn't work either.

If a crash always occurs at the same spot, it likely means your installation is corrupt and you need to reinstall.

I tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling, and to my surprise..

IT WORKED!

Thanks very much, Fredvdp! I got past that part and the game doesn't seem to be giving me any more problems. Hopefully it won't raise any more issues. Thanks again!

This is an odd side question. There shouldn't be any difference, because my save files remained intact throughout uninstalling and reinstalling, but is there a way to be sure that my choices are still being imported from my Mass Effect 1 save? Is there anything I can check in-game to make sure of that? Thanks!

Not in-game, but there's an application called Gibbed's Save Editor where you can look at plot flags from ME1 and ME2.
